Message: Louise St. George, I am so sorry for your loss. Know that little Peanut is playing in the green grass of heaven, just over Rainbow Bridge, with my kids that have gone before. Last year I lost a kid a month for three months. I lost Kindje (Keeshond) in April to a muscle cancer, then My 13 year old, Shadow (Husky/Lab X) to congestive heart failure, then my 14 week old kitten, Q-tip, to Mega-colon. So, believe me I know where you are coming from. PLEASE feel free to email me directly when you have bad days....they WILL come, but know I'm here for you babe!! Yes, you did go to school with my sister, Mary. She is my favorite sister!! Mike Mc Cann, Micki Reitmeyer Lanterman says she remembers you and Hello! She is my bestest friend STILL and is here visiting me. We both remember Mrs. La Fever, fondly. Terrie Kostiszak - Yes, I remember the railroad tracks, I could see them from my bedroom window! Our house shared a fence with the RR tracks. We had just to walk across them to get to the Liquor store and to Aloha's. CANDY...how much money DID we spend there? That counter looked HUGE. Look at it today and you'll be asking how it got so small. Jamie and Terry were Colecchi's. Nora Colucci Schultz is MY RELATIVE!!! She is my Aunt and I'm PROUD of it!! Welcome to the site, Nodo!! It's about time. Thanks for the tea and fig tree and for not shooting us when we knocked on the door at 10p.m. for the surprise visit.

Message: Hello everyone, Here's a message from a far away cougar. First I'd like to congratulate the maker of this terrific site. If you take a look at other highschool/university sites then you realize how lucky we are, my thanks. Being so far away from Hawthorne makes this site even more special to me. I think that I spend more time in cougartown than any other site. I'd like to point out some high points in my years at Hawthorne High. As a freshman in 1974 I remember our great football team. I can't remember exactly how far we went (I think it was the states semi-finals), but it sure was fun. I was also a band geek (did I spell that right? It's amazing how your english suffers if you don't use it daily). I remember my first overnight trip to Selma. Man was that a blast. If you non-band members only knew what we all did. We were not all that nerdy as you think. As a sophomore I took Journalism 101 and found a way inside 'The Cougar'. First as a photographer and then proud to say the last Editor and Chief of the Cougar with Konnie Krislok as teacher, the best teacher I've ever had. We were such good friends that she took me to my Senior Prom. I don't think there are too many students who can say that they went to their prom with their teacher. For all of you dirty minded alumni out there we we're just friends!!! Also as a sophomore I was involved with the Mole and the student walkout of 1975. It's an amazing feeling to realize how powerful you can be as a student and when you see your high school on the channel 7 news and you actually see that you made a difference, then you can be proud. And if the school board hadn't learned there lesson in 1975 we did it again in 1978.
I didn't express these few highlights to let everybody know how (UN)popular I was in high school. Actually its really interesting to read about how other people perceive a common memory. Well fellow cougars keep the feedbacks coming and if your interested in what it's like living in a far away country feel free to ask away.
Going Dutch,
Arno Portegies

Hey Arno, Great stuff and thanks for the memories.

Prince Sloey is hungry (why make him wait for the Hacker Tourney), and I'm sure the Rowdies'll like it since it can't be cooked...Seriously, from what I hear, the turnout is gonna be great. Angel Karen said Becky Slaughter is coming too. I don't even wanna talk about the Kings or Ducks (wanna bes)...but if you're looking for some hockey, we are playing high school "nationals" in Anaheim this weekend. Email me if you want directions. We may be Longhorns, but the coach is a Cougar (and always will be).

Have a great time and take lots of pictures!
This is for Mike Mc Cann. I was wondering if you were ever a 6th grade camp counselor or a counselor at Funship Children's Center in Hawthorne?? I remember your name along with a Roger and a Craig who were counselors at SOME camp I went to... Could it be you?

Delia, You have a great time on vacation and we'll meet you down the road. There'll be plenty more of these get togethers.

Message: I want to thank everyone who will be working the Car Show, all shifts are filled. I thank each one of you and I will get back to each one of you with more infomation as the day nears. I still need more information for the Alumni Directory. I thank those who have submitted information especially for the 70's. Also, we have alot for 60, but not enough for the other 60's classes. I need more on the 50's,80's and 90's. What I need is classmates who are in the public eye, such as attorney's, entertainment field, artists, football, baseball, basketball, soccer, track, actors/actress, etc.... They have extended me a few more days on this directory, so please get me the information by May 4th. All you can send will really help me. Thank you all......
Loretta, Can you get Cougartown in the book as a place for all alumni from HHS to hook up with each other and stay in touch? Just a thought......

Message: John is Green Farms with their great sandwiches still there? Also Kell I finally got that line off my forehead from those wonderful bathing caps we HAD to wear years ago. Once after a swim lesson we went to get our hair cut and the stylist thought I had some sort of brain surgery scar. Who's idea was it anyway thinking pool drains all over would suffer if we didn't cram the pony tail into that little cap with the chin strap??Good thing, we would rather body womp at 26 any day.
Petey, No, Green Farms has been gone for about 10 years. I loved to just walk by that place as I'd gain a pound or two just from the aroma.

Message: KELLEY: I'm sorry, I gave you the wrong information on Tommy's. What I gave you is Tomboy's Famous Chiliburgers on Manhattan Beach Blvd (also very good!). There are 22 Tommy's Original World Famous Hamburgers still open, in various locations. Here is a number you (and John) can call that list all locations. The number is (213)389-1682. The original is at 2575 Beverly Blvd. (Beverly & Rampart). Hope you get a chance to go. Another GREAT place to try is called The Apple Pan at 10801 Pico Blvd., Westwood (I think) (310)475-3585. It's been there for over 50 years. There's just a U shaped counter and you have to wait for a seat, and it's well worth it. You have to try the Hickory Burger, Fries and a piece of Apple Pie....hummmm good! BTW, have you ever been to the Blue Heron Inn in Coos Bay? Great apple pie!!!! What ever you do, ENJOY! MYTMO

Rumor has it Judy's feet are still purple. Hey Judy I still have some "GREEN" food coloring to tone it down a bit.

Hey Loren, Glad you're back and we'll all see you next month at the VFW breakfast. The reason Judy's feet are purple is she was trying to steal a bottle of Gordon Bell's homemade wine (Gordo Red) by slipping the neck under her garter. Well, you guessed it, it slipped out, hitting the floor and.....well.......that stuff is like tattoo ink. Her feet will be purple for months.

I really do remember my Dad's gas station on Inglewood and Rosecrans - I know my brother had some type of hot car they use to race on Hawthorne Blvd and he ended up going to jail due to having so many speeding tickets and losing his license for life, which he got back by getting hired on at the railroad. Having a party on l32nd street and the police raiding the place (no names mentioned). Oh those days. Kelley kiss the sand for me at 26th street. Hope everyone is fine - see you on the 20th. Lisa

And nobody should feel ashamed of being upset by a pet dying. I had to put a cat I had for 13 years to sleep a few years back to put him out of his misery. I still sometimes think of him and cry. Hey, it's only human! Sometimes pets are better than people are...unconditional love!

Hope the wine country tour was a success, I was up in the bay area on business that weekend and only got as far north as Vallejo, but I was thinking about you all.
Mike Aceves, you mentioned Pauline Poticia and boy did that bring back memories. She was part of a group of gals I hung out with at Dana. It was Pauline, Johnnie Sue Anderson, Sharon Longworth, Carmela Montagna and myself. As fate would have it, Pauline was the first and only person I ever got into a fight with. I believe she slugged me once or twice and I reciprocated. We were both promptly hauled into Mr. Ziff's office where we ended up bawling our eyes out and hugging because we really were friends and didn't truly intend to hurt one another. Mr. Ziff was absolutely amazed, I guess he was used to "tougher" young ladies then we were. Our little group went our separate ways after Dana but I never forgot how much I needed them during that time in my life. So if you find Pauline, tell her I said hello and hope all is well with her.
