Message: Back in 1962 Alan Hauge's folks let me put my newly bought '28 model 'A' shell of a car in the lot behind their house. I would get inside and dream of the day I would be cruising Hawthorne Blvd. with my olds powered coupe. This coupe would be the coolest of them all. Alan would paint it a deep candy burgundy with white pearl flames. Oh well, a guy can dream can't he? Finally, reality came to the surface and into the Navy I went, leaving all those dreams behind. It was just a window in time when all things seem to be perfect.
Look on the bright side Jim, it's probably a Chevy now

Message: The San Diego Fires are castastrophic. I was evacuated on Monday and stayed with a co-worker. I was fortunate to have not lost my home and was able to return yesterday but so many people here have suffered unbelievable losses. Over 500,000 have been evacuated and there have been over 2000 homes lost and counting. There have been 7 lives lost, and many firefighter injuries. Please keep good thoughts and prayers for the good people of San Diego. It's a great place and the communities have pulled together with great support to one another.

Message: Hello to all. Lots of COOL NEW stuff here at Cougartown Central. I see my brother is finally a "contributor" to the Hawthorne High/John Baker legacy webpage, cool beans Eric! Mr. Tank, sorry to have missed the Reunion, Bobby ...I DID get lost again! (joke). JB you out did yourself with the Cougle engine- how far out is that? The Cars We Drove page is bitchen, it brought back faint a recollection of 1969, Joe Caminski would give a bunch of us a ride to HHS from out of the Del Aire section. He would pull up in front of Rich Greedus' place on Judah & 119th, we would all pile into his heap, a 50's Chrysler. Normally riders included Joe, Rich, Craig Foster, Eric and ever who wanted a ride, but due to my underclassmanship I'd get stuffed into the trunk. Heck it was a "ride"...anyway I would stick my hand up out of the rear deck (speaker) hole and as Joe drove I would do this "trippy" animated robotic "peace sign" gesture with my hand...Joe told everyone who saw it that it was a new battery operated deal from Funhaven! So I turned being at the bottom of the pecking order into a good thing, through my resilient creativity. Sometimes Joe would ask me to flip the bird when at stop lights so the car behind would get a jolt! Hey it was a "ride"....and I got a lot of laughs!

Message: I'm here in Honolulu on some "R&R" and through the wonders of technology was able to read Cougartown and I see many postings regarding the Old Standards and Icons that we all know and remember which have gone away. There was an Icon here in Honolulu that gave up the "ghost" five years ago; the "World Famous Kodak Hula Show" in Kapiolani Park. This free show was performed by the seasoned natives here for at least fifty years (give or take) and I did see it once in the mid-eighties and the participants at that time were senior citizens. But, five years ago was 2002 only a few months after 9-11 which probably had something to do with its closure as well (low attendance). Aloha........
