Message: I, on the other hand, had a REAL Cougar sighting. And so did Dick Dixon. I saw Dick at the huge car show in LaVerne and hailed him. We talked for a few minutes, and went our ways. Neither of us had a car in the show. Hundreds of cars but only two Studebakers: a really customized Fifties Hawk and a '59 Lark 2-door--almost identical to the one I had in high school, except for the beautiful paint and the small block Chevy. Can't wait to get my '41 Stude going.
Hey Ron, 41 Studebaker: Ed Lenarth had a 41 Stude sedan back in the early 60s with, as I recall, an Olds with about 8 2 barrels. What a ride.
Dick Dixon stood me up for breakfast last Tuesday. I'm not talking to him

Message: For all you Cougars who attended York School in the 60s I had a good sighting today although not a Cougar sighting. I was in Torrance so I thought I'd stop and say hi to our old principal Ken Blake. I caught him at home and wanted to invite him to our next cruise night as he still has the white MG he used to drive to school in the 60s. Mrs. Blake was very gracious and let me have a talk with him but sadly he is besieged with Ahltzeimers and his eyesight is failing. He does indeed still have the white MG but is not up to joining us at cruise night. It was well worth the effort though! Happy Easter to all Cougars wherever you may be!
Hey Clark, Thanks for the update and Happy Easter.

Message: Hi Gang! I,ve been hard down for awhile with some serious lung problems. I,ve been trying to catch up here on CT. I'm on the mend for now. Just want to say hope ya all have a good Easter! Been thinking about Easter and the easter egg hunts we had in our large backyard..... Because i was the youngest in the family .... my brother and sister were basicly in charge of hiding the eggs.... Which meant it was very challeging to find them .... And that meant some wouldn't be found until around June / July or longer . And as some may remember , They were beyond edible .(rotten) Sooo If you were the recipiant of a rotten egg thrown at your car @ 4623 120th,st,.. SORRY.. And JB Im going to be going thru a lot of stuff my Mom had left me . She was very involved in the Hawthorne womens club and Hawthorne garden club for many years. Their may be some useful historical items for the new Hawthorne Historical group your putting together! While i was in the hospital i met a dude from P.V., class of 69 ..It's not a Cougar sighting but we shared a lot of memories of south bay! Sorry i missed the cruise night , i wanted to suprise ya all. with my 64 CJ 5 Jeep. But i was just too hard down . Again have a happy Easter! Jim
Hi Jim, Happy Easter to you and yours. Yes I'm sure your mom's things will be of interest to the Hawthorne Historical Society. Many people have old memorabilia from Hawthorne's past and just don't know what to do with it. Please consider contacting the Hawthorne Historical Society in this respect. Thanks Jim for the note and hope you're feeling better. See you at the next Cruise Night in August.

Message: All Cougar Alum, As you probably know, state funding for our school's athletic programs is just not there and the HHS Football program needs our help.
Football is on a comeback trail at HHS with our new coach, Joe Kanach. Football instills school pride and spirit that sets the tone for the whole school year. Joe is a hell of a coach, but needs some support that is not coming from the state of CA. Please read Joe's letter to our Cougartown Alumni. We've stepped up in the past for the renovation of Nyman Hall, Beach Boys Monument, etc. I'm sure, with your help, we can raise the ante for HHS Football too. This is grass roots at it's best, Cougars. Let's all do what we can, like we have in the past, and make Hawthorne High Football what it used to be. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave your feedback here or email Coach Joe at Kanachj@centinela.k12.ca.us
Thanks very much Cougs for all your support, now, and in the past.

Message: I was sorry to hear about the passing of Mrs. Lafferty. She was my 4th grade teacher at Jose Sepulveda. We had just moved from LA and she was my first teacher in Hawthorne. Her classes were great. Our field trips included the ferry from San Pedro to Terminal Island, going to the harbor, the train depot in LA (oh boy we met Debbie Reynolds dad who worked on the locomotives - he handed out pictures of his daughter) and other trips. Hers was one of the few classes I truly enjoyed. She made learning fun. My thoughts are with her family.

Message: Many of you may have read this over the weekend but I feel it needs mentioning here on Cougartown as well. Edna Margaret Lafferty (1919-2011) passed away last Thursday at the age of 92. I always just knew her as Mrs. Lafferty. My brother John and her second son Tim - both from the class of 1970 are best friends still to this day. While I never had Mrs. Lafferty as a teacher - I know many of you did. In my memories of her - she was always a lady.
Thanks Anita, I'm sure many of our Cougars remember her.

Message: Hey John let me say once again that I LOOOVVVVE YOU MAAAANNNN and also me to profess my love of some others too right now. If you want to talk Cougar sightings, I had them in bushels yesterday--Sharon and Susan, Jill Mac, Sandy Bell--all part of the fun loving but a bit dangerous-to-know diaspora KONNIE KRISLOCK turned loose on the greater world! The occasion was the National Scholastic Press Association's annual conference held this weekend in Anaheim and top executive Krislock is still running everything within the thirty-mile zone of scholastic journalism but also finds a way to make time for all of us keepers of the flame too! Local notables Steve Lopez and Ling sisters Lisa and Laura absolutely rocked the house of thousands of young scribes from around the country. If anyone ever frets for the future of journalism, all I ever have to say about that is don't bother worrying too much, because Konnie's kids, now spanning four decades and numbering in the thousands, will take care of it all. A rare pleasure to be a part of such a promising, upbeat and optimistic weekend and also to see more Cougs than ever involved with the big conference!
Hey joseph, Konnie ROCKS!! I LOVE YOU TOO MAAAANN

Message: Hey Jim Sloey: You must have gotten an A in a creative writing course at HHS! Just got up to date with feedback and got a good laugh from your fiction about me at the Cheesecake factory! That'll be the day I have to bribe folks to identify themselves as Cougars! I just developed a good "gift of gab in high school and I'm good at starting casual conversation. Do I sense a little bit of envy because I turn up so many sightings!? I just think it's a good idea to let as many folks as possible know about Cougartown and enjoy it's benefits like I do! The more the merrier, I'm sure our Kahuna JB will agree!
You go Clark!!
