Message: John, wasn't there another music store, between Broadway and the Hawthorne Press, next to the pool hall? I can't remember the name, but I bought several records from them also.
Yes, Bob Fraser's favorite record shop, Rite Note.

Message: These comments about the oldies but goodies made me dig deep into my back closet & drag out and dust off my old 45 records in their original Decca file record holding cases... My very first record that I ever bought was "The Letter" by The Medallions... and the flip side was "Buick 59"... I bought all of them at a music store on Hawthorne Blvd. not too far from Hawthorne Intermediate... What was the name of that store? As I was looking through them, I was trying to decide which was my favorite... and as I looked through them, I realized there are no real favorites because it was the era that was my favorite... But just to name a few... "Village of Love"/Nathaniel Mayer... "Devil or Angel"/Bobby Vee... "Lonely Blue Boy"/Conway Twitty... Can you hear that record playing and the light scratching noise that it made? Not this perfect sound of digital music we have now... The scratching was part of the beauty... and when a record would get old and would start to skip, you would tape a nickel on the arm to make it a little heavier... ah, those great memories... I'm off to Target to buy me a record player...
Great memories there Mike, especially the nickel. I taped a screwdriver to mine. The store was Melody Music.

Message: The best song of all time is Don't Worry Baby by the boys from Hawthorne. It has it all: harmony, melody, beat and clever lyrics. The Byrds copied that drum lick for Tamborine Man and I have requested that it (DWB) be played at my memorial. Trying to pick four more tunes to complete a top five seems impossible at this time, so I won't try. Carry On!
Thanks Carl, great BB tune.

Message: In the early 60's my favorite music was American folk music and traditional Irish music. In '63 I went to my first concert at Santa Monica Civic - Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. I was introduced to the music of the Beach Boys when I came to HHS in '61 and added them to my "play list". And a question for Judy - what do mucklucks look like? Are they like "squaw-boots" or are they another thing I have forgotten about :)
