Message: I just wanted to comment that I spent last saturday surrounded by Cougars! In the morning I ran into Dan Dye at Pacific Sales. Always a pleasure to see Dan as he is one of my all-time sports heroes from Hawthorne! As of this year Dan has held the varsity shot put record at HHS for 46 years!! A true Cougar stud! I spent saturday evening at the L. A. coliseum watching my USC Trojans stomp on helpless Notre Dame. I was flanked on my right by my brother Ray Millman(71) and on my left by Terry Flippin(71). Cougars always add to the fun!
Hey Clark, I agree, Dan is a solid "top of the line" Cougar, in more ways than the shot put. Thanks for the update and the Cougar Sighting.

So we have some really outstanding people from Hawthorne. Ted & Dana have some great accomplishments between them. I hope everyone is well.
Thanks Dennis....

Message: Chris and anyone else who might be looking for gag gifts that aren't totally useless. There is a site called www.paverpolusa.com that makes art work out of items that might be found around the house along with their kits. Or there's www.ilovechickenpoop.com (think Bert's Bee's with a twist) www.plaidponyvintage.com seems to specialize in kitschty one to the site gifts, www.scrubyourbutt.com will probably bring a smile to anyone who ever met a hippie. Hope some of these get you off to a good start.

Message: Thanks Cougs for all the Birthday Greetings and Well Wishes. A good time to be 53...Hope all had a funfilled turkey day. My sons and I went down to the Wedge and body boarded for a couple of hours. Good waves, 3-5, lots of great rides and some soreness. I have to remember I'm 53 and not 23. Mike Huhn, good to hear from you and to see your son is carrying on the No. 11 tradition!Good Luck to him. Enza, if we knew then what we know now...Holy Cow there would be lots of I told you so's and oh no's to content with...JB, maybe some of the old Cougs should take part in an alumni day prior to the first football practice of the season and assist in creating the Cougar Tradition of winning! Mater Dei, Edison, and a few other schools have their alumni players/coaches come back for a meet and greet with the players and talk about expectations on teams past. Might help!! What's on your Christmas Lists???
Thanks Wade, Maybe our Alumni Association could get that going.

Message: Boy did that picture of the little Honda 50(I think it was called the "mini-trail") bring back memories! I got one at around my 10th b-day. It was really fun. We used to drive it up and down my driveway for hours - I'm sure pissing off the neighbors. Then one day, Mike Dowell came over and tried it for the first time and could not figure out the brakes and drove it into the wall of our garage, bending the front forks back towards the engine. It was never the same. I wish I kept it, bent forks and all, but traded it for a Honda 90... Great memories!

Message: Remember spending hours and hours with the Sears catalog writing and re-writing lists of what you wanted for Christmas? I could easily fill up a couple of pages of notebook paper. Probably front AND back... ahh sweet dreams of youth. I don't know how mom and dad did it, with 3 kids and one income, but I cannot ever recall being disappointed on Christmas morning. Oh, except the one year that we decided to open presents on Christmas eve... then Christmas morn was kind of sad. Guess we learned our lesson because I can only remember that happening once. BEST Christmas ever- sixth grade, blue Honda 50 and riding boots... now 40 years later I am again coveting a motorcycle... gee, will Santa, or won't he??? Guess that depends, was I naughty enough?
I do not remember blue Honda 50s.

Game tonight at 9pm and saturday at noon, I don't think the team will play in the finals. I'll have to watch SC play on a non-Hi-Def TV in the bar...Set'em up and Fight-On!!!!
NON-HI-DEF TV!?!? I watch all my games on my 16in rabbit eared Sony Trinitron. Football ain't football without snow.

Message: Happy Thanksgiving from a land far far away! Of course, Thanksgiving isn?t celebrated here and we normally just let it pass by with almost no thought unless we?re invited to some embassy function. However, this year we?re having a few friends over and we?re having turkey this evening. So, I?m in the mood to wish you all happy times. Enjoy a good belch after it?s all over. Thanks also to Paco for the pictures this month. I really got a kick out of them, but I have a hard time recognizing people. Have a wonderful day. Jim Peppers
Hi Jim, Happy Turkey day to you and yours. Have a shot of Ouzo for me, willya'?

Message: Happy Thanksgiving JB...and to all the other Cougars out there as well. Well, it is here again. That time of year when we sit down without families (biological and/or chosen) and gorge upon a feast until we need to unbutton our jeans and snooze on the couch. Thanksgiving officially launches what people refer to as "The Holiday Season" which typically means it is the beginning of what is often the most stressful time of the year. My daughter is getting married one month from today...so I guess that could be a little stressful. But seriously, today is a chance to be with the people you care about. It's just a meal. It is not a contest nor is it a measure of your personal worth. Lives do not hang in the balance. So, take the pressure off yourself! If you're hosting the meal, nothing has to be perfect. No one really cares and if someone is that filled with criticism, it is their issue, not yours; chances are nothing you do could please them anyway.
P.S. Ahh yes - Glasswax stencils on the windows! I remember that. And after Christmas was over my brother and I would write our names in them with our fingers before my Mom cleaned them all off. Good memory JTC...almost forgot about that one.
Hey Anita, Well happy Thanksgiving to you too. Have a great day and congrats to your daughter.

Message: Hey Wade, Happy Birthday Buddy! Sorry its taken so long to write in to C-Town. I was enjoying the Sooners BIG WIN and lost track of time. Happy Thanksgiving to all, I miss the Friday after Thanksgiving day "Mud Bowl" on Halcap field. We sure had great times playing in the mud. And you never changed the plays I think Colet and Manos did it while they were bringing them into the huddle, at least thats what I kept telling Otto. LOL... J.B. you take care and have a good turkey day.
Hey Kirk, You do the same and thanks for the shout.

Message: I was looking through an old photo album that I started when I was a kid. I used the normal 4 corner adhesive place holders for the photos and wrote down a little description of the picture. I came across a photo from Thanksgiving 1969 that unfortunately has failed the test of time as it was a Polaroid. There were my sisters; Debbie - Class of ?69, Barbara - Class of ?71 myself and my Great-Grandmother Pearl Weaver who was 88 years old at the time. She passed in 1973 at the age of 92. After having worked on my family genealogy in recent years it?s kinda weird to think that we remember so clearly people who were born in my great-grandmothers case in 1881. I also well remember my great-grandfather who was born in 1873 and died in 1964. Geez! He just missed being born during the Civil War by around 10 years and I remember him! If you think about it, we thought WWII was ancient history, kids today think Viet Nam was ancient history, and their kids might think the same way about Iraq (hopefully we?ll be out of there by then). Thanksgiving is about history and tradition and can perhaps be a vehicle to pass knowledge to the younger generations in the hopes of keeping the tradition alive in this increasingly ?wired? world where personal contact is diminishing. It?s a shame that the Christmas stuff was in the stores even before Halloween. I hate the fact that Thanksgiving is being pushed aside for more "profitable" holidays. Keep Thanksgiving alive!
I think most of us that are into our lineage have thought in those terms. My great-grandmother, Maria Caroline Baker was born in 1848; James Polk was President. She was 17 years old when Lincoln was assassinated and didn't live to see the outcome of WWI. I do remember my great-grandfather, Henry O'Bannion (mom's grand father), born in 1869 during Ulysses S Grant's term and passing away in 1963, before the JFK assassination. It wasn't that long ago, was it?

Message: JIMBO, I can laugh at your comments about my turkey, as it sets the scene of a older brother dominance over his younger sibling. However since we are all Seniors here at CT, (That is correct isn?t JB?) I was wondering if you can remember, Jimbo, when or how old I was when I flipped your paddy little ass? I think I was about 11. :0). One other thing Jimbo?.. WE all told Wade not to listen to OTTO. Now back to the turkey stories.
Ah Bill, you're being too nice. I heard that the last time Jimbo had you flat on the floor, you were 3.

Message: Wade, Wade, Wade, did they have to call the Fire Department for all the candles on your b-day cake? Kidding aside, I hope you had a great day! When you see your mom, tell her Hi for me, OK? She was the sweetest dental assistant for Dr. Johnson, DDS, and took care of all the Nicocia kids. Regarding Thanks Giving: All you Cougars out there traveling near and far be very careful. I dread getting on the freeways at holiday time. So many crazies drinking and driving. I would much rather gather friends and spend the day cooking and enjoying the day 'simply'...rather than all the hoopla that goes along with HUGE(dysfuntional??) family gatherings. And when my folks where alive, that meant at least 25 people...AND that was just the IMMEDIATE family! Uncles/Aunts & Cousins ALL lived in Sicily, (My Grandparents died before I was born.) Altough, I do miss my mom's non traditional holiday meals. Bless her heart, she would have the traditional turkey, but put a Sicilian twist to it w/the side dishes. Bread stuffing??..I never heard of it until I moved out on my own & made it myself! Food was not scarce at ANY of our family get togethers. I think I missed out on the 'skinny' gene that my sister Annie & Maria have. Everyone else is "Healthy & big boned??", meaning we would survive a week or two w/out food lost in the mountains...ha! Happy Turkey Day everyone!...we have lots to be thankful for. Oh, btw...whoose gonna win "Dancing With The Stars" tonight? I'm rooting for Brook, she's is amazing! Any thoughts?
Who lost the food in the mountains?
