Message: A memory of summer days gone by.....remember when the carnival was in town every year and we would have the parade? My favorite part of the parade was the group on the old fire engine - I'm not sure how things got started, but I think they had fire extinquishers filled with water and would squirt at the crowd. Then we (actually my brothers and their friends had the idea) started taking water balloons and throwing them at the guys. I remember the year the police came around and made us break all of our balloons before the parade started.....what a drag..... We would all wander down Cedar, to El Segundo Blvd and watch them go by. The parade would line up on Cedar in front of our house, so we always had a first look at some of the entries. Boy, the memories that come back when reading through these pages. I know for sure I won't make it to cruise night. We were in San Francisco this weekend, and really had our dose of people everywhere we went. Freeways, traffic, signals (we have one here in Coalinga), I'll probably never get Jim to a big city again! We even had trouble getting to church because we were on one side of Columbus, and the church was on the other. The problem - the San Francisco/Chronicle Marathon. We had to park and walk. Couldn't drive across, more than 5000 runners. Then, when we tried to go to the Golden Gate Park, all entrances were closed, even 101. But - we ended up finding the Cliff House - sure could use that wonderful weather - I know it's not as bad here, at 108, as it is for some in other places (only 20% humidity), but I do long for cooler weather. Go Cougars!!!
Said Californy is the place you oughta be, so they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly.........Hills that is.......Just keep hummin' it Myrna

Message: Glad to see more '74-ers out there. I'm amazed at how many live in the Conejo Valley. I've been in Thousand Oaks for nearly 20 years. California Tire is the best! My son James and his wife live in Savannah GA and have a 3 month old baby daughter, Christine. She's the love of my life. During high school, I wasn't involved in anything, but I recognize so many names and thoroughly enjoy reading the feedback. If I had to do it over again, I'd get involved in EVERYTHING. You guys had a blast.

Message: I just contacted Melanie Chacon to find out how the "Sponsor a Seat" was progressing. She informed me that in just 2 weeks the fundraising has gone over the one-third mark. She is receiving several checks each day which has now gotten the office staff excited! They, the office staff, are waiting for the mail to see how many new letters arrive. For those of you who have had loved ones pass away, this is a great way to have them remembered. Please get your monies into the school as soon as possible, as they would like to get started as soon as summer school ends.
Thanks Chris

Message: John,
Do you think we can all PITCH together and get one of those seats covered in BLACK for an alumna? With all of the feedback that was dedicated to this person I think a Black Seat would only be fitting. All kidding aside do you think you can get Miki Wan or Melanie Chacon to give us an update on the seat fund?

Chris, I've got pictures to put up from Miki of all that were at the Fund Raiser on June 27. I'll try to get them posted in the next few days. The first 5 or 6 rows are GONE!! My 2 seats are above that, so please, if you want to get in on this, please do not wait.

Message: Mr. Key (sorry, I just CAN'T call former teachers/administators by their first name!!),
My son is a big jazz fan so don't worry we'll have some Glenn Miller at the cruise. Isn't it nice to hear some of that type of music is back in, and that kids are wanting to learn the jitterbug again!! Speaking of Mr. DeLao I was just at his B-Day party Saturday night! It was sooo... good to see him again. He had been told that some people from Hawthorne MIGHT be there but when we actually showed up, it blew him away. We stayed way after everyone else had left talking about old times. All the trips we took to different cities to do parades and/or half-time competitions. He is still very active in the band scene, doing seminars and clinics and fund raising. I have his phone no. if you would like to contact him (just e-mail me). You could probably talk him into coming to the cruise! He lives in Placentia. If we're really lucky maybe we could get JOHN BILLER and his wonderful wife PEGGY to show up to and play the Alma Mater for us with Mr. D directing them. John - We missed you at the party. Your name came up quite a few times!! Marsha Barnett was there too. HI MARSHA :) Next year if I have to drive down to Bakersfield and kidnap you guys, your coming :) Great times and great years to be a Coug! See ya'all at Foster's.

Message: Got back yesterday evening from the Old Car Show and Swap Meet in Iola, Wisconsin. This year the featured car maker was Mercury. Saw some lovely cars on display from Mercury and just about every other company that ever existed. I was surprized to see how much feedback had been added since last Thursday. To add to the "senile nun" stories - one of my younger sisters (or maybe brother) was in her class and came home one day telling about a spelling test - the good Sister administered the test by writing the words on the black board!

Message: Sherry Wingo: Are you related to Bill Wingo? If so, please say hi to him. Haven't heard from him in a loooong time. And I agree on the 40's music. It was even better than the 50's music for swingin' and swayin'!! And Keith, welcome back. I would love to hear some more of those great stories about your youth! What are you like now? Still adventurous? And welcome back to the V girls. This weather we're having in the desert is really awesome. Hope your home in Vegas is safe and dry, Patty. We're okay in Victorville. So far the storms have gone all around us with just a little rain falling. Each day has been different tho. JB, I went fishing yesterday and caught a 3 1/2 lb. catfish. It's still alive!! Don't they ever give up? Now what do I do with it!!?? Maybe LeeRoy has some ideas. I'm a trout person and don't know how to deal with catfish! I'm heading for the Central Coast for the next few days, so if anyone has any suggestions on how to prepare a catfish, I'd sure appreciate them. Maybe the thing will be dead when I get back!
I remember once my dad caught about a 6 lb catfish and he brought it home from the river alive. We were going to have a fish fry the following weekend and he didn't have room in the freezer so he filled a wash tub he had with water and in went the fish. Every morning and evening going to and from his car, he'd check the fish and every morning and evening, the catfish would be out on the lawn. The fish was still alive when he cleaned it the following Saturday. I guess a catfish has 9 lives too.

However, my schedule is damn busy so it could be a couple of months - I'm visiting my mom in No Cal next weekend; flying to the Oshkosh airshow the last week of the month, might have a business trip in early August, and then going on family vacation (yeah!) to the Canadian Rockies late August. You get the idea.... I particularly remember some pictures I took near 1974 graduation - there was a late night party of the '74 crowd in senior square. Everybody was wild! I remember a banner (it sounds worse to me now than it did then) - something like "Sex, drugs and a whole lot more - we're the class of '74!". Anybody remember that one?
Tim, If you want to post pics, please send them to me. The one above won't make the cut. Sorry.

OK, what's it gonna be, "In The Mood" or "Ina Gada Da Vida". These are tough decisions here. I say we forgo the music and get Gloria to teach us some of her favorite HHS football cheers.

Message: JB, yup, you guessed it right when you said not much to do here in Arkadelphia. I'm working six days a week and living in a dry county and a town that rolls up the sidewalks at five in the afternoon. I heard from my job shop last week that the company I am working at intends to extend my contract for another four months. Gee, spending the millenium in Arkadelphia - I can't wait! So, with what I said this leaves one with plenty of time on their hands so I play my music. And I have lots to play! I only wish I had my 45's collection with me - anyone want to unload their 45's send me an email. I was not trying to nit-pick the email responses by the alumni but when I saw an error regarding music I had to step up to the plate. I've been listening to the radio since the early fifties when "Luck Lager Dance Time" was on in the evening - this was a great way for me to fall asleep. Does anyone remember the station call sign for this program? Then there was Al Jarvis and Joe Yocum on channel 98 KFWB. Eleanor Brown and I danced on Al's program at three different times and we won first place twice! Of course, this was when we were in the fifth grade at Peter Burnett and rock & roll was in its' early stages but, hey, it was fun doing the "bop". And don't forget B. Mitch Reed, Gene Weed and Bill Ballance from KFWB. And in high school we had Hunter Hancock from KGFJ - we had some good DJ's back then when everyone played the top forty! You opened the door when you asked me for "requests" for Cruise Night. If I were to note all my favorites I would fill up one of your pages! So, to save you and my fellow alumni having to read hundreds of MY favorites I will narrow it down to the years 59-63: '59 - Chapel of Dreams (Dubs); '60 - my all-time favorite (already requested) Theme From A Summer Place; '61 - Gee Whiz (Carla Thomas); 62 - Venus In Blue Jeans (Jimmy Clanton); '63 - Hello, Stranger (Barbara Lewis). Thanks, JB, and have a great time cruisin' the blvd. and crank up the music!!
Jan, Send us a tape, and we'll play it on Cruise Night. Thanks man.......

I love seeing some of the people I remember. John, for my pic stick in one of the baseball pics since I didn't have a senior pic. Kim Beutel I remember very well. I always liked her because she was such a good athlete. Jimbo, I hope you get better. I almost thought that picture John had up was you and your bro Bill. But after looking at it awhile I figured out it wasn't. Anyway, glad everything is going great with this site. And, don't worry John I won't make em long anymore. ANd in regards to the weather in Texas. I was living in Hawaii the past ten years and the weather there is the best in the world. Clear blue skies, no smog (occasional VOG), humidity kind of high (not as bad as Florida) and hot. Now I live in Vegas and there isn't any place as hot as here. Dry heat means nothing when it is 115 degrees. You still sweat your b.... off.
Hey Keith, Glad you're back guy. You can write as long a feedback as you want too. I'm not limiting anyone on this site. As far as the picture goes, all I have are senior pics unless we get back to the books I own. Thanks Keith
