Message: John C. glad you are doing fine too.....My stroke was on April 24th but NO HEADACHE...my symptoms were a Burning Left Eye, Double Vision, Weakness in My Right Hand, and Slurred Speech (OK OK my speech is usually slurred) but people do not think the ONLY warning sign to a Stroke is a headache. I encourage ALL Cougars to monitor your blood pressure, watch your diet, and get physicals to check your health. Its a long road back..but its better that the alternative...Good Luck John C. Good Luck on Your recovery...Hey Clark Millman..I heard you had a stroke too..How are you doing?? H1 OUT

Message: Another Cougar sighting (my second in as many months!) Yesterday at work, first call received was from a gentleman (Jeff White) who I had met on the job about 20 years ago. I relayed his message to the appropriate co-worker. Later in the morning, and to my surprise, Jeff's wife, Sharon (Anderson) shows up to take out a permit for her mother-in-law. Of course, I had in the meantime (more recent years) learned that they both graduated from Hawthorne High in 1968, so as soon as she said her name and I saw her, I knew she was another HHS alumni without any help (the confirming conversation took place by phone, so we had a Cougar Hearing before the Sighting) I probably have only learned she was graduate of HHS via Cougartown and Miaaka Lester sharing that information about her coworker (Sharon) at the time. I only recognized their names.) By chance(more realistically due to our small communities,) I spoke with Sharon recently regarding health information for traveling overseas, and verified it was her who was from HHS too, and I also mentioned my first official Cougar Sighting (Gregory Bashford, in May.) The Whites are not on-line, but we talked of having a local mini HHS reunion as she has members of both their families coming and we are both aware of so many residing here now. Still waiting to "Sight" the other Cougars who are now in the Eastern Sierra that I do not know! Thanks John!

Message: John Crotty. wow man, sounds like a terrifying experience. glad to hear you came through, when one leaves, we are all less for it, something along those lines from "for whom the bells toll". I had a heart event the day before Mothers Day, out of the blue, began to smother, but enough to call 911 and wait for paramedics. For you diabetics, I am told we have "silent" heart attacks and often don't feel pain at all, just quietly smother. no damage done, but frightening nonetheless. Get better John.

Message: J. Crotty, I am so pleased you are doing well and that you continue on the mend... Life sometimes throws us a few curves and we must savor every moment. My wife and I both were diagnosed with cancer last year and are both cancer free after surgery with no chemo required... Both being very physically active and never ill, it was a real shock to us both but again it made us appreciate the more important things in life such as each other, our family including two daughters and five grandsons and friends. Happy Father's Day Dads!!! I would like to say a special one to my father who has been an inspiration to my brother and I and to all who know him. He is almost 89, totally independent and called me the other night to tell me he just changed his car's oil and rotated the tires... I gave him gray hair when I was growing up and now he gives me gray hair worrying about him. He still lives in the same house we grew up in on Truro and misses Mom, who died in 2000, a lot. He amazes me with his courage, wisdom and positive outlook on life... I have been blessed to have him as a father. Thanks Dad...

Message: John Crotty...Charlie, Ed Strange and I want to add our good wishes to you during your recovery. In earlier years, it was so easy to take good health for granted. It just seems that things come out of nowhere anymore. Take the time to get strong and make sure you follow doctor's orders even as you research their advice. There has been a Cougar sighting up here at the end of the world. Ed Strange ('69) was picking up some plants at a local nursery called the Basket Case and as he was chatting with one of the owners, Hawthorne came up. The person he was talking to was Nancy Stones ('66). It is always such a surprise to run across a Cougar! For all you car buffs...Sept 12 & 13 is the Annual Rod Run up here in the Pacific Northwest. The Beach Barons' Car Club puts on this event and several hundred cars converge on the area annually. It is a lot of fun...lots of Beach Boys' music and cool cars (1973 or older). There is more info at
beachbarons.com. If you make it up here, stop by the Little Brown House on Bay (with the large red barn in the back). It's right down the road from the run and that's where Charlie and I live. Eddie is just down the street towards the beach.
