Message: Ah, Neville Brand - most probably don't know the name but if you've watched any old movies you'd recognize the face. Quite often playing a villian, Neville Brand was always one of my favorites and when George mentioned his name, a picture of Neville brand wearing a black shirt, a lock of hair hanging down a little in the front, and an evil smile came immediately to mind. Wow, a Cougartown memory jogger early on a Monday morning!

Message: Hey, JB, guys & gals; In his day, John Wayne, "was the man" in Cowboy Westerns and/or any war movie he played in, hands down, PILGRIMS. Nevil Brand & Audie Murphy were second. Those of you that don't recognize the name Nevil Brand, he was the 2nd most decorated veteran of WWII, behind Audie Murphy. Jorge

Happiest 50th Anniversary to the darling couple - Jake and Jude! I have so enjoyed the sweetness of your love affair and you inspire me. I wish you many, happy, more! And a special nod to Michael Angle today for his birthday. Our connection is his younger brother John, and the exchange Mike and I shared some years ago about John's passing. He'll never know how he changed me with that sharing. I wish you happiness and a great birthday weekend!!
Sue, Did you just invite yourself to the inner city? That's like walking, uninvited, into the land of Oz, isn't it?

Message: I never heard of A or Z periods. In the 50's we had 8 periods each day. 1st period started at 8 am, 8th period got out at 4 pm. We had 5 or 6 classes per day. Periods 4 & 5 were lunch periods with 1/2 the school at lunch 4th period and the other 1/2 5th period. It was nice having a whole hour for lunch.

Message: Hey John, it must be said at the top that I LOOOVVVE YOOOUUU MAAAAANNNNN and of course I'm going to spread that love around a little bit because there are simply too many people to love. I wanted to let you know that I had a massive COUGAR SIGHTING ten days ago. This one was arranged, as I actually coerced someone from greater Hawthorne aka the South Bay to come up to the Inner City and have lunch. Clark Millman not only arrived dutifully for pizza at Masa but also bent my ear about so many Cougs (and even many of their old vehicles of sturdy Detroit iron) that it almost made me regret misplacing my yearbooks all those years ago! Never let it be omitted from the record that Millman still holds the HHS record in the pole vault to add to his gridiron heroic moments--there aren't many HHS track records from our Neo-Jurassic Era still standing but his vault is one of them. I do believe I owe Millman lunch (but I owe everybody lunch) and I am eager to do it again, and maybe someone will even give me the hepatitis shot so I can clear the checkpoints and come down to the South Bay to do it! Susie Sun King is correct, I do regret not translating that Latin phrase before anyone else, but I just didn't see it in time! But I'll be reading in Double Jeopardy, when the answers double and the scores can really change. Peace and boat drinks, Joseph
Hey joseph, Great inner-city get together with Clark. He's our resident Cougar-sighter. It's unfathomable that he didn't pick off 3 or 4 Cougars while you two were schlepping pizza. Thanks for the shout and if ever I get my wine and cocoa vaccination I'll bring the Ghirardellis and Porto, a wonderful after-pizza experience.
I LOVE YOU TOO MAAAANN!!

Message: Hey, Richard; Almost all of my classes were "Z" periods, because I slept through most of them. I have to admit, I was stupid for not applying myself and getting better grades, looking back in retrospect, however, I was very lucky at the same time. The instructors just kept passing on up to the next grade level to get rid of me. Some of what they were teaching must have stuck though, because I always squeaked out a passing grade, must have been one heck of a bell curve they used back then. Jorge

Message: Hey, John Boy; I just noticed the thingy up in the top L/H corner of your page about dues. Your check is in the mail my friend and thanks for letting an old guy post some humor once in awhile. I hope that what I perceive as funny is not taken in the wrong context. However, I also know you couldn't make some folks smile or laugh if you tickled their feet, they are to worried about being P/C, unfortunately, I am not. Jorge
We noticed George, thanks very much for the dues, man.

Message: I am pretty sure that in my 4 years at HHS--graduating in'65--that 1st period started at 8:20, and 2nd period started at 9:20. If you were a jock, you had 7th period PE, so that meant your 6-period day started at 9:20. Oh, that was sweet. My first teaching job was as a long-term sub at Dorsey High School in South Central in 1974. After I accepted the job, my principal told me that school started at 8 AM. I was blown away. I had no idea that high schools started that early. Now, in the twilight of my teaching career, school starts at 7:30 almost everywhere. Maybe we would have fewer tardies if we started at 8:20 instead.

Message: My #1 Grandson graduated from Rio Americano HS (Sacramento) last Thursday. They had about 360 students going across stage to graduate....Does anyone know how many of us graduated in 1961? Also, I like their "sober grad night" program... Didn't a bunch of us go to the Palladium for our grad night? See, if we had sober grad night I might be able to remember... or is it just old age...??
Mike, between the Alumni List, the Tributes Page, and the Missing List, the class of 61 shows 434 people. The Palladium party. . . WHATTAGAS!!
