Message: Keith: My wife has had Vertigo for several years now and takes Antivert as a prescription medicine. Once, two years ago, while in Oregon it hit her. She called her doctor in OC and she told her to get Bonine (a sea sickness drug like Dramamine) and double the recommended dosage. It knocked it right out of her. She has used it on a couple of other occasions as well. Might help, but you need to see the doctor too.

Message: Hey Keith, I too have vertigo... A couple years ago I was sitting on the floor playing with my daughter and went to lay down and the room started spinning. It was the worst feeling in the world. You just want to throw up, you can't really walk, even sitting down you slightly turn your head and everything starts spinning. Unfortunatly the only thing doctors can do is treat it with antihistamines (Zyrtec, benadyrl, etc,) I was in a motorcycle accident the year before and had a major major concussion (not to mention road rash) and thought maybe that had something to do with it, but the doctors said no... If you haven't already you really should go see a doctor, just to rule anything else out.

Message: Wow, what interesting stories I missed while I was on vacation the last two weeks. First, I heard the same thing about using a Wal-mart parking lot, but didn't use one. I did use rest area's and RV parks. Went to Los Vegas (2 nights), Palm Springs (2 nights), Hawthorne (3 nights), then back up the coast on 101 to the top of Oregon. Second, for hero's from Hawthorne, Britt Stonebraker's Dad, was our Scout leader, a motorcycle cop, and later I heard, was Chef of our Hawthorne Police Department. Is that true Britt? Sorry I didn't extend the trip Britt, too much driving, AND HOT. Even here today was 99. Third, even though we don't get along, Bruce Salisbury, a little guy C/O 68, still held the record of the 880 and the 440, in the locker room records when I left HHS in 75. Fourth, I had a little inside information about Mrs. Rose and her airplane crash. She had come over to our home one night after her crash into the roof of a home near where I believe John Baker lived at one time, near York Ave. She explained it to this child (me) at the time. She was signing documents for my sister to gether pilots license that night. She said "she was training a man that day, that didn't have both of his arm's, in a twin engine, when during take off he had pulled" something I can't quite remember, on the throttle of one of the engines. She said she made a quick decision to do a belly flop on a soft roof top (true story). So, the one armed man did it (joke). Also, I had started to get my pilots license at 12 years old (1969) at Rose Aviation, documented in the Northrop news as the youngest student pilot (at the time). Keith, go to a doctor anyway, it's just good maintenance, and I like your longer post's. H1 and Clark, glad you're both better, and still funny! So many great people here on CT with so many great memories, you all make both of my brain cell's work over time. Thanks John Baker.
Hi Rick, Glad you're back and thanks very much for the Hawthorne stories.

Message: The Class of '72 had Jim Valentine. Movie Maker. He made a movie about Hang Gliding back in school and also worked, consulted, on a movie about the Wright Brothers in the late 70's. He would be a non-athlete in the Hall of Fame catagory. HHS has had a number of alumni work for the motion picture industry in many capacities. Gary and Bill Beard, Rick Carden, Don Pike, Keith, and others. There is also the music industry, aside from the Beach Boys. How many Cougars went to Woodstock? It's the 40th Anniversary of Peace, Love, & Music Aug 15,16,17, 18. How many people remember the Fish Cheer, by Country Joe Macdonald?
Thanks Wade...

Message: "The rattlesnake sunk its fangs into both dogs. The four hour ride back to Las Vegas to find medical care was filled with panic and uncertainty." This few lines are from a story that was in are paper yesterday. The Veterinarians are recommending four viles of anti-venom for each dog. Just one vile can run a price tag of up to 1,700 dollars. The owner of the dogs have spent $8,000 dollars all ready. Wow! I'm glad I have insurance, get bitten by a snake can be one exspensive bite!I just remembered, didn't Keith Jones get bit my a "Brown Recluse?"

Message: Nice to see a post from Jim Cherry, although not under the best of circumstances. I was a freshman in '64 when Jim & Jerry Bierman were seniors. I was in a weightlifting class(using the old 40 lb coffee cans). Jim & Jerry were avid weightlifters & I always marveled at their diligence & dedication. When I got involved in Doc Duran's weightlifting program, during those moments when I thought I couldn't do one more rep, either Jim or Jerry (or both) would pop into my head. I remember when these 2 SENIORS would encourage this FRESHMAN to do "just one more." Because of those 2 guys, among others along the way, I always gave it a shot...always made the attempt to do the very best I could, not just in weightlifting, but in everything. I'm sure everyone @ HHS had some inspirational heroes from upper classes. Those were just 2 that I recall. Thanks Jim & Jer'!

Message: Has anyone on CT been bitten by a rattlesnake? I was up in the mountains south of Yosemite on June 18th and was hit in the leg. I ended up in a hospital in Fresno. I only stayed 3 or 4 hours. The cost to receive the antivenom was going to exceed $70,000.00. Having no health insurance I had to decline. Most of the discomfort has gone but some swelling still remains. Anyway, I appreciate an e-mail from anyone with rattlesnake experience. PS, It was the most pain I have ever experienced.
Good Luck Jim...

Message: Hey Kell...... Robert "BeeBop" Hegg also played football and basketball. BeeBop, Rod Blair and I were known as the "little three" our freshman year on the C basketball team coached by Lou Jones. Beebop and I ran track our freshman year and we played football together throughout high school. He was an accomplished athlete in all three, but I think he could make the hall of fame as one of our class' real characters. He was a very unique guy.....

Message: Smart person story; in "63 we had two girls that tied for smartest in the class. Corliss Moylan was one of the girls. We were in a science class studing mutations. Mr Kyllonen brought in a chicken that had two regular legs with two small legs directly behind. Corliss was asked what was wrong with the chicken. The answer she gave was the back legs were too short. Now this was a very bright girl who later worked in the space program and bought property in Manhattan Beach. Corliss would not admit to the story but finally at our 45th reunion she finally admitted it happened.
Great story Gar', thanks.....

Message: Wow! I can't believe how many people emailed me or put suggestions on my Facebook. Thank you very much. Saturday was definitely different. Spent about 30+ hours in bed. Had to get up to go to the bathroom only and that was pretty funny. Sunday I felt a ton better and was asked to go to brunch, but when I stood up was still a bit shaky. So I rested and finally got downstairs later in the afternoon. This morning I don't feel a thing. I did take a Dramamine and a Benedryl. Not sure if that helped or it just passed with time. Scared me a bit because it never happened to me before. I was thinking brain tumor or stroke. I just want to thank my Cougartown family. Dean who was one of my childhood idols gave me alot of suggestions and comments.

Message: Hey Keith, I had a similar experience. I would sit up in bed and not even realizing it, I would simply fall sideways. I couldn't walk without falling down. I got a ride to the Dr. and this was attributed to an inner ear infection. Antibiotics took care of it but it WAS scary while it was happening! I'm told that once you get an inner ear infection, it can become recurring. Good Luck!

Message: Hi Keith,I have Labrythinitis, an inflammation of the inner ear, which gives me the same symtoms. I've had it since I was little and only had a name put to it in recent years. It comes and goes, usually lasting only a day of two, although it has lasted as long as two months. The Dr. prescribed Meclizine, which did nothing. The only thing I have found to help is Benadryl. I would try this or Dramamine and see if that helps. Good luck.

Message: Keith, I have had vertigo for about three years, when it first started it scared the crap out of me, I immediately went to the emergency room, they said that my symptoms were those of a stroke, after they did a MRI and saw no evidence of stroke they determined it was vertigo, I have been dealing with it ever since, it is much better now. I don?t usually give medical advice but this time I will, you need to get to a hospital right away and have it checked out. Cindy
