Message: Happy 4th of July, my dear friend, John. I am still here at Tonya's, partying like only Tonya and I can do. Thank you soooo much for the all the personal attention, and all the curb service while I was here. I still think all the Cougars could have written like crazy to fill that feedback page, so I could have gone to Fosters for ice cream while I was in town. But, OH WELL! Thanks John, for taking me, all by myself (even if you didn't buy me an ice cream.) My John and I are on our way home tomorrow morning, and I will email you when we are home. I love you, you know that. Talk to you soon, Cheryl
Cheryl girl, I'm gonna miss you, I had a great time this week and I'll be up to see you guys a little later in the year. Be careful going home and I'll talk to you then. I love you too girl and be a Coug.

Message: There was a liquor store across the street from the Irish Den and next to that was Groves Market and next to that was the greatest little variety/dime store that ever was. They had everything from penny candy to those great big 3 lb. skull rings that were popular in the early fifties. When a girl was going steady she would wear her boyfriend's gigantic skull ring around her neck on a chain. We thought those things were so cool? They would turn your finger green clear up to the elbow. We would buff them in metal shop, until they were like a mirror, then put on a clear-coat and wear them with an inch of tape wrapped around. Bob
I still have the one I gave Nancy Brooks in the 6th grade......that love affair only lasted about a week. I was crushed, but she still walks a little stoop shouldered because of that ring.

Message: Happy 4th of July to all!! Had a great time Friday night at the Beach Boys Concert! John, Thanks for the pictures and the Cougar. We did enlarge it and put several on 2 posters along with "Go Cougars," I had my kids walk up to the front of the stage with me. When we held them up you could see Mike Love kinda grin and point them out to the rest of the band! It was fun. Thanks again.
Kathy, Glad I could help and glad too, that you had a great time. Now if we could just get Frank to check in from the Chris Montez show in Las Vegas.

Message: I almost forgot to include Gladys as a Irish Den owner. Probably owned it as long as anyone. While on the subject of neighborhood pubs we can't exclude the "Tailspin" with the back half of an airplane sticking out of the roof. One night about 1966 sombody(s) unbolted the 12 foot plastic chicken from the dairy next door and placed in the eastbound lane of Imperial Hwy. Would you know anything about that John B. since you were in the area about then???
Boy did I have EGG on my face....

Message: Jack O'Brien owned the Den until it was sold to Jack Gray. One St. Patrick day he had a little to much Coors and went next door, got a gallon of green paint and a 4" brush and proceeded to paint the line down Inglewood Avenue. He made it almost to Bitsys Lounge before he was stopped. After Jack Grey the Den was owned by Paul Edholm, myself for a short time and then Peggy Ledsma who owned it till it closed. Handy for me as I lived next door in the 70's.---The Block & Tackle was owned by Tom Wadmann who married Martha Brock (an Inglewood High cheerleader). Lots of neat fish tanks in that pub.

Message: To Shanda Campos: Your mom graduated with my sister Cynthia, I think. About Clayton, yes I saw him about one month ago and he's fine. He has one of the sharpest minds I've ever experienced. He remembers everybody and wants to know everything about his former students. He finally got a computer and is learning to use it. I'm sure that he'll sign on when he figures it all out. I can't give you his phone number without his permission. I'll ask him when I speak with him next. He lives in Utah with his daughter Crista. I think she's completing work on her masters degree. His son, Chris is in Michigan with his wife, daughter(3yrs) and his newborn son. Chris is working on his doctorate. Clayton has been spending a lot of time working on photography, drawing, and traveling the far east. As usual, he is very involved in reading about politics and world news. I have known him since 1959 and he has been my mentor and very, very good friend. He and Mr. Orrell taught me to teach. Clayton taught me more about art and teaching than any other teacher I've ever had. I had only one teacher in college that was also very good. But Clayton helped me find my soul and taught me how to show my students how to find theirs. He taught me the importance of integrity, morals and character and never to forget them when I stand before my students. If you got from him what I did then you are a very rich person for having known him. This is starting to sound like a tribute and it probably is, but save for my parents he was the greatest influence in my life. I hope that this answers your question. If you want to know more, let me know.
So Ricki, Don't hold back.....What do you REALLY think of Mr Williams??

Message: JB: two establisments that I have not seen mentioned in the feedback pages and those are the "Block and Tackle" on Inglewood Avenue and "The Brothers II", off Hawthorne Blvd and Torrance Blvd? Many a night was spent at these two watering holes - the Brothers for the live music and dancing and the Block just to hoist a few with so many friends. Living across the street from the Block made it quite easy to stumble, I mean walk home, after closing time! Many a brew was hoisted with the likes of Larry Porter, Danny Trepanier, Jimbo Schlettler, Terry Mason, Norm Steiner and, of course, my brother Kenny and many of his friends - to mention a few: Howard Duran, Pat Desmore, Franz Russell and Bobby Bausman (who had a pretty cool Porsche back in 1968). Ahhh, the memories - good to the last drop! To all who frequented these two establishments, a toast to you this 4th of July!!
Hey Jan, You left out Ronny "The Indian" Edie. Speaking of Danny Trepanier, I just had a request for his whereabouts. Do you know where he is?? I know the Indian is living in Florida, but don't have an address on him. I worked at the Flying A station right next to the B&T BEFORE it was the B&T. I think 1962/63. Thanks for the memories Jan. Next week, "The Irish Den"

All the comments from my "home" den parents that were den leaders at camp last year said camp was much more relaxing this year. I think the campus and the shorter hours helped too. I bet you will appreciate your free time for months to come. Holy Cow! Kim Bueltel! Where have you been and where are you??? You have been the subject of conversation every now and then for years. I think of our HHS days and what great fun we had playing volleyball together. Very good memories. Did I mention it's a Kenworth? They also have Rolaids in Ralphs. If your car is still there when you return you could even do some shopping. At least my car is not a Dodge and I didn't make four touchdowns in one game. (Been watching to many re-runs). If Conrad Banks is reading Feedback I'm going to blackmail you with some 1040's pictures. OK Conrad?
That's funny.....ah the "even do some shopping" part, not the Dodge part. I guess I'll have to bring the 51 pickup if you guys don't like the mighty Dodge.

Friday of the month Cougartown funnies limited to true life experiences from high school. More than fair. And the next one will be July 30, 1999. Get your funnies together. And John you did not answer my question regarding the pages? Happy 4th again to all, and the last thing I am sure glad I am not Momma V, not only because of all the problems those V girls can cause (Patty did you really have purple butt) but I would hate to have to choose between you and Robin. Tough choice. And JOCK TUESDAY, let us discuss the best female athletes. Come on girls we are all cougars so we can all share the topics. First in Ten do it again, I figured it out. Free throws made by Shaquille O'Neal!
SLOEY
Jimmie (Johnny Cochran--If the Feedback page is LONG, then there's sumpthin' wrong!!!) Sloey,
I guess you mean about the length of a page. Now see, a Webpage and an 8 1/2 X 11 piece of paper are totally different. The Feedback pages vary in size, but I try to keep them at about 25 to 30 KB in length. When the pages get to be about 40KB in length, I split them. Some are a little longer than others, but not by much.
It looks like Fosters night is going to be either the 17th or the 24th, for the people that like to plan ahead.
