Message: The passing of George Gross is indeed a sad event. I met George at HHS through my brother Skip and the baseball program. He was always one to treat underclassmen well. I served in the army with George, as we went through training together and shipped to Vietnam at the same time. I hadn't seen nor heard from him in 30 yrs until last years Cougartown golf tournament. I'll always consider him a friend and a truly nice man. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

Message: Hi Cougs, following a year of replanting to Indiana I thought it best to let you all know that there is plenty corn for fuel growing in this state. Must be their state crop. Even the Indy cars are running it ... thought it best to bestow a little Cougar love to the midwest racers. Actually, miss checking in and thought I'd reach out and ask if there are any Cougs in or around Indianapolis ... my new turf. Doing prof work at Marian College as well as being their director of motorsports. Cool runnings with the local racers and they are aplenty. Those interested in Indy-Cougar talk, do yak back ... ddixon@marian.edu or 888.963.RACE - cell #. Cheers 'n gears JB and take care of my dad's workbench. Off to the SEMA Show in Vegas - anyone going? Give me a shout. Miss ya all and you're not forgotten.
Hey Dick, well I was wondering where you got off to. Indy was just a little too far away from CA, huh? Do us Qmidget guys proud at Marian and chime in here anytime.

Message: When we were choosing up sides for any game or sport at York School, George Gross was always one of the first ones picked. And when nature starts picking an all-star team --that must of held true. Never once did he say, "that's a bad idea," which led to many strange situations. All great memories of warm summer days and growing up as slowly as possible. "Good night sweet prince." Rest in peace.

Message: yes taking care of his ailing wife prevents him from much outside activities( George always was a loyal guy!) It warmed my heart to hear him say that he loved his job as principal at HHS in the 70s and he tells his friend he was glad to go to work every day with one annual exception, he didn't particularly like graduation because so many students he had come to know and enjoy would be leaving. My class (76) gave George an honorary diploma at our senior breakfast because he spent his first four years at HHS (72-76) with us and we were blessed to have such an outstanding principal. I know you earlier folks had Wally Nyman but George was in large part the "Key" to our success in high school and we wouldn't have traded him for anyone!
I agree Clark, George Key was THE most popular Principal at HHS. Jorge, where are you?

Message: Cougar Siting - Returned yesterday from a Mexican Riviera cruise and ran into Shannon (Lester) Hagerty (c/o 75)and her husband on board. Luckily we did get a chance to get caught up with each other on our first sighting, as after that it was just to say hi as passing on our way to activities. The California fires were the talk of the ship, and hopefully Shannon's relatives are okay, as they had to be evacuated in Fallbrook.
Hey Annette, Thanks very much for the Cougar Sighting. I've never had one, but someday. Maybe I should wear a Ctown Tshirt

Message: Gloria A. Ramos-Jaime of HHS '90 and Sandra Castillo Suarez of LHS '72 were endorsed by The Daily Breeze in a recent editorial dated 10/23. In the article, it states, "Challengers Gloria Ramos-Jaime and Sandra Suarez, who have the backing of the Centinela Valley Secondary Teachers Association, want to replace Arroyo and Ramirez and place increased emphasis on communication among administrators, parents, teachers, students and the community." The Daily Breeze agrees with our challengers perspective. Before Tuesday November 6th, please take a moment to get to know Gloria and Sandra. Go here where you will find photos and their personal letters to the community. Your time and consideration is deeply appreciated. And, Thank You John Baker for helping me find a great photo of Gloria!
I have met both Sandra and Gloria and know their committment to our community. This to me, is a "no brainer". Thanks Terrence and you are welcome for the picture.

I do normally read feedback every night, but last night had a house full of people watching our BSU Broncos game, so didn't have a chance to read it until this morning. My thoughts have been with all of you that have been affected by those terrible fires, my prayers are with you.
Hey Sharon, Broncos looked good last night, as usual. Thanks for the Feedback and glad to know you're still with us.

Message: I have been using Sky Cam View to do some research in purchasing some property and decided to plug in some addresses in Hawthorne. It was fun looking into the back yards of childhood friends where we use to play. Many have not changed in the last 45 years and others have just about vanished do to the additions to the homes. Check it out and relive your childhood memories.

Message: Hi John, Reading Debbie's message is a reminder for me. I lived briefly in Henderson NV in '03 and had meant to sneak up on George Gross, stealth-like as I love to do just to "mess with him." I only knew him for a year and recall him often being flanked by other "all time greats" like Schroeder, DeMary & Perry Ray. He was just, plain cool and fun! Again, say it or do it today...no one promises us tomorrow. My best to his family. Jim
Thanks Jim and yes George was just one great guy, as are all the Gross boys. I saw George last, at last year's Cougartown golf dinner at Gaetano's in Torrance. I'll miss you George.

Message: With a heavy heart I have to pass on some bad news that happened in my family today. George Gross (class of 65) has passed away. Please pray for our family. My Aunt Carol Gross was George's High school sweetheart, as many of you may know. They were inseparable and have never spent a day apart from each other. Our family is in tremendous pain and we are asking all of you to please keep us in your prayers. This is a shock to all of us and he will be deeply missed. Please pray for Carol. Thank you. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
This is a real shock.... George was a very good friend back in our Hawthorne days. My sincere condolences to you Debbie, and to Carol, Art, Bob, Denny, and the rest of the Gross family in their hour of sorrow. George was a great guy and will be truly missed.

Message: Thanks to all the well-wishers and concerned classmates on our fires in the San Diego area. It truly has been scary. For the past few days, since Sunday, I've been helping at an assisted living/nursing home on the edge of an evacuation area in Encinitas/Carlsbad. We were one street away from the mandatory evacuation block on Monday. Stand-by is very stressful!! We still have a lot of smoke/ash/soot falling from the sky and the sun is still an orangy disk. My home in Vista was never closer than 10 miles from the nearest fire, but so many friends have been burned out beyond those perimeters and it's not completely over yet. Thanks for the prayers and thoughts. Our police, firefighters and CalTrans workers are all true heroes and you can bet I will be thanking each and every one of them I meet.

Kris and Denise have been up north since 1972, now in San Jose. We have been in contact, (holiday greetings) with them for years but have not seen them, it was great to see them both. Hope all is well with our Cougar Family in fire areas...you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Thanks Karen....

Message: I took my morning walk with my paper filter mask and it looked like snow in places with all the ash. The sun shining through the smoke makes everything look orange. I have a better tan now. My daughter Tina lives in Temecula where the local schools, Jr and High are closed today and maybe tomorrow. Talia is playing an exibition game at The Honda Center tonight between periods and may have problems with road closers..One of the teachers my g'son has, QB Wayne Cook, says the fire is close to his house and had to leave. I found that the air conditioner really helps...Later.
