Message: 8 a.m. Maui time: Rick Gerend asked if anyone remembered him. Nope, I don't. He didn't live on 120th St, did he? Nice kid, gorgeous mom, beautiful sis? Nah! Didn't his dad have a cool job with Edison? Still doesn't ring a bell. Hmmm. Was his standard Poodle named "Boots?" Still nothing. Did he run with a gang in white outfits with Chevron emblems? Woody McCain, Scaff, Parisi, Penner, Paul Clark & Satter? Wrong guy, huh? (Who'd I leave out?) Those were the guys who let me use the hoist to change my oil and fixed flats for us on Friday nights before the parties started. Heck! Visiting the Standard station by Holly's WAS the party with that group! I think of those guys every time I need to work on our cars! Sorry Rick. Looks like you've been forgotten. Maybe someone out there in "Bakerville,CT." remembers you! Good luck! Hope you're well! Gotta run before the winter surf gets up today and I get slammed! Jim
Rick, I think you've found a long lost friend

Message: I have a thought. Just a thought, mind you. Also, I would not want to be part of the organizing board, because I'm just not that good at that stuff any more. Anyway, here is the plan: Hawthorne, Leuzinger, and Morningside High Schools all have websites that are maintained by past students. What if we had another all year reunion with Hawthorne, Leuzinger and Morningside High Schools? Maybe Lawndale High if there is any way to contact them. I know, I'm big talk/no action. Let's face it, a lot of us had a lot of friends that went to these schools too. I just found an old friend on Morningside's site. Don't kill me or kick me off the site, John. It's just a thought. The older I get, the weirder the thoughts.
Well it's a thought.....

Message: Hey John, don't know if this qualifies as a Cougar sighting but my wife and i were at Bruce Hoover's(61) and his wife Donna's(Morningside'62) house for new years. Two other old Cougars were there. Richard Thomas('62) and his wife Claudia(Morningside '63) and Richie Tews('61) and his wife Joyce. Failed to get her h.s. or year. I play golf with Richard occasionally, but hadn't seen Richie in 25 or 30 years. He looks great and is doing well.
Hey Dennis, Well that IS a Cougar Sighting. I haven't seen Richie, Bruce, or Richard since our HHS days. Glad they're still out and about and Bruce just added his email address a few days ago. Maybe you need to round all those guys up and bringem to Cruise Night in March. Would be great to see all of them again. Thanks Dennis for the sighting.

Message: Hello All HHS grads! Happy New Year ! I graduated in 73. And I've been trying to solve this riddle but can't seem to get the answer, my mother was Barbara Prevost-King. Barb passed away a few yrs back, but she left me with a mystery that no one will help me with. That is the identity of my biological father. I have searched and asked and begged anyone and everyone to help me solve it but in 54 yrs and of that, the last 36 yrs actively looking for the answer. Everyone is dead now my adoptive Dad as well, If anyone knew Barbara or knew the names of any of her close friends please share that information with me. Or if you perhaps have pieces of the puzzle that you care to share please email me back with the information. It would be the best Christmas present and the Happiest New Year ever for me.Cheers All Debbie
Hi Debbie, Your mom was in the class of 55 at HHS. Good luck and do hope someone knows something.

Message: Happy New Year John and CT! I was thinking about Allie's last night as a 9-year old when she was very thoughtful. She explained that "this is the last night as a 'single-digit' person. From tomorrow on I will be at least two digits! "Last night was our last night as a 'single-digit' world!! I now really know how she felt... CT - stay young, stay healthy and be happy!!
Hey Patty, When my grandson Cory turned 10 he said he is now a "two digit midget" and so are you, Allie. Happy New Year.

Message: Thank you everyone for the Happy Birthday emails. I want to say I am very very sorry to hear about Greg Sutton. The Sutton family and ours were good friends. Mr. Sutton worked where my dad did and after a visit to there cabin in Running Springs my parents got one up there. Greg was a great guy. I feel bad that I haven't kept in contact like I should hare with them. I had no idea about Greg being sick. I have been in contact with Jeff every now and then. His parents are the nicest people there can be. I am so sorry they have to go through this. I am hoping I can muster up enough courage to call them. I have never been very good with things like this.

I hope everyone has a safe New Years Eve and that all your football teams win on New Years Day! John, thanks again for all you do year round. Without you, well, can't even go there. I'm sorry to hear about Greg Sutton, I knew him in school, not well, but it is always sad to hear about a fallen classmate. Take care everyone, and we will see you next year!

Message: Bob, thank you for the article. I find it very credible. My sister, Sheila, was a teacher for 30 years. She was also an official California Mentor Teacher. After 30 years she retired, not because she was tired of teaching. She retired because of administrative politics. Teachers keep getting the blame for low test scores, drop out rate, blah, blah, blah. It is my opinion that the real problem lies within the school district administration. There is a lot of back biting to get ahead with administrators not really caring about the kids. For the most part the frontline, the teachers, are the ones who care about the kids. My sister spent a great deal of her own money so that her students could have the supplies and books they needed. For most of her teaching career she sold real estate so that she could give back more to her students. She was not alone, many teachers spend their own funds to help their students succeed. Just my own opinion on what I have viewed. Go ahead let me have it if you are an administrator and feel differently.

Message: Some of you may know our good friend.... Jodi Tamburrino Milam is in the battle of her life. The fun loving vivacious person we all love is dealing with Gastric Cancer (stomach cancer). It's a disease that takes no prisoners, but Jodi has given her all and has shown strength beyond anything I've ever seen. I got to spend some time with her up in San Francisco last week. The courage she shows to her friends and family, always with a smile and something funny to end the conversation with, was amazing to me. I'm in awe of her attitude and how much she is loved by all who know her. But what brings the biggest smile to Jodi's face is Janelle, her two year old granddaughter. Jodi has two sons Gilbert and Matthew. She is the little sister to Bill and Steve Tamburrino. If any of you would like to share your support, words of wisdom and encouragement, or would just like to reach out to her, she can be reached at her email address www.careerwave@yahoo.com Jodi and I have remained Friends since the 9th grade at good old Hawthorne High. I love and admire her and am so happy that she gets to spend the time with her family this holiday season she has hoped for. Fondly, Dori Gestone Giuliano
Thanks for the heads up Dori. I'm sure Jodi has lots of Cougar friends that would love to send her a note. Get well Jodi, we're all praying for your full recovery.
