Message: To all my classmates of the 1979 year. It is with my deepest regret that I will not make it to our reunion this year. The tough economic times have made it hard for us all, and I just can not afford the trip from Nova Scotia, Canada, back to sunny Southern California this summer for this reunion. Best wishes to you all!!!!

Message: I'm planning a trip to Florence Oregon to visit my brother Nick c/o '74. Any Cougars out in that area? I hear it's a paradise, and the scenery spectacular. Just joined Facebook, got a message from a cousin in Sicily, and that started the whole thing. Had to go to altavista.com to translate, buy hey, my Italian is not as good since my parents are not around to speak to them more frequently/fluently. I'm so not into the twitter, my space, facebook..('got fish', or something of that sort)thingy. But, I hope to find some old work buddies from my Vegas days as a Blackjack Dealer, and perhaps my tenure with American and United Airlines. Can't have enough friends, right?!?! Hope to hear from the Oregon Coug's to fill me in on the happenings in Florence, OR. Might want to leave this rat race and move into the country.... sometime REAL soon since work is not as plentiful as it used to be.
Joined Facebook just to see who was there so if there are Cougs wanting me to be their friends, I hardly ever go there, so please don't take it personally. I'm friends to ALL of you.

Message: I have been getting a lot of Cougar inquiries about my brother, John Crotty (?69). I guess you know that John went in the hospital 12 days ago. He had surgery to scrape out the infection and remove a small portion of the bone. It was suppose to be an overnight stay, but it didn't turn out that way. He is still there. He keeps bleeding and they haven?t been able to stop it. It is unbelievable. I keep telling people that if this were on an episode of House, I would think it was made up. They are still running tests, but they now believe that he has a rare (but treatable) form of blood cancer. He has started treatments. Please keep him in your prayers. I love him so much.
We will Noreen and you keep us updated too. Thanks very much.

Message: Yes Susan our families do go back along time. I remember the camp outs and riding your dad's old Mustang motorcycles. That got me hooked and I'm still riding and racing. Tony Cherbak's dad was our leader, he did manage to keep us organized and safe. One of my favorite trips was down by the Salton Sea. Someone drove Tacaso's Ford Scout into a canal. We spent most of the trip getting it out. Then we had to make it run so we could drive it home. Scouting was a little different then, at least it was in our troop. The memories are fun. Take care Susan.
Doug, your picture won't show without your class

Message: John, I want credit for a Cougar Stalking! (I knew you would be there but you didn't know I would be there.) Hey at least in Scouting we'd get a patch. There's gotta be some payoff for making the effort - well aside from the obvious getting to see you, George and Patty. Also need to clarify - those are NOT all my wine glasses- though if we had stayed another 20 minutes you would definitely see at least one more glass on the table!
OK Cougar Stalking it is....

Message: Hello John and all you generous CTers. You asked me to let you know if and when we found Alex and Artie Verduzco. It turns out that Cougartown is better than Western Union. An hour after you posted my urgent request I began receiving emails and phone calls. It was pretty cool how someone in Arizona read Feedback and called someone else, who called me. The result is Alex has been by his son's side, cooking for him, helping him shower, and generally keeping him company for the past week. My nephew had his second surgery and is recovering nicely. He will walk again and has dreams of playing basketball when this is over. We are grateful. Thanks to everyone who reached out to help us. You're the best! DZ
Hi Liz, So glad you found Artie and it is remarkable how this network of Cougars are all tied together, isn't it. I'm sure we could find just about anyone through our Cougars. Thanks for the reply.

I last saw little sister Jennifer about 20 some years ago (was just looking at a pic of her in a photo album - vacation at Shasta Lake) and I too got a little misty reading the tribute to Mike. I hope you will post in and share some of our York School, cub scout, vacation memories for the gang to enjoy.

Message: .... Anyone ever hop on the train ? .. As most know the train came thru HHS and went on to the beach or points east ... It was a quick and exciting way to go to school or the beach . (Well when your 15 it is) .... Anyway one weekend during the watts riots for some dumb reason myself and a few others decided lets go east ! So we jumped the train like the little pros we thought we were and all seemed fine .... We figured if we got into "dangerous territory" we could jump off and catch the west bound or start walking .... Well ... unlike all the times before, the train picked up speed and we were too afraid to make a jump . And before we knew it we were in (you guessed it) Watts ! Now remember this is before cell phones and texting etc, Sooooo we had to find a phone booth and one of us had to make the call (me) and you can imagine the words used by my Dad ! (can't be repeated here on CT) .. Before long a cop saw us looking like scared rabbits... and picked us up and brought us back to the Hawthorne airport terminal where we could safely walk home .... You know we never went east again ... and after my surfboard was run over from the train on our way to the beach I have never jumped another ..... Aloha !
Post Note : I will be leaving to work with my son's documentary film crew next Monday .... Will be in Afganistan for about a month and half ....Have a wonderful reunion ! And Wayne, would you please play my music I requested ? Carlos Sanantana !! Peace out !
Great story Jim, thanks and have a good trip.

Message: Wow, what I wouldn?t give to go to that pancake breakfast. Breakfast is something rare in this country. Pancakes you can get at maybe a Hilton or the like. Thank goodness my wife likes to make pancakes and she makes really good ones from scratch. Enjoy that pancake breakfast at our ol? alma mater. Enjoy one and all. I hope to see some posts about how it all goes down. By the way, are the Hawthorne tax payers still unwilling to support their high school?s sport programs or am I being too naïve and living in the past when these things didn?t need special private funding and carwashes helped pay for school outings? Anyway, I hope it is successful and I?ll be there in spirit. Have a great one, Jim Peppers
Hey Jim, Maybe we'll all come to your house Saturday morning for pancakes Yes the athletic program still needs funding. I talked with Mark Newell, Principal a couple of days ago and he's still talking about how pleased he was when the Alumni came through for the program last year. If anyone wants to donate to the athletic program again this year, I'll set up the page. and add a link to this page.

Message: Richard Hess, Re: your "distress call" post- job status. I'm "off Island" for the first time in 2 yrs, attending to a rental in Castle Rock, Co. (Just down the road a piece they call it "Greasby Country"...but I haven't seen one yet). I wish I'd known of your need for work as I have/had 200' of cedar fence to stain, 70' of trench to dig for rain gutter draining, 2 leaky toilets to fix, a 3-car garage to prime/paint & a basement to finish. After 2 wks I'm nearly Maui bound but would love to have had your help during my stay. You might try Craigs list. I get inundated w/ eager, able guys by offering work under the "Gigs-Labor" category. I pay cash, provide lunch, smokes, cold drinks and of course my "just fun to be around" demeanor. (kidding) You may have better luck with CL than on "John's CT Job Fair." (Or would you?) Your request was a novel idea & a great, first move. That took r e a l guts to publicly reveal your situation on this forum. Way to go! If you're serious, possibly someone on CT & local to you could use a hand. Anyone? I wish you luck, Rich. Jim
