Message: Hey, JB LOL; Knowing John Nix (Brother-in-law) & Dennis Campbell, who I also know well, they are are enjoying a great cruise with their better halfs. The girls are probably in shopping in the dress shop behind them & Dennis is pointing to a bar upstairs from where they are standing. That's just an educated guess. As far as the dummy hanging behind them, that could be a replica of one of many we all went to school with. Jorge
Have a great cruise guys and bring me the ears of the bull.

Message: Thank you to all of my fellow Cougars who downloaded THE EIGHT- FINGERED CRIMINAL'S SON. The actual book with pages and everything will be available soon. I'll keep you posted. Good to hear the Cougars handled the Monarchs last week. There is a story in the book about a basketball game 30 some odd years ago in which the Cougars did not handle the Monarchs.
And someone didn't handle Byron Scott either Thanks Bill, looking forward to the paper book.

Message: Took my 19 yr old son to see the Traveling Vietnam War Memorial this afternoon. It is in Kingman for 4 days. We paid homage to all, but stopped for a time at Panel 39E to see Tim Thomas' name, then to Panel 37W to see Lynn Matteson's name. I don't think my son understood why I was so quiet. We talked a little about it, but it's hard to explain how we felt. I will gratefully welcome home all returning soldiers this holiday season.
In my opinion the traveling wall is just as sobering as the real one.

Message: My wife and I flew in to visit our son in Toluca Lake and we decided to surprise Chuck Wigley class of 64 at Delzano's By the Sea in Redondo Beach last night. He assists the great musical duo Andy and Renee. They play most every Friday night there and Chuck is always there as well. Great food, wine, and music. I guess that does not count as a Cougar sighting.
Hi Leo, No but it does count as getting together with your Cougar buddy. Glad you had a fun night.

Message: The passing of Gary Beaird was a very unpleasant experience for me. In that we have been friends going back to playing Pop Warner football when we were in junior high school. Gary was the quarterback that called the signals, my brother Bill was an interior lineman and I was an offensive end. Things did not change when we started Hawthorne High in the fall of 1965. Everyday for next 4 years after classes we were on some practice field or at a game. When we were sophomores we played John Muir of Pasadena in the Rose Bowl before the varsity game, we were thrilled out of our minds. We always laughed about playing before 102,000, empty seats. Our junior year we played varsity baseball for Coach Semon, a man I deeply respect. That year our team won the 16 team Hawthorne Easter Tournament, becoming the first Hawthorne team to win it. On our way to victory we eliminated 2 teams that went to the semi finals in C.I.F. baseball that year. In our senior year we had a very representive football team. We had players off that team that played at El Camino,Cal, U.C.L.A., U.S.C., Trinity, Utah State, Stanford, and Nebraska. Gary Beaird was the Most Valuable player of that team. For those that knew the Beaird Family there was always room for one more. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Beaird fostered an environment that was always filled with love and kindness, no matter what they had, they shared with others. Gary was a true representation of his parents. He cared deeply for his children, his grandchildren, his relatives and his friends. My condolences go out to the entire Beaird Family. For those of us that knew Gary, we will carry him in our heart forever.

Message: 42-7 another win for Hawthorne not so much in the game of football but in the game of life. Congrats to Coach for putting two unwillings on the bench, as he has laid it down that no one wins by cutting corners, and nothing comes before ethics, hardwork and discipline, Ok you 2 guys get over it and get back in the game, Life is ahead of you and what you do on the field rolls over for what you do off the field. Good Job Coach you did right and with your great support the Cougars are coming back. JB I am trying to find the note by Gail Beaird Oliver on Gary Beaird's Memorial this coming Saturday No luck can you advice? Bill
I don't know anything either, Bill. Gail, can you give us an update?

Message: Attended the homecoming game last friday and had an enjoyable evening. It's interesting to see how HHS has evolved in many aspects. You don't have to be a football fan to enjoy homecoming once a year! I enjoyed the game sitting with my now "long-time" friend Dan Dye. I got to know Lee Leonard and enjoyed seeing other alumni. The cheerleaders couldn't possibly do the old "We got spirit yes we do" yell because Beverly Hills only had about fifty fans. Beverly Hills was the better team last friday and trounced us 42-7. Homecoming is a social event for alumni and a good excuse once a year to return to HHS. I really enjoyed when they put a medley of the Beach Boys on the loud speakers at half time. I thought Karen Fraser was going to jump out of her clothes as all alumni started rocking out in the stands to the sounds of our day. I hope to see a larger group of alumni next year.

Message: Per the Daily Breeze, HHS coach Kanach did not allow QB Rickie Calderon and RB Isaiah Brame to play in the Homecoming game against Beverly Hills because of “rules violations”. That no doubt had something to do with the final score. Although this is disappointing, it’s good to see that the coach is enforcing standards of discipline on the team which should pay off in the long run for all concerned.

Message: Hey, JB; I think there's a little difference between an ass whippin and a hickup. However, on the up side, the team is doing pretty good stat wise in the win loss column, hopefully they didn't play all the easy teams on the front side of the schedule and this loss will make the want to winn the rest of their scheduled games, however many they have left. Message: Hey there all you Cougars! I wish I could go to the homecoming game. Sounds like great fun! On another note, I am currently teaching sixth grade language arts, and I have assigned my students a 'book in a bag' book report. Students have to decorate a lunch sack, then place 8 items in the bag that represent elements of the story. They take out each item and explain its significance. I need to make a sample report, and I am going to do it on The Eight Fingered Criminal's Son by Billy Snyder!!! I wanted to visit here again to say, Download it, all you Cougars! But ONLY if you need some good belly laughs. Thanks for the material for my report, Billy! I hope everyone reads your book, then recommends it to friends.
Hi Mandy, Great book indeed and good luck with your sample report.

Message: Okay, I went to amazon and found TEFCS on-line. However, I don't have a kindle and I'm not a techy. Can I download it to my computer and read it? Sorry, us old gals used typewriters and learned to type and do our shorthand from Miss. Roth. Computers weren't even on the horizon in the regular world. I'm lucky I can post on CT. Point, click, and type are my limitations.
Too hi tech for me....try it.
