Message: JB, please forgive me, but I am posting a link to YouTube.com where someone has uploaded a very funny one minute five second clip of a Which One's Pink? fan at a show we played in Tarzana last year (you've to to stay with it as it explodes into laughter). If I recall correctly, about 30% of the guys in the class of '77 reacted exactly like this at rock shows: Go here.
Hey Dan, Funny? I don't get it....

Message: One Cougar?s Memorial Day Salute - 1970 / 1971, as the Viet Nam ?Conflict? raged at fever pitch, media news bolstered anti-war sentiment nightly & overwhelming peer pressure forced most teens to take a liberal ?peace? position against our country?s involvement in that war against Communism.
It was also my senior year & I needed to make up 5 credits toward a missing ?PE? class so I negotiated a key position on the Hawthorne High School Varsity Football Team as Manager. I have tons of recollections including screaming my lungs out from the sidelines every Friday night rooting for the Cougars. But the most emotionally profound memory I carry in my heart from that job is one I have never shared with anyone. Among my chores as Team Manager was the weekly preparation of ALL uniforms returning from the dry-cleaning, placing them neatly back into storage cubes designated with the numbers of each player. I took care to make sure all team members got the complete and correct uniform with jersey & pants stowed into their designated cubical. But what nobody else on campus ever knew was that every once in a while Coach Plum would solemnly hand me a slip of paper with a Varsity Number and the corresponding name of an HHS Alumnus from the Varsity Team. These names were past graduate Varsity Football Team Cougars who had fallen during active duty in Viet Nam, a most honorable and elite group. The protocol was to issue the current player another number & officially RETIRE that particular Varsity Football Jersey Number forever! The brave Coug?s name would be properly displayed in that cubical with his Number, where it remained, for me alone to see each time I handled the uniforms. I held a quiet requiem in the equipment room for all fallen Varsity Football Cougar Heroes of the Viet Nam War, each week as I silently prepared for the upcoming game. Then after every Friday Night Varsity Game the Uniforms would be bagged up and sent to the cleaners; including those unblemished Hero Cougar?s Scarlet & Gold Jerseys which had been so carefully stowed away! Because it was a Standing Order from the Coaches Office as a silent memorial to have those immaculate Retired Jerseys pulled back out of their cubby holes & dropped into the bag with the rest of the ?Team?, as a living tribute to their courage and sacrifice. So you see once every Wednesday I bore witness in tribute to our Fallen Cougar Heroes of the Viet Nam War as each Jersey was folded and placed neatly back in its slot on the wall. And now you know ?The Rest of The Story!

Message: Happy Memorial Day to all Cougs and their families out there. Please be careful on the roads and the Lakes this weekend so we can hear your words of wisdom, come Tuesday. And please remember the reason for the Holiday and say a prayer for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedom.
Amen to that, Alan, thanks....

Message: With all due respect I submit my thoughts that Ray Nelson class of 1973 looks somewhat like a younger Rush Limbaugh, doesn't he? By the way, I hear Rush is a pretty good golfer for all you 'green' fans. (Wouldn't that be amazing if Rush joined the golf 'pros' next year?). By the way; is Ray on vacation? If so, I wish him a great and safe time down there.
Either he's on vacation or he's running from someone.

Message: The last mini-movie is pretty cool. I like the shots of LAX way back. I remember being on the runway with all the reporters when the SST Concord landed for the first time in Los Angeles. There was so many reporters and photgraphers. We got to go through the Garrett hanger to get on the runway. I think it was Jeff Suttons dad who got us on there.

Message: Ok Cougar sighting. My kids went on a field trip to the Waco Zoo. Thanks to whoever recommended the Zillow site. Nice to see old stuff in the 'hood. What ever happened to Dr. Demento radio show....it was so cool that we in the greater LA area had the real Barry Hansen instead of syndication like his fans nationwide. Often imitated, never duplicated.

Everyone, please put on your thinking caps....
During dinner, this evening, My mother (Elena Colucci Black of Leuzinger HS) and my Aunt, Nora Colucci, remembered a photo in an El Molino of a group of soldiers, one of which was "exposed". They claim it was between 1965 and 1976. I don't believe them, I think they are pulling my leg. Does anyone remember this photo??? Did it really exist? What year was it? John, this may be a good one for HHS trivia!
