Message: Hey, Keith Boy; How about a wet "T" shirt or a Pole Dance contest, that would definately sepparate the classes from year to year that's for sure and definately get the party started LOL. Howard "Paco" Duran or Dennis "Mamal" Campbell would probably be a shoe-in for the Pole Dance contest and John Nix or J/B might have a shot at the "T" shirt contest. Hey guys, just funnin, it's a slow day in the Desert;Jorge

Message: Okay folks, I am working on a website for the upcoming Multi-class reunion in Las Vegas from June 10 to June 13. It is hosted by the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino which is a 4 Diamond resort. The website will have everything you will need to know about the reunion. We are working on getting Slot Tournament just for us, free buffet tickets and more. The response has been unreal so far. This could be a really big and fun time. Hey it is Vegas how can it not be fun! The weather will be awesome and pool will be open. So stay tuned. I will have it done hopefully by the end of the week. If I could get enough people to sign up early I would like to put on a Golf Tournament. If anyone has ideas for fun email me and I will try to set it up. It would be awesome if we could get 200 people here.

Message: John, your comment about making an ashtray in metal shop reminded me of my own shop class project. This was at Dana. I made a wooden duck with wings made out of copper. I left my duck hanging in a tree in Elk, California (Mendicino County) around 69 or 70 during my attempt at "hippie communing". I wonder if it's still there.

Message: HHS robotic team 'Metalcrafters', nationally known as Team 207, finished the first day of competition in Washington D.C. with 4 wins and 2 loses. Their three final scheduled matches are tomorrow. Interesting is that they do not face opponents on their own, but battle on a three team alliance. May they be teamed with strong teams tomorrow. Go, Cougars (ah, Metalcrafters) Go ! Why didn't they have this when we were at HHS?

Message: I just got caught up on feedback and was very pleased to see that four alumni took the time to go to campus and help the students with input regarding senior square. Senior Square is near and dear to me because my class(76) rebuilt it our senior year because the concrete was crumbling. I'd like to thank the four folks who took their valuable time to be there. I'm sure Bob Fraser, Bob Jensen, Gary Shambaugh and Sharon Bierman represented us well. I would have loved to be there but a midweek flight from the Midwest was not in the cards. I would have come just to see Gary & Sharon because Gary(senior class president'71) inspired both Patty Valencia(74) and myself to run for senior class president. Sharon was voted "most school spirit" in our senior hall of fame, in addition to being head cheerleader. Bob Jensen you're doing a good job spearheading this, keep up the good work! Most of all I was pleased to see that four folks find Senior square to be more important than a pencil sharpener (in your face Tom L.!!)_senior class

If anyone knows her or her husband Dave Jeppesen, post it here. I check every week. I still tell stories about Mrs. Corliss (typing). In her effort to get me to spell San Francisco correctly, she gave one of my assignments an "F" for misspelling Francisco! To this day I think of her when writing this city!!!

Message: Kimberlee Stack is the ASB advisor and teacher on campus. She likes all of our ideas but she realizes that it has to get started before the class of 2010 graduates. The class is developing a plan. The idea is to start simple, much like the original square, slab of cement with benches around the edges and tables in the middle. The school has some portable planters that they thought they could use in the development. I assume that each graduating year will help improve the square. The main goal is to reestablish the tradition of a Senior Square. As our meetings progress I will share the information with all.

Message: I just thought of an idea for Senior Square. I like the thought of bricks to help finance the project. How about also adding low (say 3-1/2 feet) perimeter walls (possibly incorporated into the seating within the square). The surface of the wall facing out could be covered tiles celebrating alumni who have excelled in academics, athletics and life. Examples, I can think of off the top of my head are people like Dan McCammon (Cal Tech and JPL), Linda McVey (first woman editor of the Harvard Crimson), the phenomenal track teams who still hold state and national records, the baseball and football players who went on to star in the professional ranks, and the Beach Boys in entertainment. I’m sure, others of you can add to this list. Glazed tiles could be created on campus. And with any luck, it might inspire current and future students to strive for greatness in their own way.

Message: When the Beach Boys attended Hawthorne High, was the school's lay-out similar to that, today? I visited a few years ago (because the band's work had made so substantial an impact on my life), and was surprised to see a pod-based setting that seemed so modern; I was very surprised because I assumed that such a setting hadn't been that used in the early '60s. Thanks for any constructive feedback.

Message: Dean - congrats on your retirement. My suggestion on what to do now - - would be to look into RV'ing. It can be a little pricy to rent one, but if you haven't done it, then renting could be a way to see if you would enjoy the lifestyle. (If you decide to purchase one - check with your tax person) Big RV show in Pomona in April I believe. Plenty of us "geezers" are out on the road seeing the USA. Pretty neat stuff out there. Good Luck and have fun doing whatever you decide.
