Message: Last year I read all the complimentary things everyone said about wine country weekend, since we live in Santa Barbara county it seemed somewhat redundant to make a 6 hour trip each way [not to mention 45 minutes delay each way to Home land wineries in the dead of night with the dairy farm aroma surrounding us] but we did. Here is what I found to be true: 1. I still look up to Royal Lord as a friend and mentor; 2. Glenn Crist is one of the all time people in the Universe. Glenn thank you for making it such a great weekend for all of us, everyone raved about what you did and what a great host you were. A million thank yous. Get our bills out and DO NOT CHARGE ANYTHING TO YOU. 3. The 'girls' of '66 are still the best, Sharon, Lenora and Myrna it was great to see you and talk about our lives. Myrna thank you for the tour bus ride. 4. The class of '62 although not as good as our '66 has some great folks, Gordon Bell what a pleasure to meet you -you are as John has always portrayed you a terrific person. And the pork and beef were great! Janet Burkett you get younger every time we see you, I think it is your smile. 5. The Bierman girls are aces as well as their hubbies, Mike and Daryl. Great to meet all you folks again. 6. Max Roelen real pleasure to see you and your wife, LaVerne. You are always in our prayers. 7. Ed Sanchez the trip would not have been complete without meeting you and your lovely wife Nancy. We enjoyed the CSI stuff, be careful and see Max's comment too. 8. I got to see my buddy for nearly 47 years Young and someone I talk to virtually everyday and his 'HOT' wife Betsy, for nearly 47 years, You are a lucky guy Billy. 9. John Baker is still the king even though Realcourgartown.com has had a 30-1 ratio of hits versus cougartown.com and 10. Henry Cooper is Keyser Soze. Henry where are you! Thanks to all of you for the memories. Sincerely the SLOEYS
Hey Jim, thanks for coming and bringing my favorite non-Cougar spouse, Debby. Debby is always just too much fun. Thanks to R Lord and wife Pat for being there and for having the cajones to wear Dodger Blue to Giants country. Thanks to Ed Sanchez and wife for being there too. Ed, you were the youngest Cougar (HHS77). To Sue and Sharon, you two did a great job on the BBQ fixins. Thanks for all your help and for letting us take over your digs at the Larson house. Also thanks to Milt Calkins HHS62 for being there and bringing his award winning wines down from Oroville. Great seeing you Milt after 48 years. Have you gotten taller?
Well, just a BIG Cougar thank you to all of our Wine Country participants; (HHS61) Royal Lord. (HHS62) Gordon Bell, Milt Calkins, and Janet Humphreys. (HHS64) Glenn Crist and Lee Ann Nixon (all the way from Vancouver). The class with the most guests (HHS66) Sharon Moore, Lenora Mills, Myrna Bell, Jim Sloey, and Bill Young. (HHS74) Sue Bierman and Max Roelen. (HHS 76) Sharon Bierman Branigan. (HHS 77) Ed Sanchez.
Also I want to thank Dave Homewood, owner of Homewood Winery, for letting us take over the "Redder the Better" Lounge on friday and for letting Gordon and me use the Homewood guest room.
A Very Special Thank You to Glenn Crist for taking this whole adventure on. Glenn, you did an excellent job from the Brisket and Pork to the morning pastries and coffee to acquiring Vans and coordinating all the wine tasting stops, to all the rest. I know this wasn't easy, but you always make everyone feel at home and wanting for nothing. Thanks to all for a fun filled weekend in Wine Country. OH... and Henry Cooper, where are you?

Message: I'm sorry to say that the Wine Country Weekend II is over. It was a terrific weekend and for all of you who thought of going - you missed a great event. Thanks Glenn for all of the work you put in to this, and again, thanks John for bringing all us Cougs together!
Yep, just got home from Sonoma and what a fun weekend we had with lots of Cougars across the board. Thanks to all who showed up for this weekend's festivities. Now, to bed.

Message: A special message to Cougars' who cared and loved Janice Brown Marconi '64. We lost a wonderful woman today as Janice passed after a long battle with cancer. I was kindly notified by her daughter, Carrie Ruden, of the loss of her mom. Those of you who reached out acknowledging what a special person Janice was will surly remember the wonderful warm and meaningful smile of "my gal" in high school and friend for life. Her husband Al, and daughter's were by her side as loving family members. I for one will miss Janice but never-never forget that she put other's first above all as well as the love she had for her husband, children and grandkids. May our Lord bless her soul and care for those who love Janice forever more. Her special memorial will be held at Rice Mortuary in Torrance - June 14th at 2 PM. Janice is our loss and the Lord's gain as she now has that special place. Her memory lives on in my heart, mind, and soul.
Very tough to lose our Cougar friends, Dick. Our sincere condolences to Janice's family and friends.

Message: Hey Cal - right behind Chardonnay, (which happens to be my favorite adult beverage of choice) the number two best selling wine varietal in America is White Zinfandel. It's popular for two primary reasons: it is generally inexpensive -- almost universally sold for less than $8 per bottle -- and it has a slightly sweet taste that makes for easy drinking ("gulping"). I, personally, am not a regular drinker of White Zinfandel wines, but I won't turn down a glass if offered, especially on a hot summer's day. Can't say that it is my favorite wine, but variety is a nice thing from time to time.

Message: I guess this is not a Cougar sighting. More of a Cougar reading. Yesterday there was an article in our local throwaway paper regarding a local poet. In the article they quoted Dana Gioia, NEA Chairman, regarding how good a poet she was. The name sounded familiar so I googled him. Turns out he was born in Hawthorne. I vaguely remember him being mentioned an feedback a couple years ago. I hope everyone has a fun trip in wine country.
Must be Ted's kin.

Message: Thank you for the positive response to my past post. Gee, it's better than getting an A+ from Mr. Stan Ferguson for an English paper! Praise from peers is always the best! On another note, I was contacted by some members of the classes of 1971-1973 and asked if the class of 1970 wants to join them in a multi-class reunion. I'm going to meet with some of them in about a week and see what needs to be done. Look for more info and ways to be part of this event. Presently it is going to take place next summer (2011). Tom Woodward and I don't want to be the only ones from 1970 so please update your contact information here. TTYL Thank you John for this forum to gab.

Message: OMG! Should read the entire "page" of Cougartown before sending a message! Just got to the part about the Do Wop Concert in Cerritos on May 14. I was there with my friend Ray McMinn and my brother Newell Endicott and his friend Norma. As I sat there, I remembered other concerts I had attended with Larry Cole and a bunch of Hawthorne friends at the Redondo Beach facility at the old Aviation High School auditorium (I think that is what it was), and I thought there must be someone here I know. We were in the balcony! Wish we had recognized some of you others as we were leaving! Glad to know I travel is such a great circle!

Message: I Check out the link on You Tube that Neil Larson mention about the video made on the Hawthorne Campus. Boy, did that guy mess-up on the pronunciation of Shoup Street. I grew-up on Shoup Street and I never heard anybody pronounce it like that. Did he say he's from Hawthorne, sounds like he's from back east.
