Message: Hello all! Well, I have to admit I'd forgotten how Thorne-ians react to weather forcasts. After all, I've lived in the Tahoe-Truckee area since the late 1980's. So, when I had the chance to leave late Friday afternoon for the drive down to Cruise Night, I went for it. Interstate 80 had been closed for a good 24 hours due to heavy snow and whiteout conditions - been a reported 700 inches of snow over Donner Pass this winter, and God knows how many feet this past week alone. The forecast here was for another wallop of snow Friday night. The National Weather Service earlier in the day was forecasting a 20% chance of rain for Hawthorne Saturday. I was able to drive as far as Lone Pine for the night. Saturday, drove about as far as Mojave before I realized I had a message from my loved one at home, telling me the Cruise was postponed. What I'll do next time is not chance the 8 hour drive (in good weather) if there's ANY chance of weather down there. Guess I'm not a flatlander anymore. Oh, and by the way, Norm Steiner drove all the way from Bend, OR. We were looking forward to being together again in Hawthorne, just like the old days. Thankfully, he had other family business in the area, so it wasn't a bust.
Hey Bill, sorry we missed you as we had .0000000482 inches of rain on Saturday and you know how we Haytowners hate bad weather Maybe we'll see you for the August Cruise if it's not over 75 degrees.

Message: Cougar Sighting...I spotted a familiar looking fellow at a west Torrance dinner party last night. As I racked my brain trying to remember where I knew him from, he was likewise trying to figure out who I was. It turned out to be Larry Robertson from the great class of 1969. We enjoyed a memory-filled visit with Larry and his wife Barbara. It was fun swapping stories and catching up on the 40-plus years since we last saw each other. He told a great Wayne Dickey story about an event that took place at the intersection of Century and Prairieā€¦. Larry looks good, still has most of his hair, and is planning retirement in Arizona in the not too distant future.
Hey Carl Thanks very much for a great Cougar Sighting.

Dress in layers, it still gets cold and pants would be good. I showed up in my mansion costume so don't worry about dress, there's one in every crowd. Enjoy your day! Cathie

Message: Catherine! You did bring up a memory from my sketchy past. Life was experimentive in the 70's. I met this girl and as the night wore on, clothes came off and low and behold, there they were, edible underwear. Staring me right in the face. I had only heard of them, but never had I witnessed them in person. What was I to do? Well they tasted good (cherry) I think. I will leave the the details to all of your imaginations. Well the next morning, as I awoke to a grumbling in my stomach. I spent the next few hours worshiping the porcelain statue. It took a long time for me to devour edible underwear again. I think it is an acquired taste!
Isn't this a family website? I apologize for Wayne, Mom. See you and Donna next Saturday buddy.

Message: Just want to let you all know that Hawthorne now has it's own Historical Society. A group of us older Haytowners got together a few months ago, wanting a place to preserve and conserve Hawthorne History. Well after a few meetings we've finally elected some Officers and are on our way. If you'd like to learn more about the Historical Society, please go here. It's a brand new website, going online last night, so Google and the rest of the search engines haven't even had time to find it yet. If you'd like to help out by joining and/or volunteering your services we would be ever so grateful as like any new entity, help and funding are critical. Thanks Cougs for listening. We are very confident that we'll have the physical museum up and running by mid-summer.

Message: Thanks Judy! For those of you who can't find a stamp and envelope or who will be at Foster's anyway, bring your donation (I'll have envelopes on hand to seal them in) and Jan and Judy are coming too so we can turn over any donations right then and there. Remember, and I sincerely mean this, NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL. I figure if we can cough up some $$ for the Beach Boys, we can surely kick in a few bucks for our Veteran heroes. Thank you all in advance. See you Saturday night - bring your smiles and your Hawthorne stories!! George Key, are you coming by? Patty V???
