Message: What a coincidence....I was just talking about Konnie Krislock today!!! It was during a conversation about being called to the principal's office...LOL...and the only 2 times I have been in there is for journalism...and to that I credit dear Ms. Krislock. The first was for writing a story about what happens when you call the "Pregnant? Worried?" ad that was always in The Cougar...Mr. Key asked me to use more discretion in my pieces. The second was just after Ms. Krislock left...I did a piece on rape and had a teacher as a source who shared her story, albeit anonymously. I was again reminded to use discretion. Great to see that others will continue to be blessed by your tutorage Konnie!!

Message: Haven't posted in a long time but I'm always lurking in the shadows. In fact I probably throw off all the "visitor stats" by checking for new posts every hour or so. Anyway, I stand by my post on page 512 and confirmed by mom on the same page that our run is going to be hard to beat. A run across 5 straight decades. 50's Mom (Jody) & Uncle (Denny), 60's Aunt (Judy), 70's Me, 80's brother (Bruce) & 90's daughter (Reannen). It looks like the run is going to stop there. 77'ers get a hold of the reunion committee and get yourself signed up! I'll now return to the shadows. Take care all.
Hey Bob, Thanks for the update and yes, VERY impressive run there too. 77ers and all others, please check into the Cougartown Info System and add or update your information so you can be contacted for your reunions.

Message: ALERT: Konnie Krislock is back in the classroom. I am teaching yearbook at the Orange County High School of the Arts in Santa Ana every other morning (on a blockschedule) and just this month, the school has decided to have a school newspaper. Now if that doesn't put fear in the hearts of administrators everywhere, nothing will. We have one edition to come out May 4 and then we'll see how it goes. The 240-page yearbook was finished on schedule this week, and with 10 early days (Rich Allen, eat your heart out); we sold $13,000 in ads (that's not a typo) and made about $7,500 on sales. Hopefully, some of the profits will help support the newspaper so we don't have to sell ads for that. For those of you doing the math, I will be 66 years old in May; I think after my around-the-world cruise last year, it is time for me to get busy once again, doing the thing I love the best--teaching high school kids.
Hey Konnie, I was wondering where you got off to. Thanks very much for the update, as I know you have many, many HHS journalism students right here in Ctown. Good Luck with the new job and please check back with us every so often.

Message: I just finished watching the McDonalds high school all-star basketball game, which show cases the best high school players in the country. On the West squad, there's a player named Kevin Love. He played for Lake Oswego high in Oregon. The TV announcer said that Kevin Love is the nephew of Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love. Kevin is also the cousin of Beach Boys Brian Wilson. Kevins father Stan Love, is a former NBA player who played college ball at Oregon, and is the brother of Mike Love. Kevin will leave the state of Oregon to play college basketball at UCLA when school starts next fall. His father Stan publicly criticized his college alma mater and U of Oregon basketball coach Ernie Kent, for not recruiting his son harder. It seems to me though, that Kevin had his mind made up on UCLA, because he really wanted to play for coach Ben Howland. The TV announcer said that Kevin had two Beach Boys songs on his iPod. They're "Good Vibrations" and "Help Me Rhonda." I wondered if his father Stan went to HHS, but he didn't. He went to Morningside high. Anyway, congrats to the Bruins for a top blue chipper in Kevin Love. Maybe now we'll see the Beach Boys on TV attending Bruin basketball games. By the way, did anyone here see "The UCLA Dynasty" on HBO this week? Excellent documentary.

Message: I have to put my two cents in on the Stone family as I am proud to say I was Jake Stones third grade teacher at Peter Burnett School. Jake is Dennis Stone's son. What a terrific kid and a wonderful family. Jake was quite the flirt and asked me to marry him using Conversation Hearts we were using to learn division around Valentine's day. I told him I would have to ask Mr. Fraser first. It was priceless.
And the Stones just keep on a comin'... Thanks Karen, Great story....

Message: Well, I've got a decent Cougar run if you count "steps" My Mom was married to Don Whippo whose two children Davey and Doreen both went to HHS. I don't recall when Doreen graduated but I believe Dave was 1973 which puts him at HHS circa 1969. Then my Mom married Bob Cheek and his two oldest children, Brian and Robin, both graduated from HHS -- if I recall correctly, Robin was '75 and Brian was '76. I graduated in 77. Then my nieces (Shannon, Michelle and Kristen Bamrick) all attended HHS graduating in '92, '96 and '00 respectively. That means Shannon was started at HHS in 1988. So this run spanned 31 years, albeit with an 11 year break, and 4 different last names! Had lunch with Bevan Feist the other day -- great to see him and he still looks tough as ever!
Thanks Dan, that's a great run of HHSers. Anyone else?

I have been moved to class of "80" for some goofy reason so you can't find my info in our alumni list unless you look in the 1980 list. Anyway, count me in for May. Did you ever see the pictures Michelle took last time at the Cheesecake Factory? Are you sure El Segundo can handle us Hawthorne girls?
Hi Lori, You're listed under the class of 78 again. Thanks....

Message: I apologize. I failed to mention that in the Stone family span of Larry to Dennis (19 years) Momma Jean Stone packed NINE kids in there! Larry, Greg, John, Chris, Lincoln, Lisa, Jimmy, Jennifer, Dennis. There MUST be a record somewhere in that! Now perhaps Harry Plotkin holds the record for the most Stone kids to come through his class? And to Sue Jolly - Susan LaFever was my classmate since elementary school. NO WONDER you always looked so familiar to me - it's Susan that I'm seeing in your face! Please give her my fond regards!
My grandmother Baker used to play cards with grandmother Julia LaFever...or was it a great grandmother? Still a small world...

Message: I think it is possible that the Stone family may hold the record. The oldest child, Larry Stone (now King) graduated in 1972 and his youngest sibling Dennis was 19 years and 1 day younger than he was. Don't recall exactly what year Dennis finished HHS but they all went through Hawthorne schools as they lived at 4905 W. 133rd. Wow, what a run! I suspect there may even be a teacher or two who may have seen EVERY LAST STONE KID in class!!!
Great run Sue, but the Jensen clan stretched 24 years. That's the HHS record for siblings so far Unless you figure Loretta Morelli Cuiper HHS1962 and her son, Eric HHS2000 for a stretch of 38 years. Who else can beat that one?
