Message: I couldn?t let the day go by without wishing all my Cougartown friends the best in the upcoming year of 2007. 2006 will remain a year of many found Cougartown memories. All the events, new friends, shared memories, and even our occasional little spats. But we all really know that the teachers back in the day learned us gooder than they do now (My apologies to all HHS English teachers especially Mrs. Mark). So thank you John Baker for what you have done and to all Cougars everywhere, Happy New Year.
Hey Jer', I couldn't have said it gooder. Thanks for being a part of all this that is Cougartown. Thanks for your insight, videos, and just for being here. Here's to continuing it all in 2007. Have a Happy New Year, my friend.

Message: Dear John and Cougartown Folk, Cougartown has had an interesting year and I'm sure we will continue to have those good times. I had a great time working with you on our class of 62 reunion and I look forward to working with you again. John darling you are the "KING" and it has been said before, just don't want you to stop remembering!!! Thank you for all you do and all that you are, you have grown into a interesting Man and just a little note here, YOUR DAD would of been very proud in what you have accomplished with Cougartown. Thank you again. May 2007 find for all Cougartown, Health, Happiness and alot of Love. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.....Larry and Loretta Cuiper
Ahhh Loretta, you know you were always my FAVORITE girlfriend, growing up, huh. Thank you very much. I do feel very lucky to have you and all our Ctowners rounded up here. It has taken almost 10 years and we are still collecting new Ctowners every week. I had lots of fun with you and the rest of our 62 Turns 62 Reunion committee, and I wasn't even supposed to have been a committee member. As a side, more reunions are being planned for next year than any other year in Ctown existence. Something is working.
Anyway, thank you Loretta, for not only being my reunion committee compadre but for just being a very good friend for the last 49 years. You and Larry are what makes Hawthorne a great little city today. A very Happy New Year to you both.

Message: Happy New Year wishes from the beautiful, windy and rainy Northwest. I was in Hawthorne right before Thanksgiving and really enjoyed my daily walks through Hollyglen. The sun was shining, flowers blooming and if you used imagination...the freeway almost sounded like ocean waves. The neighborhood looks good and the new school will be a great addition. We are looking forward to 2007...our son returns from Korea after two+ years, we are getting closer to a possible move east to enjoy our grandson more often and we have my mother's Alzheimer's under control for the moment. Good luck and good wishes to all of you.
Hi Bonnie, Thanks for the update and a Happy New Year to you and your family.

Message: Alex surprised me with a sentimental journey to Hawthorne today. We went past where my home used to be on 129th Street, which the Edison Substation took over. Leave it to Alex to see a service entrance to HHS, and decide we were going to drive all around the interior of the school. Luckily there was no one to stop us, and I was able to see all the buildings. My eyes looked through the paint, and saw the school of old. I was so happy he took the chance. Then to Trinity, up Inglewood Avenue, over to Redondo Beach. We never found the Redondo Suites Hotel they showed in Little Miss Sunshine. Along the coast through PV, stopping to overlook the water and cliffs. We had to stop at Wayfarers Chapel, since I went there all the time as a child. It added a new visitors center since our last visit 6 years ago, and we were lucky enough for the church to be open after a wedding completed. So much nostalgia today. It was wonderful. I'm happy I can still see what I remember, and not let the changes affect my thoughts.
Sounds like you had a full day Adrianne, thanks for sharing....

Message: Just my 2 cents worth but with all the noise being made about alumni assoc and who has the title for it we all know that Cougartown is it and for this new assoc. that Clark is trying to establish how about the title of alma mater assoc. Like I said just my two cents worth and yes I'll support both assoc.

Message: Clark! Nothing like a day at the Happiest Place on Earth to gain some new perspective on your proposal for the Alumni Association. We all thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with you there (even if Bob Deuel was a no show!). Later in our trip to L.A. my wife Cindy (Ogren HHS '78) and I took our kids on a drive to our old haunts in Hawthorne. We drove into HHS only to find it completely un-accessible, guarded by a high fence with locked gates. We were both saddened that we were unable to share the place where such fond memories were made. Yes, the place has changed--heck we all have! But change should always pay honor to history and I support the efforts for a way HHS alumni can become involved in creating an historical link to the modern HHS in a positive and constructive way. After 30 years, I think I can give back a little to the place that gave so much to me! Let me know what the next steps are, and thanks for taking the initiative!

Message: The response to my question was wonderful. Thank you all. Thanks Carol Moody and Walter, Denny, Sharon and JB. It is an overwhelming thing, to think of the response you get from a simple request on this web site. Thank you one and all. As for my Bruins JB, I went to sleep when they went up 27-23. I too, was shocked at the result. It must have been a USC hangover and they thought they had it won. It's never won until you're celebrating in the locker room. May the New Year Cougar Be With You All. Thanks for your help.Jake N Jude.
Hey Jake, Yo are welcome and Happy New Year to you and Jude...

Message: Happy New Year! The night before last, on Channel 7 news, was a special story about one of the Rose Parade floats now being decorated. I hope some of you also saw the story....it was about Laralee Bergstrom (maiden name Brevig), class of '62. I remember Neil Andersen letting me know earlier in the year that Laralee had been killed in an auto accident and that she was an organ donor. Beautiful Laralee saved the life of a young man who had returned after serving in Iraq with a mysterious liver disease and was dying. This young man was interviewed as he was helping to decorate this special float. You might want to watch for in the Rose Parade....I think it's called the "Donate A Life" float.
Yes, I knew about the story. He'll be riding on that float too. Thanks Penny... Laralee was always a friendly Cougar, now it seems, even in death.

Message: ROJO....regarding Jimmie Rodgers......put Jimmie (with an ie not y) in the search and you will get to several CDs at www.towerrecords.com. Best of....., etc. He also has a wonderful album named "Child of Clay" with wonderful selections although most were not on the Hits charts. His version of "Turnaround" is lovely and certainly fits sentiments that we feel as life keeps speeding by. I saw him in concert several years ago in Bend, Oregon. The voice had lost much of it's range, as it did soon after his beating, and he was having a great deal of trouble with breath control at the altitude but it was still such a pleasure to listen to him
Thanks Carol....

Message: Greetings Cougs, I'm alive and well in Snow packed Colorado. Bro Kirk and I and our families are weathering another strong snow storm here in the Rockies. We're expected to get out sometime around January 2/3. In the meantime we are taking advantage of the snow and enjoying snow boarding at it's best. Once you're snowed in at a resort there's nothing to do but "GO FOR IT". Walt may have his surf, but we have snow for our boards!!! Happy New Year to all and we'll report back when the snow subsides...Yea Right!!!!!
Hey GREASBYS Happy New Year to you too..

Message: Walter Holt, Mr. Record GURU. I would like to ask a favor of you. You can answer me on my e-mail above. Do you know where I can get any recordings of a guy named Jimmy Rodgers? Everyone I've talked to up here in IDYHO says they're out of print. He made songs like Kiss'es Sweeter Than Wine. Honeycomb and several others. We would appreciate any feedback. By the way I'd throw in for your bail also.:-) Go Broncos! MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU. Jake N Jude.
What happened to UCLA?? I was stunned....

Message: Happy Holidays Cougartown Its been awhile since ive added any feedback but For the last year i have been kicking an idea around that fits in with clarks comments. I thought we can have an annual event called Cougarfest. Wed choose one weekend a year to host all things cougar. Friday nite would be a gathering of all the classes saturday would start off with breakfast hosted by us. The afternoon would host a car show with booths that represent every class from Hawthorne and to end that nite with an oldies concert. All proceeds from this event would be donated to the alumni to fund any project we chose for Hawthorne. I was planning after the holidays to see if anyone would like to meet and talk about this idea. When i saw Clarks comments i thought now would be a good time.
Hey James, Glad you're back and please come to the meeting on the 20th of January at noon. Your thoughts sound like a fun fun idea....

Message: Britt...Send the money to Bolsa Chica State. Funny thing of it is, I did get arrested for surfing back in the late sixties in Virginia beach, Virgina. Me and a few of my friends decided to surf 18' plus surf a couple hours before a hurricane hit there. The police couldn't get us out of the water so they arrested us when we came in. The case got thrown out because there wasn't a law against it.

Message: Have you seen the ads for the movie "Black Christmas"? It's a remake of a movie from around 1975- Ted Gioia took me to Westwood to see this movie. It was TERRIFYING! I still remember how scared I was! Gloria (V6) and I went to see it in around 1978 at a drive in; someone had a heart attack during the movie and a bambulance took him away. I am trying to find someone who will go see the remake with me... not trying real hard, but trying...
Sorry, I got scared in Bambi....

Message: I am proud of Clark for stepping forward to lead the alumni association, and I deeply thank John for his support and this wonderful venue to get the association started. This is only the beginning; I think we'll come up with a few ideas at the first meeting and grow from there. I hope everyone who visits Cougartown will be willing to step up in some way- whether you can attend in person, submit ideas via email or phone, or support HHS financially, your input is valuable and necessary. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone who can attend on the 20th. Happy New Year to all; God Bless Us Every One!
See you tomorrow....
