Message: I like all the interest by the OC Cougars for the October get together. Sign me up for the Canadian bacon pizza and mojo potatoes. Just remember Saturdays in October may be consumed with a little college football action. For those of you looking for an earlier "no planning necessary" option, stroll down to the Summer concert series at Chapman University in Orange. On Friday, 8/14, Surfin USA will be playing Beach Boys hits. It's outdoors and FREE. I'll be there passing out free popcorn and lemonade to all Cougars.

Message: Jill, Sharon, all I need is a time and date and I'll be there. It is tough to move behind the Orange Curtain without a work permit or proof of residence. I am always getting stopped on the 55!! Rick, thanks for the correction on Mr Pike. I also want to thank you too for helping me get my head on straight before going to HHS. You and Dennis Miller gave me great insight on life and what to expect in high school. This is what I was speaking of when growing up how the younger guys looked up to the older ones in not only sports, but life itself. The help is always appreciated and it works out when you know the older guys and they watch out for you. John C. hope all goes well for you and your upcoming surgery. I still have the irons you gave me at the golf tourney.

Message: While I like the idea of having this party at Hahlbecks house, I'll spare him. I think I may have the perfect place for us OC Cougars anyway. It's nostalgic of our youth in Hawthorne, it's not brunch, but how about Shakeys Pizza Parlor. There are a few centrally located in Orange County. Please email me and let me know if I'm on the right track. If not, I will gladly take suggestions. Thanks to everyone who has really gotten behind this.

I don't have details yet, but it will be in October for sure. The date and the place is unknown. I'm not sure if it will be a brunch, or a happy hour setting. Please let me know your preferences. Message: "And the hits just keep on comin'." Sorry JB, just a brief follow-up to my status. Just got back from two doctors appointments today. They discovered I have a Staph infection at the entrance site from my stroke surgery and there is still some blood on my brain. They're going back into my brain cavity on Monday and try to stop the bleeding and clean up the infection. They may have to remove some skull and put a plate in my head. They told me this only happens in about 2% of the time...just my luck I'm in that percentile. It's looking more and more unlikely that I'll be able to attend Cruise Night or my 40th reunion....DAMN!!!

Message: Jill, thanks for the compliment. Of course I remember you. I encourage those in Orange County to have a get together. It is amazing that we are from different classes but still have lots to talk about. I think the next Sacramento group get together will be at the State fair. I think Anita was talking about seeing Three Dog Night at the fair on September 4th. My mouth is watering just thinking about a deep fried snicker bar. John is there going to be a cruise night on August 21st? I see nothing about it on CT.

Message: Yes Rick my Dad was Chief from 1980 to 1989 here is a lil story from back in the day,,,352 club A friend and I decided to go bowling at the Hawthorne Bowl around 1972. As we walked passed 131st and the Blvd two guys got out of a car and one of them cut us off and said "you think you are tough guys?" then proceeded to slap us around. We were 12 yrs old and this guy was 20 something, after that they went into the 352 club, And well we called the police, A patrol car showed up and we told the story, then another patrol car and another then a couple of motorcycle officers showed up and parked in front by the door to the club, soon there was about 5 patrol cars and the two motor units, I think that was the entire patrol shift sitting right there, Then we waited, the police said they were waiting for the Sergeant. Soon the two guys came out and the police told them to step over and wait, Wait for what? they asked. The Sergeant the police replied. In the mean time the officers had my buddie and I come over by the guys and point out which one did the slapping. All the police cars were on 131st and when the Sergeant finally showed up he had to park up the street. As he walked passed the officers each one greeted him "Hi Sarg" until he reached the two guys and me and my buddie and I formed the the appropriate greeting and said "Hi Dad!"

Eddie Braun who also graduated from HHS growing was someone we picked on but he grew up and is one of the busiest stuntmen in Hollywood and doubles people like Charlie Sheen, Tony Danza and Jackie Chan. Message: Although Dale Hahlbeck('75) already posted up about our lunch together last week, I have one comment I must make....I hadn't seen Dale face to face in 33 years, since October 1976. Upon spotting each other last week we did the obligatory and totally p.c. "manhug" which would have been totally unacceptable in the 70s and our conversation picked right up! That's what having gone to HHS and being a Cougar is all about! We had so much of our youth in common. We talked about coaches and friends and cheerleaders and even Mr. Sweeney the p.e. teacher at Hawthorne Intermediate. Dale survived his stroke really well and it was great to see him and reconnect with a fellow Cougar. It's great to be a Cougar!

Message: Maybe it wasn't the F-15, could have been the X-15. That plane had its own hangar and neon sign at LAX. But as I recall, the pilot most famous for flying it was Scott Crossfield, although Armstrong did too. My dad worked in a machine shop that made parts for that "rocket plane." He took us to see it through the window at the hangar. I built two models of the X-15 but neither one survived their maiden flights, something to do with when plastic meets asphalt.

All kinds of things going through my head, heart attach being my first thought..No pain though. The second was a year later in Lahaina,on my 30th anniversary. Both times I was taken to a hospital and given a shot of Dramamine, both times my Doctor told me to take Bonine (Mecizine) to prevent it and to take Dramamine if I got it again.
