Message: Hi Cougars - I had a nice (hour + long) conversation with a Jim Murray from Maryland who is writing a book about the early days of the Beach Boys. The name of the song I was referring to (in my previous message) is Shut Them Down, recorded in '63 and is on the B side of the record (B for boat). He said I must have been sailing for a while. He is a king for information about the "Boy's", and the Night Owls Dance Band, I've given him some skinny about Spider Morgan, my brother Jerry (Class of '58) said he could only see long arms and legs when he directed. If anyone has memories about this subject, post a note and he'll get in touch with you. I think this is going to be a must read book.
Thanks Milt.

Message: Jim, I didn't know Huskers could make point? DR always had his hands taped. I thought the short haired Pheasant dog was the only warm blooded mammal in Nebraska who could point? (Good Pheasant Hunting in western Nebraska) Huskers can raise a digit(Big Toe) and point. I guess! Most Huskers have lost their fingers getting the corn out of the spokes!!! Thought we'd start early so we could have some fun before the SC faith full get their 6 month, Kiffin/Carrol, who's better banter out of the way! Hey, How 'bout dem Cougars!!

Message: Senior Square Update: I spoke with Kimberlee Stack, ASB Advisor at HHS, yesterday she stated that “Our goal is to have the location settled by the end of April, at least one work-party scheduled for May, then we'll see where we're at. If necessary, we can schedule another in June.” Their long-term goal looking backwards is to have something nice in place by the end of the year (June 10), even if it's a simpler start. I will continue to keep everyone informed regarding the progress of Senior Square and the work-party date for May
Hey Bob, thanks for the update.

Message: Cougartown is not the right forum, so this will be my last post fot the Honorble Mayor. To all the Guidi haters and supporters, the next scheduled public appearance for mayor Guidi is at the city council meeting this Tuesday, April 13 at 6:30pm at the city hall. Anyone who wants to know the facts should attend this meeting. If you want anwsers you have to ask questions. Based on the answers you recieve, you can either accept what he says, or go on your merry way. "This is America, citizens must demand that elected officials act properly because they represent us at the end of the day." OK! I will now go outside and smell a rose.lol
Thank you Michael.

Message: Happy Birthday to my friend, Jeff Pieters, c/o 73. Jeff is the one who led me to this page back in 1998 and I appreciate him so much for that! Jeff is starting a whole new chapter in his life - a retirement in June, a passle of grandkids to keep him busy and time to spend on himself for awhile. Have a great year Jeff!! In honor of your 55th birthday, I am gifting you a Cougartown membership this year. Who else remembers how they found CT or how they stumbled upon this place?? I think the membership is the nicest way to say thank you.....
Happy Birthday Jeff and thank you Sue for picking up Jeff's membership. You are a sweet kid.

Message: We had our OC mini-reunion on Saturday. What we lacked in quantity, we made up in quality. There were only 8 of us there, but Sharon, Gloria, John, Dennis, Sandra, Don, Tom and myself made it into a good time. We are talking about doing another one in July, details unknown at this time, but I have a few months to think about it. Hope everyone had a great time this weekend. JB, was your mom surprised?
Yes she was. We had about 12 here on Saturday for her 90th. Glad you guys had fun too and let us know about the next one.

There is something about a Hawthorne woman that makes the heart grow fonder!! John C my best to you and the irons, golf clubs, are still working in my favor. Jim Sloey, John Deere called and wants the combine back. You can't paint an NU on it in Red.

Message: Hey, Michael- what's with the vendetta against Hawthorne everytime you write in? Maybe you should "go smell a rose." On the lighter side, remember Art Laboe? He was recently awarded a lifetime achievement award in late January of this year at the radio.com awards luncheon in Studio City. He still takes song requests and dedications from 7pm to midnight Sunday through Friday on KHHT "Hot 92.3" FM. What a guy.
Still going strong after 60 years in radio.

Message: Hawthorne Mayor Guidi was escorted out of his office at the school district on Tuesday and put on leave pending investigation. Guidi has an office at the school district, where he has worked as a facilities manager overseeing construction and remodeling projects for 10 years. The school district is not able to comment (and cannot release any related documents) to the public until the investigation is complete. The district's investigation would be aimed focused on Guidi's employment status (i.e. should he be fired for cause); privacy is also needed so as not to impact any potential criminal investigation by the District Attorney's office. This is a matter between Mr. Guidi and the Hawthorne School District. "It doesn't concern the city, Guidi is still the mayor of Hawthorne."
Cause of what? Is this, as of yet, a non-story?

Message: To Jean Macernie; I like your opinion of Mike Love which reminded me of Al Jardine. He couldn't sing in high school and he can't sing now. He asked Dave Carter (Class of '60, played the tenor sax in the HHS Night Owls Dance Band), if he could teach him how to play the sax for a new song they were working on. Dave could only teach him two notes. Every time I hear his solo it reminds me of the Long Beach Harbor Lighthouse Fog Horn. I don't remember the name of the song but it was one of the car songs. Side note... Fred Morgan did not flunk Brian Wilson in music writing (as the story goes). Brian told Fred, I'm going to be a song writer and Fred told him "You'll never make it". Every time I see Fred, the story changes.

Message: Craig-e worked at Mattel Toys one summer, cleaning the parking lots with a big brushing machine that broke down every hour or so.
