Message: Okay Cougars one and all, it's time to get back to the old Cougartown. You've all been wonderful, beyond wonderful, but for some, including the old cynical cop that I am, I'm sure are thinking "enough is enough" with this John Crotty guy! So, let's change the subject. How about, "First kiss?"

Message: Wow, John what a story. I am so very happy that you feel better. And I have to share something too (not even close to your story) I got pneumonia and I guess my blood oxygen level was kind of low at 84% so the doctor of course had mesent to the hospital. I only spent a couple days there cause I hate that place. They took a ton of tests which I liked cause at least I found out nothing else is wrong and I am in pretty good shape considering. But, I had pneumonia in my upper right lung. So I went home with my meds and bought all kinds of neat stuff to make my room into a mini MASH unit so I wouldn't have to go back. Well I went in for a follow up and the doctor wanted me back in the hospital. Well I didn't go and had him give me whatever I need to stay out. After signing a few docs stating I won't blame them if I die cause they warned me I went home. Well I put something on my Facebook page and I ended up getting about 100+ responses and emails including a ton of them from fellow Cougars Tami Perius and Diana Sanchez. These two girls spent so much time helping me and giving me advice. Diana is a nurse and Tami had the same thing happen to her last year. I have not talked to Tami since graduating in 1976. I was of course in love with her like everyone else was in high school. her family if close to me and I feel bad not keeping in contact with them. Well we talked and talked and it was awesome. She is such a beautiful women and she really helped me and I love her. Now Diana is a nurse and she knows as much as any doctor. We talked for quite a while too. We didn't even hardly talk in high school. She was one year older and was in that upper hot classness that I didn't get to be around much in high school. But her brother is a friend of mine. Well she too helped me so much. Both these fellow Cougars took time to help and give me advice. I am telling you that Cougars are something special. I am a little embarrassed at where our city has gone and even our school but when I went to HHS and most of you went, there wasn't a better school. And the way we support each other and have stayed friends and become friends so many years after leaving is amazing. As I get older I get more sentimental. So all this really touches me. John Crotty's story is unreal and just shows how much being a Cougar mean. Anyway, thank you and I am fine now.

And the magic of Cougartown ensures it doesn't have to be....be well. Hope to see you again soon - our last visit was much too short! We might have to get John to set an early summer cruise night. I find we can never have too many Cougar visits....XOXOXO

Message: My beloved Cougars, What can I say here! I'm home again. Last Friday I was told I had two to three days to live and I was back in the hospital. My cancer had grown so aggressive my oncologist had never seen a case like it before. I went through a battery of procedures to get the blood back to as normal as possible, three more surgeries and I don't know how many blood and plasma transfusions. They still don't have any certain prognosis, so it will be a battle for sure, but I gotta keep fighting. Again, my sister Noreen asked for your help and prayers and none of you let me down. So here I am! And wow, the offers for blood donations. Simply overwhelming. You all amaze me! I can't begin nor should I even try to put into words what all of you have done for me. Many of you I've never even met. I am brought to tears as I write this because I just can't grasp love and compassion you have bestowed upon me. Thank you....that is such a underwhelming expression of my gratitude. There has to be a word or phrase bigger than thank you. But it's all we have, so THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! With all my soul and with the most deepest part of my heart, thank you Cougars...Love John
Hey John, You are loved by us all. No need for thanks, just keep fighting and we'll keep the prayers coming man. Thanks for the update.

Message: For those of you who are considering flying to Cougartown Wine County Weekend, Southwest Airlines has fares starting at $49.00 each way (for example, Burbank, Los Angeles or Orange County to Oakland, Sacramento or SFO). Tickets must be purchased by April 1, 2010, 11:59 pm Pacific Time. For those traveling within California there is an offer that is valid until April 27th (14 day advance purchase). This isn’t available for the Memorial Day weekend and is valid every day except Fridays, Saturdays, & Sundays, so if you are able to fly in on Thursday and fly home on Monday, go here. For those needing transportation from the airport, Sonoma County Airport Express has service from Oakland and SFO to Petaluma, Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa. Petaluma is twenty-five minutes away, and I’d be happy to transport from there to the hotels.
Sounds great Glenn, thanks

Message: Thank you everyone for your prayers and blood donation offers. John is getting all the blood he needs, but I think it's fabulous to donate. I have asked at the hospital nurses station, but they just give us the general donation info, that anyone can donate in anyones name. Our brother, Paul, and another friend donated on Monday for him. I love the Cougartown donation idea. John is exhausted, but he is doing much better as he has received the treatments he needed these past 3 days. Please keep sending up the prayers, he has another procedure today. The miracles just keep on coming!
Thanks Noreen, and John, Get better dude.

Message: Two things: The "Beach Boys" on "Dancing With The Stars" are actually Mike Love and his rent-a-boys. I heard from some friends from the east coast and they said they were horrible. Secondly, and most important, best wishes to John Crotty for a speedy recovery.
I like the new guys, but Mike Love could retire.

Message: I am sad to say that my friend Ellen Wright (Class of '64) has passed away from ovarian cancer. She put up a good battle though. Her obituary is in the El Segundo Herald. My heart and sympathy goes out to her family. I don't see her in the class list, but she attended the El Segundo picnic the time before last.
Hi Kathy, Yes Ellen was one of the ones who got us a spot for the picnic. Very sorry to hear the sad news. Our condolences to you and the rest of Ellen's friends and family.

Message: I looked up WM online and, while I don't know John, I can see from other postings that he is quite a guy and not a quitter. This appears to be a very rare condition and is quite often treatable and manageable. While they don't know a lot about it because it's so rare, it is unpredictable. The odds are definitely on John's side for a good recovery and I am with everyone else with my thoughts and prayers. And it certainly looks like the good is there working for him.

Message: Sharon, You are correct about the blood exchange, also, the family and /or John has to set up the blood donation thing with the Red Cross I believe. Another issue is that I don't think John's family or John have/has asked for blood donations as of yet. I hope he's getting better and does not need the donations. Semper Fi John, get better, man you L.A. guys will do anything to get a little attention, God Bless. Jorge

Message: Like Sharon Leach, I am unable to donate blood for medical reasons. But if I could, I would be one of the first in line. I hope there are people who follow Sharon's suggestion and donate their blood in John's name, no matter the blood types they may have. As long as it credits John's account and he is able to receive all the blood, of his type, that he needs.
So far there hasn't been a call from John for blood but it might be a good thing to set up a Cougartown blood bank. Anyone know the details on setting up such a thing?
