Message: To Greg Jones and Alan Nelson ... regarding Jon Wilhite, his father Tony, etc. I've met the Wilhites a few times while following CSU Fullerton baseball. My brother Geno, HHS '74 and CSUF grad, knows the Wilhites well. FYI, FOX Sports just ran a 2-part video on the Adenhart accident / Wilhite saga which is incredibly inspirational. If you'll send your email address to skipeffler@gmail.com, I will forward the video to you or anyone else interested.

Message: A pack of Cougars were sited at Bart Graves' golf & horseshoe tournament which produced guest appearances by Schroeder, Young, Lassiter, R. Clark, P. Clark, Borland, Pitts, Petlon, Fox, Patrusco, Frasier, Skaff, R. Davidson, a phone call from Bruce Davidson, my brother Mike, and many others. A fabulous time ... even though Parisi won again! We all reminisced about baseball, surfing, cars, football, surfing, families, basketball, surfing, music, health issues, surfing, and why so few of us can retire. Oh yeah, we played golf, tipped a number of brews, and laughed like h***!! It's terrific re-connecting with Cougs ... so much so that Mike will visit Schroeder and Young in Medford this weekend as part of a modified dirt-car racing trip to Oregon. Happy 4th to all !!!
Hey Skip, sounds like a REALLY great time. That's what it's all about, man. . . .thanks

Message: Thanks Alan. I got it confirmed last night after submitting to C-Town. The former president of Aviation Little League is married to a former player from Costa who we played against and she informed me of such. Still a sad situation but at least he's recovering quickly. Thanks again to you and Sue.

Message: I have a question that maybe Wade or any other ball player from '73 can answer. The kid that was injured when Nick Adenhart of the Angels died, Jon Wilhite, didn't his Dad or other relative play ball at Costa the same year? It's been bugging me for a while because the name, Wilhite, sounds so familiar. The Dads name is Tony and seems to me that he made all league. Maybe ya'll can help me out on this. As they say, the mind's the first thing to go and I can't remember the rest.

Message: A hearty congratulations to 2009 HHS graduate Alex Garcia, my grand-nephew and grandson of Bob Smith ('64) and Linda Young Smith (67). I actually didn't realize he was going to Hawthorne until I got the announcement. I think he told me last summer, but it was at my mother's funeral and didn't really register. Again, congrats, Alex!
Congratulations Alex, and to all the Class of 2009.

Message: From Rick Weaver: You've been in NorCal for a long time right? Didn't you go to UC Davis? My nephew is starting there in the fall. Take care, it's good to hear from you. Hi Rick. Yes, went to UCD, took 3 degrees, was in private practice for many years, and 10 years ago returned to UCD as staff veterinarian and clinical faculty. I do miss the weather in S. Calif. My wife (Laurette, El Segundo '74) sill misses the beach. Feel free to give your nephew my name, if I can help him in some way I would be pleased to do so. He can find my contact info in the campus directory. Bill
Hi Bill, I know you're new here, so please just email the person you want to talk with personally. Being new, you probably didn't know that this Feedback page is for messages to the masses. Thanks very much.

Message: Sky Saxon doesn't perform anymore. See posts further down. Speaking of music, a bunch of friends and I had a marathon exchange of 1967 music via YouTube last night and I was surprised that some living in New York at the time never heard of such songs as "Sunshine Girl" by The Parade. Likewise, some of the music the Easterners listened to were unfamiliar to me. It seems that some Top 40 songs were just played regionally.

Message: Hi Bill Ferrier - welcome to Cougartown! Yep, the last time we saw each other I think we were in the jacuzzi at the Manhattan Beach Marriott for the multi-year reunion. I was living in MB then, but 3 years ago decided to make a lifestyle change and finish raising the kids in a different environment. New Hampshire is COMPLETELY different in just about every way! For the first time, we've experienced four real seasons (not the 1.5 seasons in the South Bay), although summer seems to be the shortest. We miss SoCal and may return some day, but for now, NH is home. You've been in NorCal for a long time right? Didn't you go to UC Davis? My nephew is starting there in the fall. Take care, it's good to hear from you.

Message: First, I have an over-due Cougar sighting with a little story. A couple of months ago I asked my brother to come to my grandsons track meet at Edison High School in HB. I was pointing out the coaches and said about one, "That's Derek Harrison, the head coach." Before I finished my sentence, Newell called out to Derek, and the two of them were shaking hands! Derek attended HHS his freshman and sophomore years before moving on to Mira Costa. I was already away at college so I didn't know Derek from high school. Derek has had a long career in education, even was the principal at Leuzinger at one time. Maybe some other Cougars out there remember him. Second, Henry Fritz, a long-time family friend, HHS class of 1967 passed away on June 16. My brother and I have known Henry for about 25 years. We had known him for about 5 years when we started talking about where we had gone to high school and we found out Henry was also a Cougar. He had a very successful business building and repairing microscopes. Henry leaves two sons who are both Long Beach police officers. We are still mourning his loss.
Hi Maurine, Well great Cougar Sighting. Thanks for that one and very sorry to hear we lost another Alumnus and thanks very much for letting Henry's friends know.

Message: We wanted to say a couple of things about the Teen Challenge Car Show on July 11th. It is a great show now going on several years. It gets bigger and better each year. A real community event and definitely a good cause. The last two years they have had a terrific band which plays everything from Doo Wop on. Lots of raffles, vendors, etc. Our homeowners group will be selling sodas and water so come on down and give your support. Hope to see a lot of Cougars there.
I'll be there for sure. See you on July 11th

Message: Good for you Neil! As I recall, Don DiTomasso had a series of photos of the monument, up close and personal and I think you did too, John, from the dedication day. Are those still somewhere on the web? While the site may not seem so special to outsiders, those of us who grew up there can recall what the area was like before the freeway took out part of the neighborhood, and specifically their home. A visit to the site brings it all back. Next time you're "home" for a visit Cougars, stop by and see the memorial. The bricks which comprise the structure were donated by various donors and they are inscribed with their names or messages. Thanks John and Cougartown for spearheading that particular campaign which helped in a big way to providing the necessary funding for the project. Without those contributions, the monument may never have been realized.
Yes there were pictures of dedication day on this site. I guess I should reprise them. Thanks too, to all our Cougartowners for making lots of things happen; the Sports program at HHS, the Beach Boys Monument, Nyman Hall restoration, etc. Without our Alumni who knows how things would've turned out.

Message: Like Paul Harvey used to say..."Just what, not why." Here is a short video I shot of the Beach Boys Landmark- Whenever I search the net, there is never a good video of the place - So if anyone is interested ...It's not much but at least it is better than NOTHING...PS I happened to bump into one of the Song Queens from 1970/71 while I was in town, Miss C.A. you made the long journey more memorable. Everyone have a splendid Fourth of July.
Thanks Neil, for the video, but you could have gotten a closeup of our Cougartown bricks.

Message: Everytime I type in Zaccaglin into google, this page appears in my search. I went to elementary school in Hawthorne from 1980-1987. I had a really good friend named Dena Zaccaglin. She had a twin brother named Dean. I think about her often because we had so much fun together. Suddenly, she moved and I never saw her again. I'm wondering if any of the Zaccaglins mentioned here are related to her? If anyone knows anything and feels comfortable sharing with me, I would really appreciate it.Thanks!Menal
Hey Menal, Yes ALL the Zaccaglins here are related. Hope you hear something.

Message: Mike, I don't know if they ever lived in Hawthorne, but the lead guitarist of the LA based Strawberry Alarm Clock, Ed King of Glendale, went on to write and play on one of the greatest anthems of the 1970s. After leaving the psychedelic LA band, King joined Lynard Skynard. I think it was 1966 or so when I went with my family to the White Front down on Hawthorne Blvd, and there was a band playing out in the Parking lot. Some unknown group called the "Seeds", with the lead singer Sky Saxon tossing 45s of "Pushin' Too Hard" out to the small crowd that had gathered. I wish I still had that copy. Rest in Peace, Sky.
