Message: Just want you to know we lost a good friend today - Myke Sciurba, Class of 1960. He attended Anza and Dana before becoming a Cougar. Myke is often remembered for his quick wit, fun-loving personality, love of photography, and the quarter
carat diamond in his left front tooth. He got to visit with a lot of old friends at the last cruise night in August. Myke was the best man at our wedding, a hunting and fishing pal, and a lifetime friend. After graduation he hired in at Edison and retired from there. Myke died from post-surgery complications and was surrounded by family and friends by his bedside at the time he passed. Our love and sympathy to his wife, Helen (Teague), Class of 1961. Message: The great DJ Art Laboe will be at San Manuel casino Saturday September 11 with the group Zapp at 7pm. Art Laboe got his start in radio in 1947 53 years as D.J. Art coined the term oldies but goodies for a 1959 compilation LP of rock hits as of today I still have the tape. Most of his shows were at the EL Monte Legion Stadium and also Long Beach. Message: John, I want to thank you and Cougartown for your help. A few months ago I posted on Feedback a request for recommendations for caregivers for my dad who has Alzheimer's. I received several helpful emails from Cougar alum, and was finally able to convince mom it was time to look into some help for her and dad. I set up some meetings with caregivers at their home in Hawthorne and my still reluctant mom politely thanked them for coming and would let them know when she needed help. Well, unfortuneatly, a few weeks later my mom had some health issues and was out of the house for three weeks. My siblings and I all pitched in to take care of dad 24/7 at home and stay with mom at the hospital, but now we were able to turn on the switch for caregivers and get some additional help. We have been using their services for just over a month and are getting the peace of mind that someone is always there to help when needed. In the process, I encountered Cougars in the business, Cristina Pulido '04, and Kim Fusco, who graduated from Hawthorne Intermediate and attended HHS her Frosh year before moving in 1980. Thanks again to all who helped! John, where are the pictures of the Leuzinger Farm and the other 100 or so Leuzinger family pictures you posted? I tried showing my mom, but couldn't find them.

Message: I guess this falls under the heading of "Old Cougars granddaughter makes good". I know there are lots of old Cougar golfers out there that may be interested in knowing that Fred Burkett's and my granddaughter, Kirsten Keyser will be playing in the upcoming Pebble Beach First Tee Open over Labor Day weekend. She will be paired with Sr PGA Pro, Mark Calcavecchia. They will be playing Del Monte on Friday and Pebble Beach on Sat at 12:44. Which course they play on Sunday will be determined by their finish on Sat. The Golf Channel will be broadcasting the tournament on all 3 days I believe. Kirsten is a freshman at CBU this year, attending on a golf/academic scholarship. Boy, have women's athletics come a long way since 1962! (I did play handball once and twirled a mean flag!)

Message: Cougar Sighting! Was up at the Lowe's in Lake Havasu City tonight, picking up a few things and the young cashier pointed at my (CT) T-shirt and said "what does your shirt mean?" When I told her it's for Hawthorne High School, she said that she also went to Hawthorne High. She said her name is Melissa Nichols, class of '06 (I said she was young), and that her Mom also went to HHS. Lisa Sease (sp), probably in the mid 1980s. I told her about Cougartown and asked her to tell her Mom, too. I knew these shirts were good for something besides garage rags.
