I've been, probably, one of the biggest fans of surf music, even before I knew who the Beach Boys were, and this really, made my love of this style of music even sweeter. Great to hear that Dick Dixon is back. We were teamates way back. Sure am looking forward to Fosters. Ernie Nixon '63

Message: Holey mackerel John: You put my name on here like I was going to be kept after school so guess I better respond. Yes I plan to show up for the Foster Freeze Fantastic Flameout but since I don't have a lottery ticket for a parking place, plan to come on the #5 big yellow streetcar. Does it still run up the center of the boulevard? In the 1940's I rode it to Occidental college in Eagle Rock for 10 cents. Suppose the fare has gone up.
On second thought with so many coming I'll never get my double thick chocolate shake so plan to rent a Good Humor truck to bring and maybe pick up a few pesos . After all we retirees need all the help we can get. Buenos Nachos---JORGE

Jorge, Man am I glad to hear from you. How're you feeling? If you need a ride, just give me a shout. They won't let me take the "Mighty Dodge", so I guess I can throw you in the back of the 51 pickup. You don't mind riding on a hay bale do you?? The last time I looked, you'd have to walk to Broadway and the Bl. to catch one of them Yellow Cars. Thanks for checking in Jorge, and let me know........

Message: John, great being back to cougarland. Being away for a couple of months was no party, missed the daily fix of reading the best piece of journalism around with this site. Also, really revvvvved up over the cruise and hopefully it will happen on the 24th. I'm sure it will be like Hawthorne Blvd of the past, horsepowner and that music of the burnout. Are we going to buy off the HPD or what! Gary Nelson has a new street rod he can bring and I who knows what I'll show up in, but it sure will be a happening. Lynn Brooks, want to go for another cruise like the PCH trip last summer in the '65 Cobra, what a bad hair day. Looking forward to seeing ya John, cause ole friends just get better. Don't forget the fat burger trip to Chips on Hawthorne and 119th. Sure looking forward to coming back to the left coast.
Hey Dickie, The more the merrier, I say. It doesn't matter what you bring. I might show up in "Daddy's Car". We'll see you there.

On its exit from the buffer it chipped a tooth and almost took a light with it...Oh well, Kathy Barnes dad Big "Al" would have made her give it back anyway:o(...Sloey , I only had that number for a few hrs till Ma Hood bailed me from our towns local grey bar hotel...heck of a party though in that summer of 62'...Tough to pick a best jockett from our era...they were not offered much back then...Was Christy Brinkley a Cougar? Ill pick her anyway..;o).Later Cougs
The only one I can come up with is "Hooker"=Danny T. Course, I remember him as more of a "Gremmy" than a surfer.
Mine was chrome plated with red eye sockets. I got it at "Mister Morty's House of Gag Gifts and Whoopie Cushion Boutique" on 147th just west of Hawthorne Bl. Anyway that's probably not the exact name of the place but he sold things like brass knuckles, switch blades, you know the place don't you?
Mr. Morty was all out of the ring that I wanted. It was chrome with a square piece of brass on top. They were on back order from Tijuana or some place, so he talks me into this other little beauty. This little beauty also weighed at least 3 pounds, but it was all Chrome with a "Skull and Crossbones" right dead in the center, and the eye holes in the skull were painted RED. Mister Morty told me the price, but I told him I only had 75 cents. He said I could pay him the rest later......... I never went back.
Thanks Robin

Message: Hi Judy . . . Teardrop trailers; now there is something I haven't thought about is some time! I remember going on several vacations with my parents hauling along one of those little jewels! Whoever thought up the idea must have been a genius as everything you needed was right there in one little package (except for a bathroom, of course). They were quite popular for years until the bigger travel trailers and motorhomes came along. In fact, Dave Fairchild ('63) and I rented one of those things a couple years after graduating and toured northern California and I'm sure we must have said; "it doesn't get any better than this!" Thanks for the memory.

Message: Have a pleasent and safe 4th weekend to all. Seems like a good time to link back up after a few months off in the ole state of VT. Moving back to So Cal in October and look forward to reconnecting. Living in Bennington, VT (est. 1749) really puts things like stress in perspective. John, the site really looks great as usual and miss being in touch. Best to (ladies first) Geri, Nancy, Linda (Nancys' sister), Rhonda, Rose and then "the duck", Paul, Lynn, Paul Smith, Ernie, Bear, and the rest. John, thanks again for our talks at Christmas. Fill me in on the Cruise, I'll be in town from 7/28 to 8/4. Maybe the Big 100 will hit around then & I'll be lucky enough to join. John, how about a burger at Chips. Our dads loved that place.
Hey Dickie, Wassappnn'?? Just because you're in VT doesn't mean you can't check in. We've got Cougs in Australia that check in. Anyway, glad you're back. The Fosters cruise night looks to be either the 17th or the 24th of July. Try and be there.

Message: Sorry for the delay and getting back too you folks... The All American Gold review was GREAT. Bobby Vee, our own Chris "Zeke" Montez, Johnny Preston, The Angels, and Brian Hyland and the Vees. All the music was great to hear live once again... Had we known there was a pre-show show pool side, we would have been there, however we learned about the show, on our way to the show. If that makes any sense. We tried to get a message to Chris via a security guard at one of the stage doors, but I don't think he got the note. I hope the producers repeat the show at a future date. It's great fun. Funny thing... all those folks seemed to be older now.
