The "OH, OH" should of been a clue..however, you don't know me, & I don't know you...but I think you have changed a bit from your 'Mellow'days of youth, just my opinion of course. Whenever someone ends a sentence with: LOL,it's a laugh/joke. Administrations are not always FOR THE PEOPLE, If u know what I mean. Of course work w/them, like Sue said, I'm all for that. It sometimes doesn't work though..(the banks for 1)need I go on? We are in the land of the free..it's our right to peacefully protest when it's called for. Otherwise, its Russia/Cuba/Middle East. People without a say in things. Get it? LMAOROTF on these debates on the color of a robe....Really?!? :)

Message: To all that attended the HHS Class of 60-61 reunion: First of all , I thank my good friends, Rich and Mary Sloan (and others that worked so hard) to put this wonderful event together. Also, to my joined at the hip buddy, John Baker and Cougartown. Without these people we wouldn't have experienced this once in a lifetime blessing. Second, to all that I had conversations with, old friends, some of whom I have known for 60 years, it is my pleasure and honor to know you. And to all that I didn't get a chance to talk to, I'm sorry, it was unintentional. Finally, a special thanks to the faculty, most of whom I know personally, God bless you all, I love you. We are Cougars!

Message: First, Thank you Sue for the birthday wish...I had a ball this weekend. Friday night, several of us went to see Chris Montez at El Camino College. He put on the best show, and darn he looks soooo good. You would never know he graduated in 1960. Saturday night, John, Marsha and me (and several other younger HHS grads) went to the class of 1960-61 reunion. We had an absolute blast. I talked my sister (from 1960) into coming and she enjoyed herself so much, she was so glad she went. I want to give a BIG thanks to Rich and Mary Sloan for all the hard work they did to get this together. It was so much fun helping check people in!!!! Many, many thanks!

Message: Dawn I'll bet the robe color change is due to a discount or kickback of some sort on the ugly gold color. Bet the gown company couldn't offload them to anyone else. That would explain why the admin refuses to talk about it. Might be there's a big scandal brewing in Simi Valley. As to teaching your own kid, well, I home schooled mine. It didn't seem to damage him any, but I will admit I lost a few marbles myself. I LOVE Enza's idea and I hope a bunch of kids do just that, but gotta keep it hush hush - maybe just make a bunch of robes and give them to the girls at the very last minute. BTW Cougar sighting a few weeks ago, saw Joaquin Hernandez '76 while helping niece Lori move. He looks exactly the same and I was very proud of myself for remembering his name! I didn't know he was gonna be there and vice versa so it was a TOTALLY fair sighting, even tho other Cougs there could've claimed it no one did, so I call dibs!

Message: In response to Dawn's post re graduation garb. Waiting until the decision has been made is usually not the best time to react. Change takes time and work and if the effort is put forth change can be accomplished. When I attended HHS there was a code that the females had to wear dresses except in inclement weather. It took a lot of work and time but through the efforts of students working within the rules we got the dress code changed. I suggest that your daughter become active in student government and start working to change the selection process. She may not be able to change things before she leaves but she can start something and leave a positive mark behind. My short experience in HHS ASB taught me it is easy to complain and criticize but takes work to offer a solution and effort to implement it.

Message: I have not in the least been intrigued by this scarlet and white or green and gold robes issue that was thrust upon us by Dawn Moffett. In fact I was hoping this boring thread would dry up [no offense Dawn] but then but then but then Dawn makes a statement regarding a streaker on campus and I am appalled such a thing would occur at an institutional learning center in the state of California. So as an unbias citizen of the state I would be willing to form a committee of Cougartown alumni to look at, I mean into, the streaker allegations. We may or may not discuss the robe issue too, whatever. Any volunteers? I plan to be or not to be on campus next week to meet with the principal and strategically set up look outs around the campus. I need help, we Cougars can get to the bottom of this. Jorge you may wish to volunteer...

Message: Thanks Sue! That's exactly how I feel about it. I am trying to be a supportive mom and not rock my job. I actually did write to Konnie Krislock to see if she remembered hearing why they changed to one color with the class of '78 but since she left the year before she didn't remember hearing anything about it. I know that change is difficult in most forms but when you can't get answers as to why the change is being made that makes it worse - along with the fact that the gold color is not at all a nice gold color. I told her I'd bring one of the 6 green robes we have from her siblings and she can change for pictures. Too bad that won't help the rest of the females in the class of 2011. I think they are looking for the gold and green pattern but that's not going to work either because there are more females than males. I'm sure the students are going to make their voices heard. Maybe the girl streaker (yes we had a female streaker!) we had on campus yesterday was a protest? Probably not but our seniors this year are really into the pranks to be sure! They are very spirited!

But that does not mean we just agree with whatever comes along. Like John said, "basic black" was the original color. The only thing I left out of my post yesterday was this: Thanks, Jorge, for keeping us safe all those years as a "cop". Good on ya!

Message: First, Happy Birthday Momo!! Wow - and it's a Friday night! Get out there and howl and whoop it up! And neither George nor Dawn are out of line. Both just commenting on an issue related to high schools. (A proper forum I believe.) I recall the things that were sooooo important to me in high school. I admire that the kids will fight for it. This IS the arena where they learn about those things. Dawn lives and teaches in the community where I now work and I can tell you that they are good kids and it's a good place to grow up. I am sorry that the admin is not addressing the issue. Perhaps the lesson the kids will have with this is that not all decisions or decision makers are perfect and maybe even persistence pays off....they need to band together and hone carefully their negotiation skills. It can be done. And George isn't a bad guy - just trying to put some perspective. When they get to our age they likely won't even remember the fight. Unless, of course, Konnie Krislock was leading the crusade..... ; )) XO to all.

Message: OH,OH,I have a GREAT idea. Those robes are just a piece of cheap satin w/a zipper up the front,right..tacky in their own right,no matter what color they are. And, I remember having a a 'joint' being passed up & down our row, along w/a bottle of champagne, courtesy of J. Lococo. 'Streakers' were also present in the early 70's..so let your freak flag fly! All you have to do is make a robe of whatever color you want. And, as everyone is sitting down..take off the tacky ones, & make a statement & reveal your unique styles. What are they going to do...expell you?! Rules are meant to be bent and/or broken is my motto, especially on the last day of school!...LOL :)

Message: George- Your comment to Dawn regarding her daugther was out of line in my opinion. She was just making a comment regarding the color of graduation gowns. It has nothing to do with being lucky that she get's to go to school because she is a woman. And many students attend the same school their parents teach at. Again that has nothing to do with Dawn's comment regarding the color of a graduation gown.

Message: Hi Dawn! Glad to hear someone else from HHS became a teacher. I am not certain it would be a good idea for a mother to be her own child's teacher, but I don't have a problem with the same school. If the students and parents don't like the robes, they should have the right, like any other U.S. citizen, to ask for a change. I am not sure which to believe from you, Jorge. "Do as you are told" or "we have a choice"? But who am I? Just an old surfer...Thanks, Dawn.

Message: It really doesn't matter if my daughter goes to the same school I teach at. . . what if there was only one High School in the district I live in, should we move? My opinion is that the kids, whose graduation it is, are having no say in the matter. They (without me knowing) went to the administration and were blown off. Seems to me if they have an opinion they should have a say. Many teachers here have their children at my school. I am not involving myself in this issue, just trying to remember why it was changed the year I graduated from HHS to a single color.
