Message: Paco, my mom used to sell those punch cards occasionally. I?ve heard them called the lotto of the 40?s although she was selling them in the 50?s. They came in different sizes and when you would punch one out it would split in half and tell you how much you owed. The seller had to buy the card and then split the profit with the winner. My mom said from time to time they would offer a prize like a quilt. Sometimes the bigger ones added an incentive of having one of the punches turn into an instant winner of a free punch.

I don't remember what the prizes were but I do remember that I would win the same prize as the winner..Have a happy day, I need a life!

In his group are Hulk Hogan, Lou Ferrigno, Christian Slater and Jim Carrey. He said they're having dinner tonight with the coach and some of the players. He went out last night with some guy named "The Big Show"(?)Scott is 6'2" and 300 lbs and says he feels like a dwarf..Have a good one and go Colts!!!

Message: Haytown; there is a reference in "History of Hawthorne" by Robert S. Hartman, that was posted back in early November on Feedback. Page 7 - (1907) sales pamplet reads "In Two Years, Hawthorne has grown from a hay field to a thriving little town of over hundred homes."

Message: Yanno, in my years in our fair city, I heard (the city) referred to as Ha-Ha-Hawthorne. Newspaper was the Daily Sneeze, Leuzinger was loosefinger, ad nauseum. Haytown? that goes way back to when there were large farms between Hawthorne, Lawndale, etc, and the red car line used to take people to Los Angeles.

Message: Jim, thanks for the very nice words about the videos. I enjoy putting them together and I?m very glad you like watching them. Right now I?m working on a big one for our upcoming reunion in July. But there will probably be more in the future as ideas come to me. If any Coug?s out there have pictures of our old haunts, I would certainly appreciate it if you would consider emailing me a copy to be possibly inserted into a new video. After all those videos, my sources are getting rather dry. I also would like to throw an open question out there to you all. I don?t know the true answer but I would definitely like to know. Does anyone know the origin of calling Hawthorne ?Haytown?? The only reference I can find to Haytown being a city?s nickname is in regard to Hayward. I also don?t seem to be able to find anyone who heard the term used for Hawthorne before the 70?s. So if you happen to know, post it on Cougartown and solve this mystery. Thanks.

Message: I too, along with Janet Brown, went to Trinity. After all, it was just across the street from my home. Loved those rainy day sessions, when I could run home to check on my chickens, so they wouldn't float away. I started in 1st grade (I still keep in contact with my teacher, Miss Stromberg, in Minnesota), tried Dana in 7th, and returned in 8th grade. It's true, Gary and Ty were the school "hunks". They were snatched up fast by the school's 2 most popular girls.

Message: A dedication of the driving song "Hot Rod Lincoln" goes out tonight to Jake N Jude of Kuna, Idaho. Interesting history of this 'Rock-a-Billy' song including variations of the lyrics can be found at http://www.rockabillyhall.com/HotRodLncln1.htmlIs this where the term 'Rock and Roll' comes from, good music coming from the Motorola while rolling down the highway?
