Message: I have one prom story I have to tell although I'm sure everyone involved wishes the story would fade into Hawthorne legend.....Prom night 1976, I took Sefanie Gustason, she wore a beautiful black dress and for some unknown reason I wore a white tux. Her dad loaned me his car because I don't think he trusted my '68 Rambler American. He had bought the car from some studio and Telly Savales had driven it on the "Kojak" series. I picked up my date and off we went to the Riviera country club. As we pulled into the parking lot we spotted some friends arriving in a limo as I recall. The limo door opened and out popped Sue Spensko, senior class secretary. Now Sue was not a "drinker" but she had obviously been imbibing that evening. As she got out of the car she turned a strange shade of green and then turned back to the car and proceeded to puke on her good friend Jasna Begovich who had not gotten out yet. We all spent the next hour cleaning poor Jasna up and getting Sue situated in the ladies room for the evening. I remember making numerous trips to the ladies room with 7-up for poor Sue. At the end of the night Sue felt a little better and we all went back to my dates home where her mother had prepared a great meal for all of us. A good time for all and a story to tell! Sue was better in a few days but the moral for any young people hearing this story is don't use prom night for your first experiments with alcohol and if any who looks green comes toward you..run!!
Hey Clark, I know you cleared this with Sue before telling this story, huh

Message: Just a quick note; because I spend a lot of time in Santa Monica with business, I know most of the cafes in the area. The Buffalo Club on Olympic blvd is a great spot. I was there last month and next to us was a birthday party. The cake came and people started to sing. Over the voices was this geart voice and we knew we were sitting next to Carole King. Took me back twenty years.

Message: Reading Larry's posts about viewing proms as something not worthy of a pure leftie made me chuckle. It is amazing Larry and I got along so well back then since even then I was a Bill Buckley political conservative. But, Larry has since seen the light. We swap all kinds of political goodies via email. Ah, the wonders of modern technology! I didn't bother with the proms (no car, no money), although I did hit most of the sock-hops. Boorish behavior by women (I am sure the ladies can tell plenty of stories of boorish behavior by men) as described by Larry have no age limit. (I did a double-take about Larry being 38 in 1992 since we're 56 now. That gave me a start. Seems like only yesterday.) Last week I had to dump a girlfriend for boorish behavior after I and some of her female co-workers threw a surprise birthday party for her 30th birthday. Her co-workers all have sided with me. Yes, at least the Mustang looked good!

Message: "COUGAR SIGHTING" (2) Well as most of you know, I sell at the auto swap meets in the area. While talking my trash to my customers on Sunday May 9, I find out that the kid I'm talking to was the son of Doug Smith class of "69". He also graduated from Hawthorne in 2003. Josh Smith. What a great kid. He walks away and comes back and says, "give me your card, any friend of my dads, is a friend of mine". Hope to here from you again Josh. As the day goes by, I am talking to another guy and his wife about a color bar that I am selling. I give them a card and they say they will call. Yesterday, this guy calls and says he wants the color bar and says he is in Hawthorne, which prompts me to ask the $1,000 question. And yes he graduated in 1972. John (I forgot his last name) and his wife came to my house and purchase a color bar. But the best thing was those old memories we shared for almost an hour. 26th street beach, hokie panoke, the Bolinger's ranch, cruising the blvd., and of course the Beach Boys. He has never heard of Cougartown, so I turned him on to the site and I hope he joins our happy family. John if you read this please leave feedback. It was great getting to know another alumni. It is amazing how small the world is. Wayne
Hey Wayne, Good one....or two sightings. Thanks very much, and for passing the word.

Message: Kim, I also attended the Carole King/James Taylor show in San Jose. We could have car pooled. I agree that the show was terrific and would urge any of us old timers to see them. I saw Carole King in Santa Rosa a few years back in a small theater but could not resist the opportunity to experience them together. Even in the large venue (the San Jose Shark Tank)they sounded great.

Message: I was just looking for an old friend on facebook and found out that she had passed away. The post led me to Cougartown Feedback and I just can't find out any information. Nothing listed in Tributes. Can anyone help me. Her name was Andrea Emmick (Croxton) class of 1969. The post said she had passed away on March 24, 2003. The last time I saw & talked with her was back in 1991.
Hi Paul, Go to Search|Cougle Search and type in Andrea Emmick. Cougle searches all the Feedback pages back to page 1. Good Luck

Message: I saw Ironman 2 last weekend(great special effects, worth the big screen viewing) and stuck around to see the "teaser" at the end of the credits. (which take about a half hour to end because of the million of CG people involved in the movie) Anyway, near the end of the credits it reads "Our thanks to the City of Hawthorne California". There was a scene by Randy's Donuts but I didn't recognize anywhere else.
They should have thanked Inglewood

A fantastic 3 hour show as described in this concert blog: Seeing them perform together again after attending their concerts at the LA Forum 30+ years ago was magical. They never sounded better and if they're performing in your area, go!

Message: Can't wait for the wine country event. Lenora Mills Puls and I will be driving up together. It should be a lot of fun. P.S. I forgot, I did attend one HHS prom. That was the all class prom held in 2001. Organized by my favorite person the incomparable judy wudy chicken boodie Rowdy Girl. I had a date. I invited my husband. He said yes even though he had major brain surgery Feb 14, 2001. He is a trooper with his shaved head and trademark Spaulding scar on the side of his head and dent on top, he showed up. I was and am happy he is alive to be with me. Yes that is the BEST PROM I ever attended. Sorry, John, obviously have nothing to do today. House & pet sitting at my sister's. The house basically takes care of itself and the dog keeps me company. though job, but somebody has to hold down the fort. I promise I will not write you another short story again today. I heard that, "What do you mean short thought you are asking yourself." Bye. Thanks for the space. Will someone else please chime in here, I don't want to look like a word hog. Okay, okay I'll stop.
Thank you Sharon, now go take a nap with the dog. See you in Wine Country in a few weeks.

Message: Hey, Rich Boy; LOL, you just brain teased me, and a story popped into my old head. John Boy, another slow day in Long Beach. Anyhow, back in H/S, A buddy of mine talked me into a blind date with he & his Friday night blind date (first mistake, blind date). We picked up these two corn fed beauties (not from HHS), went to the liquor store and had a guy buy us some beer and off to the Roadium drive-in on Rosecrans Ave. we went. All the way, these two girls were bad mouthing everything about the car their make up, the weather & you name it. If we had been smart, which we were not, we would have turned the car around and taken them home & dropped them off and went & drank our beer, however, we didn't. Subsequently, we got to the Roadium and after the movie started, the two beauties decided that they had to go to the ladies room, I never met any ladies at a drive-in. When the two of them went into the concession building, beings I was driving, I moved my car to the far back side of the drive-in, several rows back. My buddy & I sat back, drinking our beer and watched these two as they came out and tried to locate the car. Finally after what seemed like about a half hour, I got out and walked toward the rest room and saw them, acting concerned, I told them that we had been looking all over for them, that they must have forgotten where we parked the car. They never said a word after that until we said good night as we dropped them off after the movie. My buddy and I then went to a party over on Chadron Ave. near Crenshaw Bl., where there was always a Friday night party in those days. Hey, Bach Boy, does that make you feel a little better LOL, that's how the earlier classes guys handled a bad situation back in the day. Remember my cousins training, #1, "always have an alternate plan" Jorge

Message: Hey John, it might be fun for for Cougars to post some prom pix. Got enough room on your server? If so, should we send them to Paco or maybe you could make a new home for them? Anybody agree with me?
Sounds like a fun idea Rick. Yes, for now, send them to Paco at doo4usc@hotmail.com
He'll be gone to Cabo for a week or so but when he returns he can add them to Pacos Pics. BTW, I'm leaving next Tuesday for Kentucky and Tennessee. I'll be back on the 26th.

Message: Oh my goodness Richard, I hope you two didn't pay for grad night for those two little hussies. In our day the guy paid for everything. And listen up ladies of the generations after us, the girls did not feel obligated to reciprocate. We had the power. Although, then I did not know it. I was just terrified of my father.
Thank God for women's lib....

Message: Bonnie Lou. I thought my never being invited to a prom at HHS was a sad story. However, at least a friend, Rich Trevit, from LHS invited me to his senior prom. I had a great time, and still have the pics. They are beautiful. A short stubby me, next to a tall, good-looking Olympian, Oh, and the hair. If you think it is high in my senior picture, you should see the prom picture. It makes me almost as tall as Rich. Anyway, a friend comes to the rescue of a spinster HHS senior. He is still a friend and has a beautiful wife and family.

Message: Well, I didn't go to the prom either because I wasn't allowed to date. Of course, when you aren't allowed to date, you get in more trouble than if you were allowed to. At least with me, it worked that way. It has been fun reading all of the prom stories - the good, the bad, and the funny.
More trouble??
