Message: Hey, John Boy; Happy Holidays, I just got back in town from the east coast and was checking out the site. Looking at Paco's Pics, of the picnic, boy, time has passed everybody by and everyone looks great. However, Dennis Campbell & Paco could use a little airbrush work LOL, hey guys, just kidding. I don't even take pictures of myself anymore, I've broken to many good cameras, the cameras don't even flash when they try and take my picture and no, I'm not a Vampire. J.B., have a good one, Jorge
Hey George, thanks and have a Merry Christmas.

Message: Hi, I am Gary Johnson, Kathy Jefferson-Johnson was my sister in law, married to my youngest brother John. My daughter Laura was very close with Kathy and all of the Jeffersons and has relayed the following: Jack passed away about 5 years and his wife Helen about 3 years ago. Nancy Jefferson lives in the south bay area with her husband Greg (we are unsure of Gregs last name but will try to find out). The last we knew, Jerry Jefferson has lived in Australia and we believe San Diego. We will try to reach Kathy's son Todd who resides in Phoenix to see if we are able to get any further information. Email me...
Thanks very much for the information.

Message: OK, that's it! The next little CT field trip is to Bob's Big Boy - Downey or Torrance, doesn't matter. It's Cougar owned and that's what matters! Guess we should give him a heads up to see if he could accommodate. Or maybe he'd just shut it down to general public for our little event! Bob's beats Pink's in my book anytime!!! I can taste the chocolate shake now....Maryann Dowell would be dipping her grilled cheese into catsup and we'd all be sharing fries!! WHEN SHALL WE GO???
Sue, You are now IN CHARGE of this event. I've been to the one in Torrance, so let's all meet up in Downey. It has car hop service too.

Message: I am sorry to bring sad news. Our friend Don Brokaw, Class of '77 has been battling melanoma for quite some time. He may not have a lot of time left. He has been going through several chemo treatments, surgeries, and now radiation. He hasn't complained once. I swear the laughter I try and bring out in him makes him feel better. I know it would do wonders for him and deeply make him very, very happy to hear from you that knew him well. He doesn't do Internet, he likes to get letters/cards. He doesn't like sympathy. He prefers to hear about the fun things we all did at HHS and throughout our life. He would LOVE to hear about your life, etc....If you send a photo, that would be a thrill for him too. If you would be kind enough to write him a cheerful card, tell him about what you've been up to (children, travels, whatever...)
Address: Don Brokaw 1897 W. Sandalwood Drive Meridian, ID 83646
There are a few good friends of his that I cannot find - Lisa Kuka, Cathy Haigen, and Jill McFarlane. If any of you have their emails, please pass this along. Thank you!
Tesa, Jill McFarlane is on the Alumni List under the class of 1977. I'm sure Don will get lots of cards and letters from his Cougar friends.

Message: My favorite family Christmas tale occurred a few years before my birth during the war, about 1944. My parents were the proprietors of a modest motel just off Imperial on Aviation. It was Christmas Eve Day and a tired couple came in to the unadorned motel lobby looking for simple accommodations as they were in town to pay their governmental levies. Being Christmas time all the rooms were hired out and there was no more room at the motel. All my parents could offer them was some space in the garage that was once an old barn. Being rather desperate as ?mother? was with child, Mister and Missus Baker signed the registrar. They took their meager belongings to the rear of the establishment and entered through the broken gate hanging on the fence surrounding the structure. Now stop me if you have heard this before? Oh, you have?...hee hee. Merry Christmas, Cougs.

Message: My best Christmas that I can remember was when I was a Freshman (1965/66) my parents bought me a 1953 Ford. It had only 33,000 miles and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. They put it in the garage with a big red bow. They wrapped little hints that I had to follow to get to the car. I am really looking forward to this Christmas, my grandson is 13 months old and loves to open packages and play with the bags and paper. I wish all the Cougar family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
WHAT A CHRISTMAS PAULINE, thanks for this one.

Message: Here's one of my Christmas memories. About a month before Christmas, when I was about 8, my sisters and I found our presents. We swore to each other that we would never tell our parents. Well it worked out almost perfectly. On Christmas morning our parents woke us up and I ran to the tree saying, "I can't wait to open my Lincoln Logs".
Great One Chris, thanks

Message: While drving home from my sister's on Thanksgiving, I was reflecting on how wonderful that particular holiday is when we all get together and besides sharing dinner, sharing a lot of laughs. Then I thought about Christmas and how wonderful that time was for me as a child also. They were all good, but there were two in particular that are my most memorable. The first was in third grade when I got a white three speed Schwinn racer! The second was in sixth grade when I got my first Pendleton! I thought I would add this tidbit to Cougartown and maybe generate a new topic for feedback. Cougars favorite Christmases!!!
Thanks John, Good topic so let's go Cougars.

Message: Congratulations to the Univ of Oregon Ducks and their great victory over the OSU Beavers. Great teams get it done when all the marbles are on the line and the Quackers did just that. The Rose Bowl should be an easier game than all these final Pac Ten games. After all, lowly USC put a whippin on the Buckeyes at home. Robin Hood, your slow roasted beaver is cookin right now and will be delivered for your dinner tonight!
Congratulations to the Ducks. Put the Quack on the Buckeyes. Lowly USC?? Geez Dean, lose 3 games and now we're lowly? I never called Stanford "lowly".

Message: There was a ship on 126th between Menlo and Freeman, on the north side of the street just directly east of the alley. Is that the ship you're thinking of? My dad told me it actually was launched in the mid-80s . . . not sure what happened to it after that, and there's a new family in the house who has no clue as to their lot's history (of course we still call it "the boat house"!
That's probably the one Laura, thanks very much for the information.

Message: Hawthorne Ghost Ship I was very much a part of Hawthorne growing up. I travelled the streets of Hawthorne as a youth on my bikes and memorized neighborhoods and sights along the way. Those memories are fading but there is one sight I remember in the neighborhood just west of Prairie Ave along 126th Street or Broadway (which one I am guessing) . A boat was under construction in the backyard of a home or piece of land along the way. I watched intently as it took shape hoping to see the finished product some day. Construction stopped on the boat and for years it stood idle and rusting. All iron, the boat stood a good two stories from keel to deck and about 50 feet long. Construction was oriented north and south on the property. No plates on the side revealed bulkheads and holes for hatchways dividing the lower deck into compartments. Whatever happened to that boat and why did construction stop? Does anybody know or remember? Whatever response you can give would be deeply appreciated.
I remember that boat in the mid 50s to 60s. It was on 126th and York on the northeast corner. I always wondered about it too but never saw anyone working on it. Does anyone have a clue to who owned it or whatever happened to it?

Message: Debra McGregor, some of us got this email below from Jake Tabbi and I know you used to see one of the Jefferson's in Lancaster years ago. Any idea where the other family members live?
Hi, We are trying to locate Jerry Lee Jefferson (Class of 1964). (they lived on 5350 124th St. W. Hawthorn). I know his sister Kathy Jefferson (class of ?66) passed away a few years ago but I am still trying to find Nancy Jefferson (Class of ?69) or their mom ?Helen?. My sister was an exchange student in the class of ?65 (Nassrin Tebbi) and lived with the Jefferson?s. Our families became close and later we lost touch. We are now looking to see if we can find any of them. Can any of you help in any way? Do you know anyone who might? (I have already contacted John Baker at the Cougartown; He can?t locate any of them, he suggested a post on the Cougartown ) Thanks Jake Tabbi.
Debra, please contact Nassrin or Jake directly at this email address jtebbi@sympatico.ca Thanks very much
