Message: Clark, I too wish to apologize to you. Unfortunately I let my perception of the way your post was written overshadow the good intentions YOU are doing to help HHS, bring us together as an alumni and move forward to further assist our alma mater. As much as I would like to attend the meeting on the 20th and be a part of The HHS Alumni Association my current situation will prevent me from being there. Please keep me informed via e-mail or Cougartown feedback and I will do my best to help in any way I can. Your effort is appreciated.

Message: It's the holiday season so there is no better time to mend fences and extend apologies. First let me say that I have contacted John Baker directly and apologized privately and now I do so publicly. My expressed desire to form an HHS Alumni Association was not meant to slight John or Cougartown in any way shape or form! I state now that I will not take part in any organization which seeks to replicate or detract from Cougartown in any form. John has put in too much time and effort and arguably has developed the best high school alumni website in America! Let me briefly state my intentions so there is no further misunderstanding.. After reading the Daily Breeze article about HHS a month or two ago I was very upset to think that my high school was deteriorating in many aspects. I decided that I was not willing to see my alma mater become another Washington high school or Manual Arts high school. Both banner schools in their prime they are now only pathetic shadows of what they once were. I have been on both of these campuses in the past 60 days and I have personal friends who attended these schools in their prime. I do not intend to try to "fix" Hawthorne. I feel in my heart that with as few as a couple dozen concerned and capable alumni, we can make a difference at the school we cherish. Cougartown and a strictly philanthropic alumni association could compliment each other and make each other stronger. It is like having a varsity football team and a varsity basketball team. They do not need to detract from the other in any way! Finally I apologize to any and all members of Cougartown who felt slighted by my call to action and my poor choice of words calling for all of us to "get off our duffs" Please note the operative word was "us" implying that I was included in the group. I have heard some great ideas for simple support of the school from the likes of Gary Bickers and Dale Hahlbeck and others who have discussed a mentoring program. It was just my thought that an organization designed specifically to turn those good intentions into action could produce good results without a tremendous burden upon the alumni. Happy holidays to all and I hope my apology is well received and has mended fences! I will be meeting face to face with John Baker later this week.

Message: I know JB--I know--We are not to use this page for personal messages but don't know how else to locate Sue King. Will you fogive me just this once and not send me to Siberia?
SUE: Thank you so much for your nice letter about teachers. Wish I could have lived up to all those statements but really appreciate you thinking of me. I sent a copy to my Son who is a teacher in San Jose--My Grandson who teaches in the Bronx--My Grandaughter who teaches in Costa Mesa--My Grandson and new bride who teach in San Diego--My daughter who teaches in Catalina. She made copies and placed them in all the teachers mail boxes in Avalon schools so you see your kindness has spresd a long ways. But there is another side to the story and that is my thanks to all of you kids who made my 32 years in Centinela Valley schools so wonderful. I can tell you there was not one morning that I didn't look forward to spending the day with all of you fine kids. Well- that isn't exactly true--I hated graduation day. You see I had to sit on the stage with all my bosses who expected me to control you 500 kids while I felt I was sitting on a time bomb waiting for the balloons, water pistols, fire crackers and the worst year with the streaker. On the way to graduation in 1980 I told my wife I am retiring next week-I have nothing to lose-and if those kids start embarrasing me tonight I will go to the mike and say this graduation is dismissed, walk off the stage and never return. Wonders never cease--you were the best behaved class of my career. Thank you 1980. So we all went to Disneyland and had a great night. Thanks again for all the happy memories-I love you so much. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night--George Key

Message: We hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and the best of New Years. Thank you so much, John, for all the work you have continually put into Cougartown, to keep classmates connected. You are truly a blessing, and you are much loved. The sentimental journey keeps going because of your tireless efforts. I was out to lunch with Linda Huthmaker on Friday, and we talked about how without Cougartown we wouldn't know all we do about HHS. Look at how many reunions, mini and large, you are responsible for. I have renewed and made good friendships. God bless you. Alex and Adrianne

Message: Paco while perusing the feedback , also in the year 2000 you mentioned something about my Bruins being Bearmeat! Guess what? I'm going to be using the glue from that old nag of a horse,or Donkey as it may be, on my "Post-It" notes for a good year at the minimum. Whats really fun is sticking the pin in to make sure it stays. They, the Bruins, could and sometimes come close, to losing every game of the year, but the only one that counts was this one and their season has been made. Double the ripple with knocking their buns out of the national championship game. Have we been there? No, but we're still trying. Kind of reminds me of a few Coug teams of the past. As is Little Blue, Boise State, against MIGHTY OU in the Fiesta Bowl. I'll give the points on that one. Although my heart is Blue. But, I will root for the usc, against any team outside of the PAC 10, anytime. It's been a fun football year. MAY THE CHRISTMAS COUGAR BE WITH YOU. Jake N Jude.

Message: John, after reading what you thought your '58 chevy probably is today, I was thinking how cool would it be to go back to the "A" just one more time and order a 5 cent rootbear and watch all the tuff cars come through from all over the greater LA area. Message: My '59 Studebaker Lark (actually my dad's) had bench seats--very slick nylon or something similar--and no seatbelts. While turning left off La Cienega onto 137th Street on the way home from 26th Street, I was going maybe a little too fast--Jeff Gibson was ahead of me in one of his many cool cars. I slid all the way across the seat onto the passenger side. Heading straight for a parked car, I pulled on the steering wheel and missed the car on the left side of the street, but I was unable to recover in time to miss the parked car on the right side. Stunned by the bountiful deed I had done (my apologies to Marty Robbins), I had but one chaice and that was to run. Down 137th I drove to my house, parked in the driveway and ran inside. But alas, my sense to do the right thing prevailed, and I drove back up the street and put a note on the car I had hit. But the worst part was telling my dad I had hit a parked car. We (I) paid for the damage--it wasn't that much--and as soon as we could, put seat belts in the car. I have NEVER driven without them since.

Message: Merry Christmas from the balmy, tropical paradise of Eastern Oregon. We're up in Baker City, Oregon visiting our Daughter and Grandkids. Haven't seen weather above 30 degrees since Ely, NV on Thursday, and don't expect to see anything above that till we head back through Vegas next week. This morning it was in the teens. I know there are some Cougs who are experiencing much colder weather, but you have to remember that I'm an old desert rat, who lights the fireplace if it gets below 50. It looks like we'll have a White Christmas, with 3 inches on the ground now, and another couple inches expected by Monday. A very Merry Christmas (or whatever occasion you happen to celebrate this time of year) and Happy New Year to all. A special spot of Egg-Nog for JB, without whom we wouldn't have this wonderful forum to all keep in touch.
