Message: Cougar "sighting" kinda sorta - a couple of months ago some HHS people left a "hello" at our little local store - they asked if a Lillian Parra lived here; she doesn't know us but we know her from the FEEDBACK page and to please say hello for them - they didn't leave any names - I thought that was pretty darn neat:-)
Hey Lillian, well that might be stretching the Cougar SIGHTING a bit but we'll count it, and thanks to whoever left the message...

Message: Hi everyone! The Multi-Class Reunion for the classes of 68-74 planned for September 30th is generating several emails asking who is coming, and where to stay. The event will be at the old Red Onion location in Redondo Beach, now called The Harbor Drive Lounge. This location has not had a reunion of this size before, so we are hammering out the final food menu and other details. As I have posted before, the committee is doing everything for this event themselves, rather that using a reunion company in an effort to keep the costs down. The ticket prices will increase as we get closer to the event. Space is limited at this venue and there will be no tickets sold at the door. Please get your tickets early! I plan to create a "Who's Coming page in the next few weeks. There are three Hotels close to The Harbor Drive Lounge, and they are all linked to from the "On Line Mailer" page on our site--multiclassreunion.net More updates to follow----Carl

Message: Bruce George e-mailed me today and reminded me of the time Terry Trefz and I put a 327 engine in his 55 Chevy for him. (Bruce wasn't very mechanically inclined.) Anyway Terry said lets put a bunch of parts in a box and tell Bruce we had them left over and didn't know where the went. Bruce just about had a heart attack.
The ol' "put the extra parts in a box" trick. It works every time. Thanks Jim....

Message: John, I lived on Eucalyptus between El Segundo and Broadway. there was a house on the corner on Broadway and Eucalyptus that had a large sinkhole in the back yard. My dad told us kids that it was a old unused cess pool that had not been filled in properly. Lots of older homes in Hawthorne were on septic tanks until mains were put in. carole
Hi Carole, Thanks, and to all others on this subject, we have it established that sink holes were in Hawthorne and were cesspools, outhouse holes, or caved in septic tank systems of some sort. Not only is this the big topic on the feedback page, but I've received several emails on what a cesspool is/was and how sink holes came from them. Thank God for the Hawthorne Sewer Line and the Hyperion Plant.

Message: Regarding those holes showing up in backyards, I have lived for over 35 years on 118th Place east of Prairie, they are called "cesspools", a sink hole used for waste materials. Ours caved in 2 or 3 times when we were kids, had to have it re-capped and filled in with new dirt. These were used many, many years ago.

Message: Hi John, I don't want to use CT Feedback for posting, but a reminder that the Hawthorne PD K-9 Bar-B-Que is this Thursday May 18th at the Memorial Center. These fine K-9's certainly have a Hawthorne history and I know that one or two of these four-legged officers have made the trip to HHS in the wee hours of the night, so they certainly have their ties to Cougartown. Thanks.
Yep, I guess they do. Thanks Norma Jean....

Message: That's OK, Ray. I was looking up and didn't see your plane either. And John. Are you implying that my house is on wheels? I may live in the sticks but rest assured, my house is firmly grounded. Just 'cause I happen to have a couple of Bloodhounds laying around, don't mean I'm related to Leroy.
No, Alan, I wasn't implying your house was on wheels. Unless you call a camper in the back of a 47 Studebaker pickup......"On WHEELS"

Message: Just read some of the "feedback" and it brought back a lot of memories. Mike (Shay) I guess I probably was pretty annoying, but that 58 was fast. Really loved that car... Terry Trefz has some great stories about it. Right now I have a Outlaw 41 Willys with a 470 HP 502. Way too fast and a very short wheel base.
Hey Jim, I remember your Black 58 Chevy. Thanks for checking in and letting all your friends know you're out there. Add yourself to our list too and come on back anytime.

Message: Just a quick note: The land at my Uncle Phil's house (at 5400 W. 118th St.-Isis & 118th) also began to develop 'sink holes' in the backyard, in the 1990's. Seems like this may indeed be affecting a large part of the Hawthorne area-and beyond. I really wonder what is causing this to happen. Perhaps a Coug who is well versed in Hawthorne's history can tell us something. BTW, Phil's dad-my grandad-also worked at North American. His name was William 'Red' Jones. Mike

Message: Speaking of old addresses, before we moved to 129th St., I lived in Lennox. The house I lived in (Condon Ave.) is now under the new fwy. I wonder if anyone found the time capsule we buried there in the yard? It was made out of acrylic and it was probably 1961? My dad worked at North American and he made the special box for us. Does anyone else @ Cougartown remember burying time capsules? John- keep up the good work. Thanks.
Thanks Kathy...
