Message: George Gojun owned the Hawthorne Bowl in the 50's or 60's. Does anyone remember him? Does anyone have pictures? You can see pictures of George with Ernest Borgnine and Shelley Winters on the Jack Dempsey Party Train at baseballballcollections.com
I remember George owned the place and was his wife named Kay or Kate? Or maybe it wasn't his wife but she worked the counter at Hawthorne Bowl for many years.

Message: Hey Dawn; Tell your daughter to put on the robe and walk with everyone else down the aisle. Remind her that she is lucky to live in a country where she can even go to school and put on a robe to graduate in. You as a school representative should not have any personal feelings Re: this issue and should not have an opinion even if it is your daughter. Your daughter should not even be going to the same school that you teach in, that would eliminate these sort of problems. Jorge

Message: I have a question - Years ago HHS used to have the boys wear scarlet and the girls wear gold at graduation. If I remember correctly in 78 they went to all scarlet. Somehow in my mind the reason was because it was gender discrimination to have two colors and require each gender to wear a specific color. Anyone remember that? My daughter's school has always worn all green and this year they are requiring the girls to wear a very ugly gold robe. The kids are freaking out. Maybe if it was a decent color but it's not and there is no discussing it with the administation. I teach at the school and I don't even know who made the decision to change. My daughter doesn't want to walk in graduation she is so unhappy about the color. Anyone remember anything about our grad robes? Thanks! P.S. Chris Montez is my neighbor - He is great!
We all wore black or dark blue. We were PC

Message: Thanks Sue! My how time flies. I used to read feedback and think it was incredible that the kids of Cougars have already graduated from h.s. Now I'm one of the moms whose son has graduated and whose daughter is a Junior. Didn't we all think our parents were pas see when we were in h.s.? Thank goodness we were wrong about that! :). We are all still soooo cool.

Message: I went on the bus to the Santa Barbara game in 65. As we arrived being three touchdown underdogs we were being jeered and booed with thumbs down. Every player on our team that year must know that as we left on the bus with a 0 to 0 tie we received applause, cheers and thumbs up from the Santa Barbara fans. The officials may have given that game to Santa Barbara but our team must know they were the real winners that night. Lee Whitehouse

Message: Hello John and you know I LOOVVVVE YOUUU MAAANNNN! I was reading Cougartown today and this sentence jumped out at me: "I've been gone awhile 'cuz I've retired from The Salvation Army's Corporate Office in Long Beach and have just now gotten hooked up with my computer at home." That sounds exactly like the first sentence of a novel I would like to read or maybe even write! If Penny Prouty isn't going to follow up, can I borrow it and use it myself in something? Also, John, regarding another kind of Army, as well as Navy, AF and Marines, herein I would like to salute all Vets at Veteran's Day tomorrow and always. My father was a Veteran of WWII and also always his ship's photographer, largely because he brought a camera with him the day he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy. I keep his medals in a cigar box as he did himself but the photos I have of him and his mates aboard gray battleships and mine sweepers and convoys the North Atlantic are an inspiring legacy to honor. I know a few Cougs have sons and daughters serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and I want to take time out to assure them that the things we do Veteran's Day in their honor owe to our sense of awe, honoring what they do on all other days of the year. Peace and boat drinks to all, Joseph
Hey Joseph, we are all very proud of our service men and women. It seems with all the political screaming across the aisles of Congress these days, our military and their commitment to serve our Country is one thing in which we all agree. We all should be very proud of our warriors, then and now. Happy Veterans Day to you all.
