Message: Neil, Thanks for sharing your long-kept secret about the Cougar coaching staff immortalizing the jerseys of players lost in Viet Nam. It gave me a new found appreciation for some people I evidently didn?t know as well as I thought.
Also, as a Viet Nam veteran myself, I would like to say thanks to everyone for the kind words for ALL those who have served and are serving our country. And, if I may, a special thanks to the true heroes of both conflicts. The men and women who paid the ultimate price for the freedom we all enjoy. I?ll always remember!

Message: Re our Class of '76 reunion: Even if you aren't planning on attending the reunion you'll be able to buy a memory book (right Sharon?) which means you'd want your current picture(s) included... right? So whether you're attending or not, you can email current family photos to me at the blue email link up there by my name! We have all of the senior pics so they're going in the book whether you send an update or not! If anyone doesn't have a senior pic but would still like a "before" photo, feel free to send one from 1976 or even a junior pic if you have that. Help us create the best 30th reunion memory book by filling it with great pictures that we can enjoy for years to come. Send as many as you want and we'll work in what we can. C'mon guys, we want those photos! If you have any other fun ones from that era (this goes for all classes attending) send them so we can print them out for everyone to enjoy at the party. Maybe you have some really goofy pictures of some of your classmates that you want to surprise them with when they get there! We'll print 'em! Larger than life too (ahem... depending on subject matter and content of course)! I'll be watching my inbox...

Message: Does anyone remember Mr. Herd (Jim) Biology teacher and tennis coach? What a neat guy. All the girls were in love with him; tall, good looking and had a brand new 58 Chevy Impala in 58. I remember a field trip our class went on and he and I were smoking in the restroom together. Somehow I think he got in trouble, cause he wasn't around when we graduated. Wonder why?
Hmmmm....

Message: Hey Baker Man! Doesn't June mean that it's Cougartown Dues time again? If I recall correctly it was finally determined that officially, it's time to "dues up". And thanks for making it so easy. Don't even have to write a check, just click on the PayPal option and in hardly a minute we're all paid up for another year of fun, fun, fun! I'm going to cheat and get mine done today but I challenge all Cougars to jump on board and get paid up before the end of June. Actually, dues are accepted all year round but it's nice to have a regular cycle so we know we keep up. Thanks once again for providing CT. You're the best!
Hey Sue, Yes, it is that time of the Cougartown year. Thanks for the infomercial and thanks to all who've already dues"ed" up this year. If you want to pay your dues by check, please send and make check payable to: John Baker, PO BOX 1406, Lomita, CA 90717. Please add your year of graduation and Girls, please add your maiden name.
Thanks all for helping out.

Message: Maybe I missed this posting on the feedback page earlier, but MIKE McClure [a former HHS teacher] told me about the passing of Mr. Mike Gold yesterday [Memorial Day] from a heart attack. I remember working with Mike Gold as a teacher at Hawthorne in the early Eighties........ DR. MIKEY we called him. He was always fun to talk to, and he was well liked by all the students at HHS [unfortunately, I did not have him as a teacher at HHS......but I'm pretty sure he was there going back to the seventies at least!] Our thoughts and prayers are with you MIKE, and with your family.

Message: Multi-Class Reunion 2006 -- Well, you know the old joke about good news and bad news, which would you like to hear first??? Ok, first the good news... The good news is we will still be gigging at Stick n Stein on Friday, September 29th at 6 PM. We look forward to seeing ALL of you at the Stick n Stein on September 29th!!
Now, for the not-so-good news. After much thoughtful consideration and gnashing of teeth, the Multi-class reunion committee has unanimously decided to cancel the Saturday evening festivities. Our decision was based on not being able to provide our classmates with a quality venue and menu and still keep the cost reasonable. We will, however, be working very diligently on searching for a date in the summer or fall of 2007. We regret we had to make this decision, but felt it was necessary. Those who sent checks in will be contacted and/or have the checks returned. Again, we hope to see you on September 29th at Stick n Stein! Multi-Class Reunion Committee

Message: Thanks Neil and all the Cougars out there for expressing their gratitude for us veterans. It does help us feel better about doing our duty in a time that was very confusing for us as a nation. Personally I grew to have mixed emotions about our involvement in Vietnam after my 3 years I spent there. Just as I have now with the current conflict our young men are facing in Iraq which I will keep to myself as this is not the format to voice them in. I do feel gratitude for us as a nation in the manner we are treating those young men that are serving our country in another conflict that may or not be popular with the citizens of this great nation of ours. At least we have learned from the past in making our servicemen feel proud no matter what we feel about the conflict. So once again thank you. I did have a Cougar siting this weekend as I ran into Mike McDowell c/o 1965 out in the water at Bolsa Chica. We had a great time surfing with each other. Cowabunga Cougs!!!

Message: Just checked the site to find addresses to send my Cougar dues and Multi-Class Reunion payment and noticed the September 30th event is no longer posted. Has it been sold out? If so, guess it serves me right for procrastinating. Guess I'd better get those dues in too! I apologize for forgetting to send my dues - but hopefully this will remind others to do the same.
Hi Kathleen, The multi-class 68-74 reunion has been cancelled, but they're planning a get-together at the Stick N Stein on the 29th of September. See the Reunions page for the details.
Thanks too, Kathleen, for the dues announcement. Remember Cougs, June is Cougartown Dues Month so you are right on time. Thanks again....

Please feel free to contact me with any info (pictures etc.) about the "Castle Dentist"
Thanks, Roland
Hey Roland, Sure, I remember the Castle Dentist. What a fun building for all kids. The Castle is still in Hawthorne. It was moved to the east side of Jim Thorpe Park on Cordary. Not sure what they use it for, but someone saved a piece of Hawthorne history, that's for sure.

Message: All the tributes, thoughts and prayers to our service men and women who have put their lives on the line for our country have been excellent. For those service personel who fought in Viet Nam, isn't it about time we drop the tag "the baby killers" and welcome them home. Every war has had it's share of baby killers, Iraq included. Viet Nam was a war brought to you by the six o'clock news. Today there is more edited broadcasts. The real baby killers are the leaders who send these warriors off to war knowing what the outcome has in store for their onw benifit. Since Viet Nam was the first war I grew up with, I have supported the service personel, but not the policies of our leaders. The same goes true for this latest fiasco. Good people go off to war, and how they return we can only hope for the best. I welcome home and pay tribute to all service men and women for their duty to this country and hope and pray leaders wise up and take care of them for the time they spent...I miss my dad, I miss Tim Thomas, I miss Kye Courtney.......

Message: Yes, it IS Memorial Day and everybody knows SOMEBODY who served or is now serving. Take a moment to speak directly to a serviceperson today and express your appreciation, someone in your phonebook, down the street, at the market, at a special memorial service today or perhaps here on CT. Thanks to my Pop, Paul Bierman, you are loved and missed and I am grateful for and proud of your service. To Cougars and their kids who served and still do and specially, to Jan Blomsterberg who dignifies military service for all Veterans. I am safe and happy and much of that is owed to you. God Bless America.

Message: Thank you neil...I'm gonna have to check that out to find the Good Doctor. I went through some family albums (the dinosaur LP's that is) and found "Songs by Tom Lehrer" and "Der Fuhrer's Face" by Spike Jones and the City Slickers. Cougar Sighting: Animal Planet, Time Warner Cable. Olympian sighting: looked in the mirror, and yep, it held. Don't forget Memorial Day today. It hasn't hit home until knowing people whose spouses or family members were killed in action in Iraq (most recent was 13 May 06; SPC Gebur, leaving an active duty wife and nine month old son). It isn't politics; these soldiers paid the ultimate price in military service.

Message: Hey Cougs: YES, Happy Memorial Day. A Special Thank You to ALL the Cougars that have Protected Our Freedoms, Past & Present. Our Family is Honored and So very thankful that you have answered the call.
That reminds me about the last time I was traveling with my 20 year old Son, and we saw a Marine in uniform and his wife just sitting down to eat. I asked our waitress to put their meal on our bill-she came back and said, "Sir you are going to have to get in Line" My Son got tears in his eyes, saying WOW, that is SO COOL that there were MANY there that day that Got It..... That young man and his wife sat there shaking his head smiling and insisted the waitress tell him WHO had sent over drinks, etc. As he walked over to our table, I stood to meet him along with my Son...I could not speak....All I could do was Nod and say Thank You....Thank you.....
Yes, we are SO very proud of you and my family counts it a privilege to pray for you and your families. We remember YOU today.
Dave, Sandy, Sara, and Kory
Yes, things have changed since Vietnam when our returning soldiers were called "baby killers". Thanks Dave....

Message: Hello Cougars and Happy Memorial Day Weekend;
I just read Neil Larsons rememberances of his time as the varsity football teams manager. I can't remember being this deeply touched by anything I ever read on this website. I've gained an enormous amount of respect for the coaching staff and the thought of the fallen warriors still being part of the team.
Thanks so much Neil for letting the rest of us in on your wonderful memories. God Bless you and our coaches and the warriors that came home and especially the ones that didn't.

Re the Pink Floyd Air drums video- I don't know all about 70% of the class and all BUT--- Yes this streaming vid clip is a very good practical demonstration of just what happens when you fry your brain on scrambled egg drugs like the old TV public service announcement- The guy seems to have the intensity of a religious zealot! It appears he DOES in fact know the chord progressions & music score of the piece -
I wonder, Why would someone waste footage on a stoner while Pink Floyd is up there performing LIVE!
