Message: For more than 20 yrs, my mother worked @ Kenneth Chevrolet Used Cars on 120th St & Hawthorne Blvd. I also worked there as a "lot boy" (translation: car washer & gopher), as did my older brother, Jeff. Needless to say, all of our vehicles came from Kenneth. Shortly after graduating from HHS, Al Bellucci, Gen. Mgr., sold me a stock, '64 Chevy 409 w/ bucket seats, built-in tach, w/ 4 speed for $400.00. I tricked it out a bit w/ new paint, big tires & Cragar mags. Pretty quick for a big car. (Looked like a low-rider, ran like a race car). I particularly remember that from '55 through '58, especially, we would go to Kenneth up in the "circle" to witness the unveiling of the new Chevy line, then go to Chaffee to see the new Fords. It was tradition in our family. -Gibby-

Message: John, to answer your post. Ken Murphy was not related to the Buick dealer... His Father was George Murphy, not the senator, the business man... The Maui ranch was home to a herd of white cattle. Ken had one as a rug in his family room. Taken by accident. You are coming near your ten year anniversary... May you enjoy hundreds more. To borrow from Mr. Hope. Thanks for the memories.

Message: Mike Mecey thanks for bringing back some good warm memories with your words about Kenneth Chevrolet. I always thought it was special of them when the new models were coming out and they would 'paper up' the showroom windows to 'hide' the new models that were placed on the floor BEFORE the official introduction date but, this seemed to always draw lots of people INTO the showroom to oogle over the new designs. I still recall going in there in 1954 and sitting in a new '54 Bel Air sedan in that soft turquoise & cream paint scheme and wishing my folks would buy one just like it. I always thought 'Kenneth' was the owners last name rather than his first. (Why? Heck if I know- -I guess most businesses seemed to be named from their last names like Northrop, Mote's, Chaney's etc. I'm very happy that Kenneth is alive and well up there in the quiet and lovely community of Rocklin. Oh, does he still drive a Chevy?

Message: Have had lots of email asking about the Cougartown Picnic this month. At present it is on hold. As soon as we can get a venue and a date I'll add it right here on Feedback. Thanks to all for your inquiries.
On another subject: If you've recently sent for your Cougartown Password and have not received it, it could be your email system or spam filter is blocking it. Please check your trash directory to see if it's there and set your blocking filter to accept email from jb1@cougartown.com and john140@ca.rr.com
Also if you've recently sent for your password

Message: Another pair of random Cougar sighting flows from the '77 reunion. At Fiesta Hermosa yesterday, I separately ran into JB's neighbor John Heine ('77) and Tracy Turner ('78) -- both of whom I had not seen (until the reunion) in 30 years! If you're keeping score, that's 3 random Cougar sightings in one week!

Message: Cougar sighting (sort of) Recently I started getting my hair cut from a new barber in town. Naturally the "where you from" topic came up. He grew up in Palos Verdes and we traded SoCal stories. In a recent trip to get my ears lowered, I met his dad who was in his shop, and again we started with the SoCal stories. I mentioned I was from Hawthorne and boy did "Dad" open up. I was talking to Kenneth L. Murphy...(any guesses yet)... The owner of Kenneth Chevrolet. We traded Kenneth Chevrolet stories and I told him how I couldn't hardly wait until the next year's model would be unveiled. It was almost like Christmas... the '55 '56 '57 '58 '59, all new and different. He told me how the City of Hawthorne took his business away from him to build the Hawthorne Mall.(by the way, how's the mall doing?.. Haven't been to the ole city in yeeeears.) I told him about this site. Saturday when I went in to do the hair thing, his son (the barber) said his dad had gone to the Cougar site and was happy to see some pictures of his dealership. He said it was like someone remembered him. Kenneth is well & retired in Rocklin, CA

Message: Tou'che Doris, But, boys will be boys,...and we will always argue sports (it's in our genes). I say, Willie Mays was the best, some other guy will say Duke Snider, or Joe Dimaggio, and so it goes. But, as far as supporting the Cougs, always. That's soooooooooo personal, genuine and heartfelt. And, I think, JB picks a home game, Cougartown, turnout each year? Right, John?

Message: Well if Colt Brennan keeps up like he did last night for the University of Hawaii we just may have our first Heisman trophy winner from UH. 6 touchdowns, 416 yards in just the first half. He didn't even play in the second half. UH won 63 to 6 I think. Have any Cougars gone the UH here.

Message: Ronald "Too Bad" Coleman -- class-0-'66, may be a suspect. He owns property here in Oregon, but is a wandering troubadour operating out of a mobile camping unit, constantly testing the surf and the benevolence of the local gendarmes. He had the distinction of growing up next door to (class president) Tom DeMary and had his mouth washed out with soap by Mrs. "Tommy Gun" Thompson in 3rd grade at good old York. Could it be his philanthropic bequeath to Cougartown?

Message: I really wanted to go to Cruise Night, but it wasn't possible. I was staying with my little sister, Noreen, and she was on the '71-'72 reunion committee. She had to be at the Hacienda Hotel early to help set up the room before the guests arrived at 6:00PM. She wanted to be there at 4:00 PM and that was the same time as the Cruise. Her duties were far more important than me driving my oldie to Foster's. You're my buddy JB, but she's my little sister....she won!!!!!!!!!!
