Message: All this talk about records, I remember the plaques that were displayed in the Coach's office with all the track and swim records. I think the names were put up with Marks-A-Lot on the white cloth tape they wrapped ankles with. What happened to all the swim records, once the swim team was discontinued? I think my Senior team still held the school record for 4 x 100 freestyle. I don't remember all my team-mates, except for Jeff Nathanson.
Do not know Alan. I do know Glenn Crist has gone way out of his way to save our heritage track records which should be updated real soon right here on good ol' Cougartown.

Message: O.k. Judy! you got a deal! no droning in exchange for the extra omelet. Yes John, still friends bud! Now as to jobs, my dad owned Calreal realty on the Blvd. at 135th and the Blvd. on the west side of the Blvd. one block north of A & W. he had another office in Inglewood in the 50s and 60s. My brother Ray ('71) worked for Boys Markets, RC Cola and then Mothers cookies and then went into real estate. Ray pulled me into the business in '84 after I graduated from Pepperdine. Now Rays oldest son Jon is in the business and doing well. Ray started at Boys Market at 118th and the Blvd. I worked there in the early seventies with a ton of Cougars including Teri Hammon, Mark Manning, Carol Stellino & Kelly Dunn to name a few.

Message: Yes, Cougars, there is a big weekend coming up next Weekend! First, Good Neighbors Day on Sat., July 20th at the Civic Center. We really need people to help out, so if you can spare a couple of hours or so please come down, there is plenty to do mixed in with a lot of fun. Then we can all have breakfast on Sunday at the VFW. It will be well worth the price to see Clark and Judy in action. Seriously, please come on down to both events. It should be a great weekend!
If you want to help out on Good Neighbors Day please be there early.

Message: School records - white/black... here, then not here. Yada, yada, yada. That may have been interesting 30 years ago, but I'm sure that most alumni (of any color) have moved on and grown up and I can't imagine that anyone wants to keep this topic alive (true or not true) for days on end. (my opinion). Ya know what CT really needs is a good dose of PACO'S PICS! Paco, where the hell are you anyway. No pics since Christmas. (yes, I said the "C" word) While I'm here, don't forget that July 21st is the VFW breakfast and I'll give Clark his usual requested "extra omelet" and let him hang on the serving window an extra 2 minutes if he'll just stop droning on about usless information. I've seen you do more for less Clark. Now, I'm ready to get blasted, but I miss the old CT of 3 days ago. The one where we were all brothers and sisters of any ethnic background, and money or fame didn't matter. OK, BLAST ME!
Well I do too. I don't much give a flip if IHS hanged a teacher. Clark, I'm sorry......are you sorry too? If you are tell Judy and she can tell Betty Sue and Betty Sue can.........
Also do NOT forget Good Neighbors Day, Saturday the 20th of July. Fun day for everyone. Hope to see you there.

Message: O.K Big John You said I should go to the horses mouth. I made some phone calls and spoke to someone who actually went to the IHS campus and checked out the track record board. My post yesterday was correct and Sloey is wrong again (big surprise!) A number of records were removed and not due to recent performances. the mile record was removed, my friends pole vault record and Rick Dupe's shot put record. All they had to do was remove everything pre-77. I respect you as the head of Cougartown John but you should follow your own rules of no foul or inappropriate language. Telling me that I was "spreading crap" was quite rude and inappropriate especially considering I was correct. I wasn't trying to "stir the pot" as you put it. You should take off your rose colored glasses John! The only way to deal with stupidity and injustice/intolerance is to acknowledge that it exists and prevent it in the future. AS I said yesterday we need a little more tolerance in this world. enough said.
So you're saying that these records are gone because these record holders were white guys? Or are the records gone because IHS misplaced the old records and are starting over? BIG difference Clark. Someone please step up here and clarify.

Message: My old man worked at Douglas Aircraft at 120th and Aviation-would walk to work often. Then in 64 they moved him to the Long Beach plant. Had to join the ranks of the commuting masses. Mom worked part time at Sears in Inglewood for some years. There used to be so many defense plants in our area. Some dads I knew worked at airlines and at movie and TV studios.

Message: We are a Northrup Family. My dad worked at Northrup after he came home from WWII. It was during one of their layoffs that he went to CVUHSD in the late 40's. My mom worked there in the 50's. My brother-in-law, Terry Trefz,'61, retired from Northrup and my husband just retired last Oct. from TRW/Northrup. One of my favorite memories of growing up in Del Aire was watching all the dads walk to work (on Aviation) in the morning with their lunch pails. Maybe not my first job, but certainly one of my favorites, was Hawthorne Parks and Rec. Made lifetime friends and got to work outside "playing". I think Parks and Rec was a job many CT'ers had in common.

Message: John, a couple of things: Is that really a picture of your mom? Great picture, what was reason the picture was taken? My wife went to IHS and still has interest in what happens there. They have made many mistakes including losing all their certifications, but no one could be that tone deaf.
Hi Gary, Yes that is my mom. Since we have our senior pictures on this website, that was the closest thing to a senior picture she had.
I still do not understand the IHS records thing. What is a certification? Are you talking about losing all of their old sports records? I am in the dark but really do not believe, because a record holder was a white guy his records were removed.

Message: Speaking of first jobs, it got me thinking about all the benefits of working close to home. No frustrating long commutes sitting on the 405, save gas, less wear and tear on your car, better for the environment, etc. My first job was at Sonnet Tool on El Segundo and Crenshaw. I use to ride my bike there. My dad worked at Northrup and then STL/TRW. My mom worked for Leuzinger HS and then for 25 years walked a couple of blocks to work for the Hawthorne School District. My current commute is 18 miles, but 15 years ago I was driving 50 miles to Ontario and filling up my tank every 3 1/2 days. Maybe I need to get a "first job" mentality and look for something within biking range.
$300-$350 for gas each month? Ya think?

All SLOW white tracksters' records had been eliminated due to recent performances. No mention of an arbitrary racial exclusion. CLARK GOT IN TROUBLE CLARK GOT IN TROUBLE!
So I guess you are saying that someone has bettered the earlier records which happened to be held by white guys?

Message: Hey Bob Faulkner: you said my posts make your blood boil..Get ready for a stroke my friend.. I just spoke to Gene Popko, Gene was head track coach and Athletic Director at Inglewood High in the late 60s and early 70s. He informed me that Inglewood High has recently decided to eliminate all "white" track records at Inglewood High!! One of my best friends, Rich Yates (IHS'71) has the pole vault record and was third best in the country his senior year. This is stupid! Pink, purple or green, a record is a record. We need a little more tolerance in this world!!!
I DO NOT believe that for a minute, Clark. No school would go back, figure out if a guy/girl was black or white, and eliminate him/her from the record book because of their color. I would think, before you start spreading this crap around, you would go to the horses mouth. All this does is stir the pot and you know it. No more speculation on this subject, period.
