Message: Hi John, What a great time we all had, just seeing all our friends again (note I did not say OLD). You are a special Cougartown Man, at one time I called you the KING of Cougartown, you are the King, and your crystal Cougar is elegant, tis fit for the King. I had a wonderful time working on this committee, Thank you Linda, Nancy Cheryl, Karen, Gene, Dan and George, It was a pleasure. I will be happy (God willing) to help work on the 50th reuion. It's only 6 years away..Oh my gosh!!! My Niece Lisa Ortega, and our son Eric, had a great time taking the picture's on friday night. They thought our class was a fun group, and we are the best!! Larry and I thought the cafeteria, our dinner, the tour of the kitchen and campus exceeded our expectations of the school. The memorial of our fellow classmates, that are no longer with us was very touching and what George said, by us keeping in touch through Cougartown was so true. John you are the one who made this happen, Again Thank You....Hopefully we will see you Saturday...Love ya

Because of her donation, my sister and I have really managed to deal with her death much better. We were all close and not a day goes by, that I don't miss her and if anyone would like to get in touch with me in regards to her, that would be wonderful. cindy.coley@hotmail.com

Message: John, I have a new venture I am working on and desire to purchase cougartown.com from you. I understand that you have owned it for quite sometime, which makes it valuable. I am willing to compensate well, but fairly. I know that cougartown.net, .org etc... are available as well. As part of this deal, I would be willing to contribute up to 15K in web development services on one of these domain names, and create a re-direct link to one of those names for 6 months on cougartown.com. Please reply at your earliest convenience. Thank you in advance. Jeremy Votaw

Message: Well shucks folks ... guess I was overruled! And it's funny because I went back to the earlier days of CT and ya know John ... it's this way every year at feetball time so I kinda doubt it will ever be any different. The guys just cannot keep quiet about football; that's all there is to it! However, NOT nice to call us girls names just because we like to get our 2 cents worth in on occasion. Can't blame us for that, can ya? One thing I DID notice about prior years on CT was the fact that the following "old-timers" have been missing for a while in addition to those I already mentioned: Richard Hansen, Ray Shelley, Norm Vorhis, Mickey Mathena, Tom Burroughs, Robin Hood and Lyman Moss. I realize some of these guys are NOT yet "old-timers", so please don't be offended by that category. We just miss you, that's all. Okay, now ... back to football!

Message: I have been hidden away here in Sandy,Utah for the last thirty yrs and have seldom had a reason to think of HHS. Then I got a call from Ed Greevy and John Cooper (57)and have thought of little else since. I asked about the Hahlbecks because of all the fond memories I have of so many of us hanging out at the Hahlbecks drinking gallons of coffee. Very sorry to hear of the passing of the sisters. I had a secret crush on Joann. I remember George in the Plaza theater sitting next to a girl named Philpot, I think. About ten of us were encouraging George to put his arm around her. I Don't remember if he did, I doubt it, he was pretty scared.

Message: What a great weekend, you guys really did a great job! I haven't seen most of you for over forty years.. Sue Smith, Kathy Tift and Martha Amour were just a few. The party on friday night was really noisy with all of those nebraska fans, saturday night it was a lot quieter, Sharon and I were in the front entry watching the buses come back from the game...Heads all down, poor souls. John have you ever thought of trying to raise money for a Cougartown scholarship? I spoke to sister Pat and she said there are many students who could use the help. Anyway see ya all at the Cougartown picnic on saturday!

But to come in here the sacred halls of Cougartown pretending YOUR Ducks beat the Sooners. That game was lost in the replay booth. Now we all know why it's so hard to win at Eugene. Congrats to all the Trojans. Wade and Kirk you can back up the truck anytime.

Message: Hey John, you more than deserve that Cougar with all the time you spend helping us all keep in touch. The class of '62 turns '62 (oh my!) reunion was great. I really enjoyed visiting so many classmates. I want to thank the committee again for all your hard work and dedication in planning the reunion. I enjoyed visiting the school and seeing what they are doing to improve it for the students. Now were our teachers and principal really that young looking? I am sure a couple of them had been around forever. The presentation of the memorial was bitter sweet, sad that so many have passed on, but grateful for the memories that came flooding back while watching it. Again, thanks to everyone for a great weekend. Looking forward to seeing all of you at our 50th.

I saw many former students, including Autry Scott who was in my very first 7th grade class in '52-'53. I've said it before, John, but THANKS for engineering this site. I have connected with many former students and it is such a wonder to hear about their lives. Ida, I need to talk to you some more about your class in room 11. Love to all, HCH

Message: Well, here we are again at the end of another beautiful get together. What a wonderful gathering of Cougars from the Class of 62. I just love this class (of course) as we had such a wonderful weekend together. Thank you all for being here as I know lots came from such a long distance to be with their classmates.
Friday night at the Marriott was our lounge party and we saw people who I don't remember ever showing up at any of our reunions. Ron Petch, thank you so much for showing up. I do wish Carolyn (Fite) could have been there too. Leonard Stone, I don't think I've seen you but once since our HHS days. Bob Gross, you are truly amazing as you've always been throughout your lifetime. Bob is the ONLY person I've ever known who has is absolutely BRILLIANT (5th in our class), has the GREATEST personality of anyone I've ever known, AND is one of the finest athletes ever to come out of HHS (although I think the only sport he ever had time for was Intramural Football). Actually with Ron and Bob (Peewees), Leonard Stone (Skyhawks), and me (Optimidgets), all we needed was a Cub to round out our Hawthorne Little League from 1956 (Bob Reagan, are you listening?).
Saturday at HHS went totally as planned. We had about 85 people show for this mammoth affair. Of course our fearless leader and head Committee Member, George Rea did an EXCELLENT job as MC. Thank you George for ALWAYS spearheading our reunions. Other reunion Committee Members include: Eugene Obillo, Linda Jones Reynolds, and Nancy Cheryl Brooks Kari, Karen Hoffman Newkirk, Dan Dye (who still holds the oldest track record still standing at HHS for shotput at about a 61 feet and change, and I think he could still do it today), Loretta Morelli Cuiper (my 8th grade girlfriend and still living in Hawthorne with husband Larry Cuiper HHS60), thank you all for being a part of getting and keeping our class together. It all ended this morning with our closing breakfast at the Marriott as about 25 showed for that one. I was relieved it was over and yet wanted it to go on and on.
I also want to thank our class for the beautiful Crystal Cougar bestowed on me for our website. It is such an honor to receive this token of love, and I am truly humbled by it.
There will be pictures as they come in from lots of sources. Thanks again, Class of 62 (and members of other HHS classes) for being there. It just shows our pride in HHS and our TRUE friendship throughout the years. This kind of friendship NEVER goes away. We are all connected and are all brothers and sisters whether we like it or not. We are the most "TOGETHER" class Hawthorne High has EVER had the honor to graduate, and I love you all. I truly mean that from the bottom of my being. Let's not wait for our 50th to get together once more.

Wasn't sharp with geography. OH..... Did you see the little green suited birds kick some, "OH YOU" ,( family program Jake), TAIL FEATHERS!!! Can't play ball on the left coast? Come on guys and gals. Get real. The rhetoric is useless. If John had been Winston Churchill, there never would have been a war. He holds the key as to why we won't have one here. Go Cougars and UCLA! They never win. But we love em. MAY THE COUGAR BE WITH YOU! Jake N Jude
P.S. John, did I really say Fight On USC? Jeez I've really mellowed over the years.
