Message: Thank you Class of 62 for allowing us to attend your reunion dinner. It was nice to have a tour of the campus. The school looked better than I had expected. I had the wonderful opportunity to see Nancy Cheryl Brooks. You look just like your Mom! Cheryl?s parents owned Brook?s Paint and Hardware on Inglewood Avenue @ 138th St. I do hope you all had a wonderful time back at the Hotel. I am sorry that I will miss the picnic next weekend, as I will be in NYC. John, please drink my share of the champagne the B sisters bring. Sorry Sue and Sharon, we will just have to plan another event to get together. I?ll be back in time for Stick-n-Stein class of 71 and hope to see lots of friends then.
Hey Bob, Thanks to you too for showing up last night. Yes we did PARTY at the Hotel after the Reunion, and yes, I WILL drink you share of whatever the B Girls bring on Saturday.

Message: Sloey....Quiet an annihilation of the PAC 10 yesterday. Since you bet the Greasby homestead on the BIG 12 are they moving in with you to twist pretzels? Its a shame you will not be available to comment on your LOSSES, and sadder yet Leslie will never chime in again. Wade we gave Overated University 1st and goal twice and they backed themselves up to about midfield twice. Amazing what can happen in 72 seconds isn't it? Made my day if no one else..way to go DUCKS!
Well, Leslie beat you to the punch Robin, and was very gracious. You should have waited a day or so Anyway, the Pac 10 came out on top this week, but I hate to blow my own horn because that puts the HEX on my teams everytime. I say takem one Saturday at a time. How did South Bend U. do???

Message: Well, y'all pulled it off. Congradulations to those PAC-10 schools and fans. I didn't get to watch the games because I was attending class, but I recorded the OU match up and just finished watching it. It's bad enough going into a hostile environment, your team has to fight to keep to their game plan, but when you have the commentators who are announcing the game against you, that makes it even harder for your listening pleasure. Why did Keith Jackson retire? Fight On and Hoorah Ducks.. Congrats.

Message: Yeah, I was going to join in and comment on how this feedback page mimics real life in that as soon as the guys get wrapped up in football the gals start vying for attention in ways they know how. They start bi? oops... I mean expressing a need to steer the page into a more socially balanced conversation. Whew that was close! I was going to say that but I don?t want to cause any trouble so I won?t say that. --Baxter
Hey Baxter, You are completely correct and being football season.....what the heck, Wade, Jim, Robin, etal, comment away.

Message: John, it was great to be able tour Hawthorne High School. The experience brought back so many memories. The presentation that you and Jerry Miles put together for the Class of 62 reunion was well done and touching. Who was the singer/band on the soundtrack?
Thank you again for providing us the opportunity to share our memories and thoughts through Cougartown. Congrads on your award from the Class of 62.
Hi Don, Glad you and a few others from different classes got to come last night. The singer/song on the In Memoriam video was Sarah McLachlan - "I Will Remember You". I had seen classmate Franz Russell's memorial video and the song was used on it. It seemed to be the perfect fit for this one. I will add the video to the website as several people, last night, asked if they could get a copy. Please feel free to download it. Thanks again to Jerry Miles for all his help on the Memorial video. Jerry, it was a complete success.

Message: Hi Fellow Cougars, I just wanted to let the class of 64 know about my brother Loren Heath. In February he found out he had a tumor in his neck. They have given him radiation treatments and chemo. They then found a tumor on his lung and a spot on his liver. So he has gone through more chemo and radiation to shrink that tumor. The cancer seem to respond well with the first round of chemo, but it was too hard on his kidneys to where they almost shut down. So they tried a different cocktail for the second round. But unfortunately the cancer is growing too fast and the chemo is not attacking the tumors as the doctors hope it would. They have now put him on hospice to make him comfortable. If anyone would like to get in contact with Loren please let me know and I will give you his number.
Very shocking news for me, personally, as the Heath family lived across the street from our family and Loren and I were best friends. Thanks Pam, for the information and please email me Loren's phone number.

Message: Cindy, you couldn't be more right-on girl! Of course those guys haven't "growed up", any more than yours truly! However, was just tryin' to give'm a few strokes thinking they would give us some hilarious feedbacks like they used to. And Yes, boys, it's time to get off the sports kick ... it's almost a given at least once a year, right John? Time now for HHS and Hawthorne memories and I'll bet if we talk real nice, we can get those oldies-but-goodies to come on out of hiding and give us some great old memories. Folks like Marilyn, Baxter, Harry Plotkin, JB, all have marvelous memories and I LOVE their stories, even if I've heard them before! So, hellllo?????
Hey Doris, you must have a Hawthorne story or two there in the Grey matter somewhere. Let's hear'em

Message: With all the football debate, how are our Cougars doing this season? Unfortunately, not too good. They lost their third streight game this season last night with a loss to Compton High, with a final score of 56-0. While you Class of 62ers are on campus later today at your reunion, how about a little war dance to stir up the Great Cougar Spirit, to lead our Cougars to their first win of the season?!Semper Cougars
Hey Richard, We'lll do what we can. We had a great lounge party at the Marriott last night and had to share the area with Cornhusker party that's going to the game today. Had a little fun as Paco had the USC Fight song on his cell phone. Lotsa dirty looks The Sloey Bros. would have had a ball there last night..
If you want to continue the party tonight, show up and pay at the door. Lost of Cougars there that aren't on our list; Ron Petch, Leonard Stone, Gary Myk, etc. Come on down at 4pm today. We are having a blast, and the party weekend is just starting.

Message: Thanks Alan. How we can not continue to speek of College football, when there have been HHS alumni football players continue their careers at the college level and do well. In the three years I played on the varsity team, there were at least 20 players who went on to major college football programs, even sc. And before and after my years, there were plenty of grads who played college ball. HHS does have ties to college football. So when big games come up and there are spirited contests happening, it is good to hear new alumni come in and express their ties to a university.
Hi Wade, Yes, and HHSers went on to become doctors, lawyers and, post hole diggers too. Let's talk about them. I do appreciate the fact that College is an extension of HHS but this website is about Hawthorne and Hawthorne talk and I know we step over that line from time to time. ou, the huskers and USC have been covered, and people are emailing ME, asking why we're talking College football now, so let's move on.

Message: Reading what the Greasbys have written these past few days finally made me realize why Wade was so insistant on naming the 8th grade H.I.S. all-star football team the "Sooners". While I don't have any Okie roots, my wife's family hails from the Mayes, Stillwater and Grove area. She even has a OK County (Adair) named after her Great Grandmother's family. But my folks, too, were (sort of) mid-west transplants. I was the first born in Cal. Everyone else was from Upper Michigan.

I will be sending out "Save the dates" along with some other fun stuff. Just be patient and we'll get this party started. To kick off this event, I will give one free ticket to the reunion, to the person with the best "theme". Be original, be funny, be sentimental, and remember "Scarlet & Old" has been used already. Have fun and good luck!
Also, word of mouth is good, so if you know anybody who does not check out Cougartown, please let them know that a reunion is in the works. Thank you.

Message: Carl, If you were to go back into the history books of Hawthorne, you'd find a number of the founding members of our City of Good Neighbors were from the midwest....Where football is played 24/7 365. My dad was one of the first fire fighters, and there were others on the police dept. and other positions in the city as well as Northrup. These were people from Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska, et al. The loyal people from these states carried on the tradition to support their teams, even here in Hawthorne. When going to HHS, in the 60's & 70's the colleges from the midwest were even supported on HHS's campus by off-spring of these parents. I wore an OU helmet while playing football my Junior and Senior years. sc and ucla were out numbered when it came to who's going to support them in a game against NU, OU, TU, UofA etc. The rivalries are good, it brings us Cougs together and it shows how the family ties from the midwest have carried the family traditions on and on
OK we understand, Nuff said on the subject of College Football.

Been checking out CT (finally) and I want to make sure there's still a Sept. 29 gathering at Stick n Stein. I took the day and night off to party, so there better be! I plan to check in more often and hope to hit some Cougar functions. God bless y'all!
