Message: John, thanks for taking the picture of what the intersection looks like now. When I come down for the '64 reunion in May, I will be around a few extra days, so I'll take a little spin around the area. I haven't been there for quite a few years now and it will be fun. By the way, does anyone remember the eye doc, Dr. Dale Freeberg? My mom went to school with him and he called her a couple of years ago and they had a nice stroll down memory lane.

Message: Hey John, what a great picture of yesteryear Hawthorne. I can't say for sure when the steetcars left; however it would have to have been in the late 1955 early 1956 time frame. That looks like about a 1955 Buick parked northbound on the boulevard, and when my family moved back to Hawthorne in the fall of 1956, the streetcars were gone.

Message: Wow, John, what a great picture! You said it, this is Hawthorne in our youth. Chaneys, Dexters and the Safeway down the street. Great stuff. And Paco, it's not too late. You can still give your grandchildren the experience of riding a trolly car...or a steam engine pulled train. The Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, CA still runs much of that equipment. Check them out on line. I've taken my grandchildren (and my children of course) and it's truly a walk through the past. I never get tired of seeing those pictures! Tom

Message: Ya gotta love those street cars. Of course Broadway was the south end of the tracks and I used to ask the driver if I could flip the seats the other direction while he moved his money box and three legged stool to the other end of the car. He also had to pull down the electrical conductor from one end and put the other end up. Great fun on a Saturday to go all the way to the other end of the tracks at Eagle Rock for a quarter.

Message: Happy Birthday Sue Smith! I was just looking at a picture of a big dinner at the White's home about 1960ish, which included you, me, Bryan White, Alfred White, and a lot of other friends and family. You were always beautiful! Also, we moved to Hawthorne in 57-58 and I don't remember the street cars themselves, I think they must have been already gone. Lastly, RIP Keith, you were way too young but who are we to question. Wish I had met you at some point, but enjoyed your great stories.

Message: I LOVED taking the streetcar. My sister and friends liked taking it to downtown Inglewood to go shopping. For me, it was the shoe stores. Can't get enough of them there shoes and they had the best stores for that - and anything else, for that matter. For years I would have dreams about getting on the streetcar and going shopping. Thanks for the picture - great memory for me. And, for having Chaney's in the background. A really nice shot.

I'm always telling the grandkids stories of taking the street car to Ram games, gramma's house or downtown shopping, but I don't think they've ever even seen one, now they have!! When I think of the "Good Ol' Days", this is the picture I see!! Thanks again!

Message: I was shocked to read of the passing of Keith Jones a fellow “Bicentennial ‘76” graduate. I had not spoken to him since high school until last year through a lot of e-mails. He told me that he had lost his way and had some problems and that he was focusing on getting his life and body back in shape in 2010 / 2011, even if not for himself, but for his kids and grandkids which he loved very much. My condolences go out to them in their time of loss. Also, in speaking with Pam Wyatt Hintze, she has asked me to send her condolences to his family.

There's not much more one can say, that has not already been said I just hope he realized how many friends he had and obviously touched here. I had fun playing verbal judo with him once and while, you could tell he was on his game, he was witty and shot right back, anyhow, RIP my computer friend from C-town. Jorge

I can't speak as though your not here do to the truth that it's incredibly hard to imagine your enormously huge and encouraging personality being removed from our presence so inexcusibly soon and denying more of the world an opportunity to embrace the priceless qualities demonstrated by such a gentle giant of a man. all the love and attention displayed at this time reflects the magnificently positive investment your life has had on those fortunate enough to have known you. thank you Keith for your generosity of spirit and memories for many that will never fade.

Message: RE: Keith (Kika) Jones...This one was tough to read. Unfortunately it's a constant, lurking possibility that "checking in" may result in discovering such sad news. Keith indeed was a special star to all who frequent CT. Many words would describe his story-telling delivery style and some would go as far as to call him on it. But his response was always so candid, sometimes defensive but never with a vicious intent. What a sweet, solid human being he was! Never having a chance to meet him I did engage him by phone prior to moving to Maui. Of course he was helpful, kind and informative regarding the island and what to expect...and avoid! Probably the closest identity I ever had with him was in Sept. when Dennis Campbell informed me of Keith's survival of a past encounter with some kind of strange jungle-rot on his leg a few years back. This, when "I was still not yet out of the woods" doing the Hula with a case of necrotising fasciitis that granted me a month's "resident status" at Maui Memorial. Yes, even in his absense I personally sensed an auspicious inspiration from the Big Guy who surely fought countless, difficult times in his climb to his level of success while still maintaining a warm smile and a true, lovable demeanor through it all. By reading the comments it is clear that many were intimately fond of this gentle giant...a very big man with an even bigger heart. Rest well my friend. You were loved much on both sides of your life. You're now really back in Paradise...it's up to us to join you there! God Bless and Mahalo. Jim

Message: I do not know where to start. Keith was not just a friend to me he was part of my family. I have so many memories of Keith. Between John Hastins and myself we could do a movie. Keith nicked named me Skron Don because I was so Skinny back in high school. We use to cruise his old Mustang listening to the Big Bopper Chantelley Lace. He knew every word to that song to the note and would sing it out loud for everyone to hear. Keith you will be missed. Love you Bro.
