Message: Leo, it was a great little store. I can't remember the name of the guy who owned it in the late 50's, but Cathy Barnes' parents bought and operated it in the early 60's. You could return a Coke or Pepsi bottle for 2 cents and a quart bottle for a nickel. They had a small deli where you could buy a great cheddar cheese and tomato sandwich for a dime. You might remember Keith Weldon or his younger brother (his name escapes me). He lived at the top of the hill on 134th steet.

Message: Just a note to John Crotty, We have crossed paths. I think the last was at Foster Freeze last year, or maybe the year before? I want to let you know I'm pulling for you. You are in extremely good hands at UCLA. I'm biased since they have had a life extending (I call it CURE) impact on several people I know (my daughter is one). You and I have something in common besides HHS & CT, we have been blessed with great sisters, with Noreen on your side as well as the team at UCLA you can overcome this bump in your life.

Message: To all - stop it with the grammar already. I tried (tired) to make jest of worrying about it when we COMMUNICATE on Cougartown. Bobby and Cindy, old grammar stuff we learned as kids does not apply today. We can split an infinitive and end a sentence with a preposition even in formal English. It seems to just be something that we don’t have to concern ourselves with. So, there!! I never thought I was opening up such a can of worms, but apparently I am not the only one that has noticed some egregious errors in English. And as I said, WHO CARES ALREADY!!! Aveh grate sommer everbody. Jim Peppers
"Everbody" ... Jim I think you meant everybody I agree, care not about the grammar, but the substance.

Message: Jimmy. Regarding your message on July 29th, where you wrote, "I love the site and think it is something that HHS grads can be proud of." Ending the sentence with a preposition reminded me of the story of this good old boy from the south that got a scholarship to Harvard. On his first day on campus he asked another student, "'Scuse me, can you tell me where the the library's at? The student replied, " I can tell you the location of the library but I must tell you that, here at Harvard, we never end a sentence with a prepositon." The southern responded, "I'm sorry. Can you tell me where the library's at, *sshole?
Hey Bob, Now that's a memory lane joke, and thanks for telling it.
Is it OK to end a sentence with a pronoun?

Message: Karen, thanks for the correction on the address of Ramona School. It is indeed at 136th Street and Ramona. 134th and Ramona was once the site of a corner store. I lived at 133rd and Ramona. As for the reality show about Hawthorne football, where do I sign up. I'm retired but still coach at Franklin High School in Elk Grove, just south of Sacramento.

Message: Hey, John Crotty Boy; Hey Boy, LOL, I was hopping to meet my LAPD counterart on the 21st, someone who understands the cynical part of most cops. As I told the other John Boy & C/T creator, I don't usually venture north of Long Beach these days, always go south as do most people, no reason to go north. However, if I can talk the wife into the ride I hope to be there. Have been to one cruise and it was fun, seeing folks I have not seen in 35 + years or so, like Paco & John. Down side is, it makes you feel old. All kidding aside, good luck with the procedure and hope it goes well & works for you. I'm sure you are aware everyone is in your corner. Anyway, my LAPD brother, good luck again and leave the nurses alone, I will meet up with you another time. Jorge

Message: Hey CT! If you are in El Segundo and are looking for a great dinner, stop by Kip's on Main Street ... (owned and operated by Kip Long and myself, Class of 78) ... our advertising budget is about zero and wanted to get in a plug! Had a table of 10 a few weeks ago filled with Cougar Alums from Class of 76 and 77....It is a French-Country, Cajun style restaurant with a great wine bar! Also, I wanted to say what an honor it has been to work with Tammy Tagami-Reeves for the past 8 years in El Segundo. She was a valued School Board Member, PTA Member and go-to gal if you ever needed a volunteer or a job done right. I learned alot from her work ethic and will miss her smiling face around town. My prayers go out to Tammy's family.
Thanks Tammy, I'm sure we'll be there.

Message: A while ago, a friend asked me to join facebook, so I did. JB is so right. I didn't get it, couldn't figure out how to manipulate the site, didn't know half of the people who wanted me to be their friend, got weird notes posted on my "wall," and so I logged off and out forever. If any of you Cougs left me a message and I didn't respond...this is why. Not trying to snub ya, just couldn't get the thing...so use CT to reconnect with me...IT WORKS!!!! I love this place! Won't make cruise night. I am scheduled for a bone marrow transplant at UCLA starting next week to Sept. They say this is my last shot...so keep 'em crossed for me. Love you guys!!!
Hey John, thanks for the FB note as that's how I handle Facebook too. I just don't go there. Good luck with your procedure. I'm praying for your complete recovery buddy.

Message: I need to correct the address of Ramona Park for the National Night Out tomorrow night. It is on 136th and Ramona, not 134th. Wouldn't want a bunch of people showing up at Bill Schultz's (c/o 63) house by mistake. Sorry about that. Also , there is an interesting article in today's Daily Breeze. It is about MTV wanting to do a reality show about the Hawthorne High Football Team.

Message: Wanted to piggy back on the post about National Night Out. There are several groups in the Hawthorne Area sponsoring one this Tuesday night starting at 7 pm. In addition to the Wiseburn one, there will be one at Ramona Park on 134th St. and Ramona, another at Holly Park in Holly Park and I think one in Holly Glen Park. Come on out and join in one if you all can. They are very nice events. Ours at Ramona will feature activities for kids, free ice cream , bingo and the Police and fire dept. will be on hand for demonstrations and safety talk for all! We had one last year at Ramona Park and even showed the first Superman cartoon. Hope some Cougs can make it. All are welcome!
Thanks Karen.

Message: John - See, now this is why I check C-town every day. Just read about Dennis Campbell's mother. Well, Dennis grew up on Sundale - I grew up on Sundale (we lived 5 houses up the block). It's all about connections. I will notify my family and friends of Hank Campbell's passing. And we will all remain connected - thanks to Cougartown. This site means a great deal to me and I privately thank you each day, John.
Hi Betty, Yes it is like our hometown neighborhood. Someone gets the news and passes it on. Thanks for being a loyal Ctowner.
