Message: I was 15 years old when I bought my first car for $75. It was a '51 Chevy two door with a blown transmission. Only 2 door cars were cool in those days, unless your name was Zeke Montanez. My uncle told me how to pull the transmission but he didn't help me. It took me two weeks to replace it, mainly because he told me I had to drop the rear-end. I found out later that that wasn't necessary. It wasn't very long that the engine went out. Again, he didn't help me but just told me what to do. Eventually Alan Hauge painted it with scallops and added "Sex Banger" (six cylinder) to the rear fenders, which I regretted later. I eventually traded it for a '40 Ford coupe with an early olds engine that needed to be rewired. I got my friend Wayne Brasheres(?) to help me get it going. After a rain shower I had Gene Gutierrez with me one day going South on Hawthorne Blvd. when I lost control and hit two cars in front of a bar in Lennox. Sold the '40 for scrap and bought another one with a built up flathead. The engine was bad so I put a large '57 Olds Engine in it. The yellow '40 had a good size dent in the right, front fender so I went to Ford Obsolete to buy another one. They wanted $25 for a fender that turned out to be from my old '40. Before I went into the Navy I sold it to Robin Petty and is now Dan Petty's awesome, '40 Ford that he brought to Cruise Night not long ago.
Great car story there Jim, and a great 40 that's still cruising the Blvd.

Message: Ginny & I invited Royal (61) & Pat Lord over for dinner & to watch the World Series. Anyone who knows Royal Lord can appreciate his comment... His favorite two teams are the Dodgers and anyone playing the Giants.... After living in Northern California since 1970, I still am a Dodger fan but if the Giants are in the World Series, I'm cheering for them... So as you can image, we had quite a fun night when the Giants won 5-0 over KC... Royal's new favorite team... until next year when he will revert back to bleeding Dodger blue.... Until then... Go Giants...
Royal's pulling for the Royals? Who would have thought it
Thanks Mike

Message: Cougar sighting. Today was the final good-bye to a wonderful Cougar, Mr. George Key. He touched the lives of so many. I will always be grateful for his direction in my life. Today taught me that he was a man of deep faith in Jesus. A man who loved The Lord and who wanted to be used by HIM. That you were! I am certain that many prayers were said for us by this man of faith. Got to see several Cougars today. Nice to see you Patty, Sue, and John.
Nice to see you there too, Milagro. Also many teachers I hadn't seen in years.
George Key was surrounded by a great family and a multitude of diverse acquaintances who won't soon forget him as patriarch, educator, and just plain friend.

Message: What a week! Lots going on last week with the packing up and moving mom (Jody Weller) on to the next chapter of her life but in closing that one I opened another. Made my first visit to the VFW and am honored to be part of Judy's Cougar Sighting. Her family played a big role in my upbringing. Okay someone has to take the blame. But it was great to meet her again after 50+ years. Jan I don't know how you keep up with her but what a fun chase it must be. John it was really great to finally meet you and once again THANK YOU for not only what you do here but what you have done for US. Breakfast was fantastic! I can't recall having eaten so much for so little. Maybe I shouldn't have responded to the order form with "All of the above"! I have one question though, did Don Mcintire ever get his breakfast? Thanks to everyone else that has supported mom over the years. You will forever be in my thoughts.
Well thanks for coming out Bob, and good to finally meet you too after emailing back and forth for the past 10-15 years. Jody, I miss you already. Please stay in touch with us.

Message: Ernie, Pierre' Z car service started out on the alley east of the 100 block of Standard St. in the city of El Segundo. The owner was a race car driver on the Grand Prix circuit from France. Pierre worked for the Gardena Datsun dealership before he opened his shop in El Segundo. Pierre worked on my 1972 Datsun 240Z. Pierre moved his shop to Hawthorne on Crenshaw. I think he changed the name to Pierre'Z Service Center. Pierre started out as a high end mechanic. He later had several used Z cars for sale. I lost track of Pierre, however I think he moved the shop to HB
Thanks Dan for the info.

Everyone had to give him a tease about being from the rival school, but they were all very charming to him and he had a great time, as did I. Thanks again to Glenn and John and April and Greg and all the others who played a role in putting it together. Looking forward to getting the DVD. Glenn, are there still reunion t-shirts left?

Message: It was a skyhawk that had been ordered by a PD that did not take delivery. I drove it on the toll way in Illinois and routinely pinned the speedometer that went up 90. It had a manual 4 on the floor and when no one was in front of me coming out of the toll booth I could be going 60 before blending back into traffic. Drove that car until it was so rusted that you could see through the front doors, the door locks were inoperable, and the trunk was permanently locked (but it could still ride like a champ on the toll way).

Message: Many things have happened since I last wrote with the loss of our father, Frank Richmond, and the difficult part in selling the old house on Truro filled with so many memories. My wife and I both miss the good times in Hawthorne especially the friends and great times we had growing up. I reconnected recently with John Fessler, Mike Kadow and Bob Elam, all classmates I grew up with. It was fantastic sharing memories and humor. I also wore my Cougartown tee-shirt to my wife's Leuzinger reunion and lived to tell about it. In fact, one of the attendees was a former fellow baseball little-leaguer who I had not seen since I was 11. Take a look at this video Talk about nostalgia... We were truly blessed to grow up in Hawthorne. Thanks John for this great site
Hi Roger, Seems like after the death of my dad, I got real nostalgic about our fun times in good old Hawthorne. It wasn't long after that Cougartown came about. Thanks for wearing the Tshirt and glad you lived to tell about it

Message: I just did something that I have never done before. I ordered a new car rather than choosing from cars already at the dealership. I went to the Subaru dealer and ordered my 2015 Subaru Impreza 5-door in the color that I like with only the options I want. Expected delivery will be sometime between mid-December and early-January. There are 4 cars that I have owned that I wish I had today - a '67 Mustang fast-back, a '66 Mustang coupe, a '61 Impala, and a '86 Buick Skyhawk.
Hi Sharon, You can keep the Buick Skylark and I'll take the other 3
