Message: Well, I've had just about 3 feet of snow in the past two days and there is more to come. I shake my head and wonder what the heck a Hawthorne girl is doing up here in all this snow. I tried to help dig out my blazer today, but I only think my boyfriend wanted to see me try to get through 3 feet of snow on my very wobbly legs. It was a laugh fest as I got about 30 feet and sat in the car with the heater on. I wasn't built for this town that's for sure and I won't be going out in this until a path is made for me! Big Bear is covered and I do mean covered in snow and please make it stop soon! The power goes on and off and the waterheater needs to be lit over and over again. As I said I wasn't built for this, it's really pretty and that's about all I can say for the snow. I hope everyone else is safe and dry.

Message: I often tell people of the special students that I had when teaching biology during the 50's and 60's. We had some great winter storms during those years, and although the campus was flooded (yes, boards to cross giant puddles) and pouring rain, they came to class on time, ready to take and unwilling to miss those ten-point quizzes. If you were one of them, thanks for the memories!

Message: Hey, John Boy; It's a slow rainy day in Long Beach, and I read Mike's post and your response. It started me thinking about sayings and that's dangerous. "Smithereens & Kingdom Come", is that a saying like people "looking for a loophole" or are they "looking for the easy way out" ?. What about "Oxy Moron", is that like saying Polititions don't lie, or a Car salesmen won't try and cheat you ?. What about "too little too late", what does that mean anyway is that the oposit of "too much too soon", I never cound understand some of these sayings or where they came from. I guess I'm just a little slow or am I a little fast? How many other useless saying are out there, I bet Jerry Sienfeld knows.

Message: I found Cougartown about 1998 when I did a search on the internet looking to see if the Class of 1963 was having a reunion. My family had moved to Hawthorne in late 1961 - just in time for the rainy season. I seem to recall that the grassy area near the gyms was wet enough for some intrepid Cougars to use it like a slip-and-slide. Whenever we'd complain at home about the rain, my father would quip "at least you don't have to shovel rain". When they were showing scenes on tv this morning of mud slides, it brought to mind the mud (kind of a reddish color) that washed into our backyard from where they were building the freeway. Hope all Cougars are warm, dry, and safe.

Message: Remember the rainy days of 1962 and 1969? Driving fast in the curb lane making big waves, watching the pedestrians run for their lives, equipment falling off of the San Diego Freeway onto Anza from the mud slides while the freeway was being built, making rafts and floating in the parking lot off of Aviation and 124th street, Polly Wogs, and last but not least, the board they put down at HHS so you could get across the puddles.

Message: Okay, I have to many of my friends pass away in the past couple years. And they were way to young. I have been getting ahold of alot of my old friends and calling them and just staying in touch and we talk about the past alot. I just want to take this time to say to my Cougar family that you guys have been a great way for me to type out some stories and past memories that in reality I would not be able to ever talk about to anyone cause while living in Hawaii I never saw any of my old friends. So I used Cougartown to kind of re-live my past which at the time was a hell of alot better than my current situation after my stupid incident with that pesky spider. I had no one to talk to other than my family on Cougartown. Well as I got better physically and mentally you might notice I don't post as much. That is because I am out and about and doing some really exciting things. Also, I have decided to use the phone more and keep in contact with my old friends. Anyway, in short I just wanted to say how much I enjoy Cougartown reconnecting with old friends and being able to at least bring back some great memories of my past at HHS and with friends I have not seen in years. And, I wanted to let everyone know that you have been a great part of my last 8 years or so and have made it at least somewhat bearable. And, as somber as it sounds if I all of a sudden kick the bucket I wanted to let everyone know on Cougartown that you are like an extended part of my family which means alot to me and that I have enjoyed every second I spend on here. Thanks John and everyone else especially my fellow 76" classmates. We really did have an awesome class and when I think about it it was one of the best times of my life. I don't plan to go anytime soon but just in case. And please if it does happen if my daughters and grandkids ever come on here please extend the Cougartown heart to them. They are what gives me the strength to live as long and as good as I can.

Message: This is a really late report of a Cougar sighting. Early December I attended a Christmas program at the Magnolia Baptist Church in Riverside. As I was entering the door to the auditorium, the man taking the tickets looked very familiar so I asked him if he had gone to HHS. He said, "that was 50 years ago. How am I supposed to remember?" After the program Charles Thorne, class of 1959, found me and introduced me to his wife, the minister and several others! The New Year promises to be a really happy one for me and I wish all our Cougar family a Happy New Year!
