Message: Hello Cougars Class of 62: The girl in the picture, upper left-hand corner, is Sandy Batory. She lived on 117th street. Don't have a clue where she is now. But, she was a sweetie. I think the last person to see her was George Rea or Daryl Lundquist. I believe one of them was locked together with her in a "slow dance". Thanks, Kathy (Tift) Mandel-Reese
Hi Kathy, Hope all's well, and thanks for the information on Sandy.

Message: I can recall donkey basketball in my freshman year at HHS (64-65) There are pictures of it in the year book for that year. I am certain it was teachers vs students...they all rode donkeys. I think the teachers won that year!
Thanks Jean....

Message: I never heard of donkey basketball when I was in school. The first time I saw or heard of it was in the late 70's at my kids school, Garden Grove High. My son-in-law was a teacher and played in the games, but they had to stop doing that because of the damage to the gym floors.
As I remember the donkeys wore soft shoes. So it was after 56 and before 62. Thanks Marilyn for the info. Maybe the Ol' Coach, Hal Chaucey has the answer.

Message: Donkey basketball....wow..that brings good memories. I so badly wanted to be a player and didn't get picked. I don't know how one (student) gets selected to be on the team. But it was played all 4 yrs I went to HHS (77 to 81). Funny it was mentioned because 2 weeks ago our local High School here in the Portland area (Westview H.S.) played the game. I had to work and sadly missed it but next year I'm definately going to go to it! I too wonder if HHS still has it played there today. OH the poor wooden floorboard...hope the donkeys didn't do much damage!
So it was played in 81. Any later or earlier than 62?

2. Does the tradition continue today?
Good question Kathleen, Not sure when it started but it was going on in 1962. Can anyone tell us if there was a Donkey Basketball tradition at HHS in the 50s or the 80s, 90s??

Message: Hey John, Here is a sad Story from the Daily Breeze. Mike worked for Hermosa Beach P.D. And he was a great teacher at El Camino. Me and Walt Krumbach 77 took a few classes together with Mike. He was a great teacher and helped us all learn about Law Enforcement. He did really Love El Camino and his Students. RIP. Services set for ECC police chief From staff reports Services for El Camino College Police Chief Michael D'Amico are scheduled for Saturday at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach. The service at the church at 624 15th St. will begin at 10 a.m., El Camino College police Sgt. Jonathon Ott said The 58-year-old chief was discovered dead in bed Wednesday at his Hermosa Beach home. He had been feeling ill for a few days and failed to arrive at work. The Coroner's Office has not determined the cause of death. Police said foul play was not involved. "Mike was well known for his unwavering loyalty to the college," El Camino College President Thomas M. Fallo said in a statement. "He loved El Camino College and El Camino College loved him back. He will be truly missed by many."
Thanks for the story, Dennis, and very sorry for Mike's loss to our community.

Message: I started creating a website for my Belton (Texas) HS Class of '60 in late Feb. '07, using Yahoo's free software SiteBuilder. Yours looks SO PROFESSIONAL! What software are you using? I love what you've done with your Favorite Teachers Page. I'm having difficulty getting classmates to participate. The ones who do are very faithful, though. Our school was small, with only 68 graduates in 1960. My site is at www.beltonclassof60.com, if you want to see my humble efforts! Good luck! Jan Stoehr
Hey Jan, Don't give up as your site is only a couple of months old and looks great. Cougartown took a good 2 years to hook up and is still growing. No HTML software here. I started before they had software to write HTML
