Message: To Delia Garza: I joined Roger Molieri and Craig Fernandez at Funship Childrens Center, I believe in the summer of 1980. I was there for about 3 years working after school as well as during the summer breaks. It was a fun place to work, entertained by all the kids during the school year and enjoying the day trips we took throughout the summer months. I look back at it as being a great precursor to parenthood. Thanks for taking me back there. Arno, is your brother Tony also in the Netherlands? I played soccer with Tony pre HHS (Dana fields), in fact I believe your Dad coached with V.W. on one of my teams.

Do you think he can Hail Mary his way out if this one? I'm not sure. Isn't this the greatest site?!?! My brother and I have been having a blast getting re-acquainted with some really precious friends we lost track of through the years. Thanks, John!
Sherry, I'm glad you're finding your long lost school buds. Wish I could say I planned it that way but the site is working out for the good of us all. I love it.

Message: As I read the various messages of "do you know where so & so is", a couple of names came to mind. In the 6th grade (Ramona.. Mr Middleton 6th grade teacher), Carol Ledsworth was my regular square dance partner. I think I was about 5' tall and it seems she was about 5'5. She lived on Ramona at 138th street. I think she moved after Hawthorne Intermediate and John Blankenship moved in her old house. He would have been in the class of '60. Drove a 1950 Ford convertible. Does anyone remember either of them?

Message: This is for anyone who knew my 2 older half sisters or wonder about them or where they are today...Mike, Mary and I have 2 older half sister's who were also HHS alumnus. Neither of them have computers, so that is the #1 reason, I would guess, that they aren't in here. Since this site was originally for the HHS alumnus of the 60's, I felt it was only fair to make mention of them. My two half sister's are: Nancy Jackson, class of 1965 and Donna Jackson, class of either 68 or 69. If anyone out there wants to know about them, please e-mail me, and I will get back to you.
I'm sure they have friends here Anita. Thanks for that.......

I remember the helium filled floaters at the Drop-In. Of course, I was way too young to be there, but a few of us with older brothers/sisters, managed to get snuck in, and educated. I'm sure the drug stores ran out of a certain product back then, and it wasn't balloons.

Was it......rubber gloves?

I guess you're now eating grits and chitlins since you're paying to watch bubba "racen" his car around the track. You know why southern drivers are so good in Nascar, because everyone out here drives with only two speeds; on or off. Enjoy them grits. By the way, I live about five miles from Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Message: John, Looks like you and Janet had a good time at Fontana. I looked for you on TV. You WERE wearing your CT T-shirt weren't you? It's too bad my compadre driving the #13 car had to spin out in the last laps, but, hey that's racing. I'll have to ask Robby if he'll put a small Cougartown.com plug on his car when he comes out for the Phoenix Race in November. "Drive It Like Ya Stole It"
Alan, We had a great time and no I wasn't wearing my Cougartown Tshirt. I should have been wearing my Sonoma Creek Winery shirt though as it was their party and Mike Doyle and partner David did a super job with the food and drinks. Mike took us on a Nascar Tour of the pits and did a great job answering all our questions. The day was a fun day for all of the Sonoma Creek people who were there. Thanks a million Mike and Dave........

Message: This message goes to all that had a Teacher by the name of Mr. Escalante who used to teach at York Elementary school. Just taking a vote to see how many got the "Eraser" or the "Ruler"? You see he wasn't a bad teacher but he expected total focus on your study and if you were caught talking well.... look out. I had a few erasers thrown at me in the 5th grade and a couple of ruler slap down on my desk. My buddie Mike Weiss I think was the King of all receiver because he was called "Motormouth" by the teacher. Mr. Escalante even threw eraser/slamp rulers on girl's desks too. Now, how would that be in today's standards? I'm wondering if he's still in the teaching business. Also, does anyone know the whereabouts of Mr. Jennings? He used to teach 6th grade at York Elementary School then became Principal at Hawthorne Intermediate School. I'm seeking him because in the 6th grade our class made a video called "Vandalism, Why?" I would love to review that film for old times sake.

Message: Hey all you Cougs out there...I just got done watching an excellent special on the Beach Boys on the AMC channel called "Endless Harmony". Much better than that docu-drama that ABC did recently. This is actual footage, interviews, video, etc. of the band and others who respected and were influenced by them. They even show some of Hawthorne High and our Cougar motto! The music is great, so is the footage and stories, all told by the Beach Boys themselves, and those who were actually there. You can own a video tape, or DVD or buy the soundtrack to this by going to the AMC American Pop website (www.ampop.com). I hightly suggest those who loved the Beach Boys and were proud to come from the same town as them to check it out. It was the best special I've seen on them yet!

Message: Hey, Liz Castanon! Don't let that flat land in Amarillo get you down. I used to pass thru there all the time driving 18 wheelers cross country. Soon as I hit Amarillo going west bound, I knew there were only 70 miles left til New Mexico. The only non-redeeming part of the city id the smelly stock yard west of town. In the summer it gets down-right rank. Other than that, A-town ain't that bad. For truckers, it's the half way point between New Mexico and Oklahoma and Texas' stupid speed limits. To be honest with you, I'd trade Amarillo for California anyday.

He played French horn! You band geeks aren't bad at all, let me tell ya! I'll e-mail ya soon, O.K. I am curious to see how it is living in a foreign country. Must be interesting. And I'll tell ya about semi-hick livin' in Oregon wine and hazelnut country, how's that? Mo Trott...the first place I lived in when I moved to Oregon was Coos Bay. The Blue Heron does have the best apple pie I've ever eaten. I wonder if it's still there? I haven't been there since I moved in 1983. Message: You know JOHN I got my t-shirt the other day and I am soooo happy to finally have one. My wife doesn't think too much of CT but she really thought the t-shirt was great! I even got a sense of jealousy from her (but please forgive her for she not only went to school here in Portland but it was an all-catholic girl school.) I tell my wife the things we did on campus that makes here want to relive her life at a High School like HHS. The things we did like on hot sunny days we in English class would take out our desk outside not only to study but be a part of the outdoors, the pep rallies, which was always fun to go to, the voting of your favorite class President and others and those who dressed up for that occasion, the band who I think played some really good music, the social feed which I only attended a few because we had to focus on football, the slide show at the end of the year which always put a tear in my eye especially my SENIOR YEAR because it was all too fast coming to an end. Even some of the teachers made me feel accepted like the principal George Keys who I sat behind him during the CIF Basketball games and sounded off the air horn in his ear and all he did was give me a smile. Maybe we should put some money into a Cougartown retirement community so we can enjoy the rest/last of our years together (I know who I want to be my neighbor). Thanks to you all in feedback for keeping up the GREAT memories! Does anyone knows the whereabout of Chris (c/81) and Jeff (c/80) Tully? Those guys really cracked me up whether I was wrestling with one of running with the other. I sure hope they're still kicking?
