P.S. JB - I hear that Cory and Kristen Reagan are expecting in September.
Yes they are, Congrats to Cory and Kristen and to HHS 62 Grand Daddy, Bob Reagan and wife Vicki... The world needs more Reagans.

Message: Dale I didn't know you work with the Special Olympics. I used to do that all the time. Every summer for about 5 years at the LA Games and I actually met the Hawaii people at the WInter International Games up in Reno. They invited me to Hawaii and I ended up staying. I used to get asked to go all over the country to different ones. Is Rafer Johnson still the head honcho. Met Sargent Shriver and Eunice Shriver several times. Myself and Arnold introduced the weight lifting when it was a demo sport in LA. We tried to get armwrestling in there since the kids loved it so much but it is very hard to get a sport involved in the S.O. Every chapter has to approve it. I think back then it was 33,000 of them worldwide. Not sure but something like that. It is a great organization. Love the kids.

Message: Danny, I love it. lol Eddie Longmore, (Eddie Lawnmower gang). That really brings back memories to me not because of Eddie Longmore, but because when I was a kid I thought the "Save at Sav-On" jingle was "Shame on Sav-on." I'm sure we all have stories like that. I have been singing many 60's songs wrong for years and didn't know it. My husband hears me singing songs from the past and says, "What? That's not what they are saying." Thanks Dan for the chuckle.
I always thought "My Eyes Adored You" was "My Eyes Of Georgia"

Message: That photo of those kids brings to mind the legend of "Eddie Lawnmower's Gang". He reportedly lived in the Del-Aire area, and would have been about the age of those kids. Everyone knew of him .. even my parents, and, of course, they didn't know anything. If a garbage can was knocked over out front my dad would say, "It must have been Eddie Lawnmower's gang". I never saw the guy but he remained kind of a murky legend. Was there ever really an Eddie Lawnmower? Maybe I have him mixed up with "Edward Scissorhands".
His name wasn't Eddie Lawnmower, but Eddie Longmore. Eddie was the original spaceman I think I tried to steer clear of Eddie. It just seemed he liked it where the trouble was. I was in Inglewood with a bunch of guys once, standing on the Manchester overpass overlooking the 405 freeway. Well Eddie decides to do a handstand on the railing. I immediately left the area.

Message: Fred Moore was a good friend of my dad's. (Sorry John) He really was a nice guy, just a tough cop. By the way, I don't remember him every giving me a ticket. lol He and Blackie (another Hawthorne cop in the 50's and 60's) used to work as security at the VFW dances on Saturday nights. Blackie caught me making out with my boyfriend in the parking lot one night and told me if I didn't get back inside he was going to tell my dad. That was warning enough for me.
I'm sure Fred was friends with a few people. He just didn't like kids.

Sorry, I didn't get much time to talk to you John. Where were the Bierman girls? I thought you wanted the dirt on Mr. Spaulding. Thank you again John for this great site.
Hey Sharon, Too far for the Bierman clan to come to eat, I guess. Good talking with you and Jim too and thanks for being there. Great turnout.

Message: Rick Mckelvey's mention of Anthony Stellino reminded me of a class picture my Mom gave me from St. John's Catholic School in Inglewood. I went there for 2nd grade, even though we lived in Hawthorne. I had to take the city bus to the school bus stop in Inglewood to get to the school on Manchester. I walked from home to the bus stops and back every day. I think if you sent a 7 year old on the city bus alone across town today, you'd get arrested for child neglect. Anyway, while looking at the picture I saw that Anthony was one of my classmates there, I didn't even realize it at the time we went to HHS. As far as Jim Covell, I was able to locate the whole Covell Clan. Jimmy, Pat, Gina and Mike. Their Mom lives out here in Lake Havasu.

Message: To Karen and Jack. Yes, Joan Marso is alive and well and does reside in Redondo Beach. I saw her as late as last Saturday at the Los Angeles Times Travel Show as we both are in the travel industry. She owns her own company and represents the Castaways Resort and Outrigger Resort in Fiji. We cross paths about three times a year at different trade functions. She is very good at what she does and would be the first person I would call for clients looking to go to Fiji.

Message: Had a fun moment last night...not exactly a "Cougar Sighting" but one of those moments that takes you back. I was watching "16 Candles" and grading papers and there is a scene in which Matt Dillon looks at Molly Ringwald's pic in her yearbook...well, surrounding her pic are the pics of at least 3 of the Hoffarth clan, Tom, Tammy and Timmy. Thank God for DVR cuz I was able to rewind and freeze. Tom's dad, Tom Sr., worked at a company that provided props for movies and TV so the family was always popping up in the strangest places. "Hoffarth's Cayenne Pepper" in a Little House episode, another yearbook in the movie Soapdish, a newspaper headline in another flick....you just had to be on the ball to catch them. Happy Valentines Day to all!
