Message: I saw the Beach Boys at the Prom!!!!! I was so excited just to be going to the prom, I was John Romano's date, (wonder what ever happened to him) and then the BEACH BOYS!!! But the real first concert was at UCSB, Rod Stewart "Every Picture Tells a Story" tour, took my little sister Cathie (Escovedo) Beers Class of 75. Remember when you would drive up 101 into Santa Barbara and see all the hitchhikers, well we picked up a couple people to join in on the fun...My little sister later told me she was scared to death the whole time, as people were dancing all around and the air had a fuuny smell to it. I just remember having a great time...

Message: First concert....It was 1963 (about) and I am pretty sure it was at the L.A. Sports Arena....A lot of performers....I remember a very early Stevie Wonder, Martha and the Vandelas, The Chiffons and who ever sang Deep Purple something...and the song Hey Paula.....I think the Beach Boys too....I know I saw them at the Sports arena....Just can't recall if it was the first one. I know there were lots of singers...and I think KFWB had something to do with it...or KRLA....that was 47 years ago!!!!

Message: First concert, (if you can consider going with your parents and grandparents "going to a concert"), was Jose Feliciano, and the Baja Marimba Band at the Hollywood Bowl in about 1967 or '68. My first REAL concert was Crosby Stills Nash and Young at the Forum in 1970. In the nearly 40 years since that "first" one, I could probably fill 2 or 3 pages of Feedback with all the others I've been to.

Message: Good topic; My first concert was at the old Cinnamon Cinder at the Long Beach traffic circle in the city of Long Beach. The featured entertainer was Dick Dale and the Deltones, one of the premier local surfer bands at the time. I think my date was Arlene Masters who I'm now married to, however, it could have been someone else as I have killed a lot of brain cells in the past 40+ years and have CRS most of the time. I think it's my OLD TIMERS disease kicking in which I use as an excuse quite frequently when I don't want to get in trouble at home LOL.

Message: My first concert was Neil Diamond's at the Greek Theater. It was freshman year (fall '75) and my mom was a HUGE fan!! She let me ditch a day to go with her to stand in line for tickets..when upper classmate Arno Portegies heard I was going he asked if I would buy tickets for him. I did and being the gentleman he was he then took me to the concert. What a guy!! We stood in line for 8 hours up the road from the theater but what a show!! I remember hearing people fall out of the trees surrounding the theater. Great night.

Message: My first concert (other than the ones in the gym at HHS), was The Rascals at the Anaheim Convention Center in 1969. I double dated with Mike Mahr. He drove. I have no recollection on who he took to the gig, but I took my long time girlfriend from Gardena High. I even remember the opening act, Bonnie and Delany and Friends.

Message: Hey, John Boy; When you get to Maui, Redondo Beach or ?, say hello to Dennis Campbell or Keith Jones, good hunting. Just tryin to stir the pot, nobody posts anymore. I guess after 996 pages, everyone is running out of topics and things to say. Put on your thinking caps and dig deep into your memory for some old Hawthorne related stories and/or experiences, they're entertaining. John Boy, did you get my check or is it still in the mail?

Message: Hey, Bierman girls - I watched Denver & the Mile High Orchestra last night! Very refreshing! Their shirt and tie look is a great message to the youth of today. I'm quite sick of the grubby look. The judges were a bit harsh. I hope they stick it out and get the exposure to afford them a shot at success! Also, good to hear from Steve Fraser - my sister and I were just talking about him and hoping he was doing well. I'd like to start a new topic - best/first Concert attended. Mine was the Beatles at Dodger Stadium. Betty

Message: Good to see Stevie again. Keep up the good work! You water polo guys were always tougher than anyone gave you credit. John pulling the nets is another subject that has some lasting affects. Apparently John has not disclosed this but he is quite a celebrity around the USC campus. They don't refer to him as Mr. Cougartown or the King of Cougartown as we do but rather Mr. Souvenir. The third touch down the night John was there 'pulling the nets' they actually chanted 'SOUVENIR SOUVENIR SOUVENIR!" The following game Lee's new crew actually got booed when John was not among the group of net pullers. We love ya maaaaaan!

Message: Howard Duran, Great pictures, It's hard to believe we ever looked like that. We were all about 25/30 pounds lighter and John Nix and Tom Barnett still had hair back in those days LOL. That picture of you and Sharon is great, as I recall though, instead of using a garden hose up your pants to enhance your manlyhood you used to use a baking potato. However, you could never remember if the potato was supposed to go in the front or the back of your pants LOL. Good Times.

Message: My husband was watching Shark and I could hear it from the other room. When I heard "Hawthorne", I came around the corner in time to see Chips Restaurant with the steeple of St. Joe's in the background. I asked my hubby if he recognized the location (I drove him by it when we were in town for the Foster's Cruise). He didn't - but it still was fun to see some place I remember as the backdrop in a TV show :)

My therapist says that soon I'll be on TV on "Are You Smarter Than A 3rd Grader". The 66/67 reunion was great! My golf game still stinks, but on the other side, Bud, Wade and Jill will have to ante up my fees for the next C-Town Golf Gala.Ta-Ta for now. How's Keith? I really miss him. P.S. The Las Vegas bookies are giving odds 5-2 guilty.

Message: I was pretty excited to see "Our Town" on Shark also. I had just come into the room and the first thing I noticed was St. Jo's steeple behind Chips. Then I realized that the restaurant was there too!! I thought I had heard "Hawthorne Blvd." mentioned in the previous dialogue, but thought I was just hearing things. I wish I could've paid closer attention to the program. Did they show anything else of Hawthorne that I missed? I think I'll go to the CBS site and watch it on my computer and see.

Message: Attention all you early classes; Jerry Miles has just added the speeches from the class of 54-56 50 year reunion to our
video page. Coach Hal Chauncey, Coach Dave Capelouto, Coach Jim Pfeiffer, Ron Mix, Joe Contestabile, Bill Cooper etc. are all there. Some videos had to be split into 2 parts so be sure to see both. We're very lucky to have these videos as these people were the Genesis of Hawthorne High School. Thanks very much to Rich Sloan HHS60, who took these gems, and to Jerry Miles who broke them into segments and uploaded them for all to see. I hope you all enjoy them as much as I did.
