Message: Larry Biller - Bravo , & I agree- I heard Eric Clapton sing that tune on stage with Brian on keyboard during his tribute to Q. E. from the Royal Grounds at the castle. It was broadcast on a PBS special on TV. When Eric sang it, he gave it a very haunting feeling which Carl also was going for, it is very melancholy and etheral. It has a timeless quality -

Message: All right all you golfers out there! I just got an email from George Hunter, class of 74 letting me know that he's in with a 1974 foursome who will be fearsome! (Or just darn funny....) Seems he, Randy Leonard, Art Hernandez and Jim Magdaleno will represent us - Bud, get their money quick! I hope somebody is taking pix at this little soiree. Make them digital and we'll get them posted. Sister Sharon, Mom and I also went down to the OC last week and visited with the Effler parents, Frank and Aleen and never stopped laughing. Sure do love those two. It's something I'd recommend to everyone out there. Go check in and spend some time with some parents you knew growing up. The stories about antics and exploits get better with time and it's a great feeling to be loved right back. Ahhhh, nostalgia.....Geno, Mike and Skip come from very good stock.
Also, the May 15th deadline for having your fees in for the Golf Tournament is rapidly approaching. Please do not miss out.

Message: Watched the Brian Wilson tribute DVD yesterday, recorded at Radio City Music Hall in 2001. I was not very familiar with the song "In The Warmth Of The Sun". After hearing it on this DVD (sung by Vince Gill) it could possibly become my favorite B.B. song. In My Room has always been my favorite.
IMHO, Warmth of the Sun is Carl Wilson's greatest work.

She saw Fabian, Bobby Vee, Brian Hyland, Chiffons, annnnnnd, Chris Montez (Zeke Montenez) from HHS. The group will be there until November. Message: Hey John I was wondering, if we were all paid up here and current how many stars should we have? I looked and I have 6 stars, some people have 9 stars. I know I'm a little slow in the math dept. but shouldn't we all have 9 stars if we've been here from the very beginning? And if that is correct I owe you $30.00 right?
Hey Sheree, If you've been here since we started dues in June of 1999, a dues payment in that year would've paid for the year 1999. An 8 star is paid through this year. 9's are paid through next year. Hope that's not confusing anyone, and thanks for asking.

Message: I had no trouble at all getting my info onto the information system. I do appreciate the tip for hotmail users to check the trashbin as that was where my e-mail ended up!! I do not check into Ctown on a regular basis but am always happy when the screen pops up and the alma mater starts playing. That in itself brings back and keeps the memories of HHS alive. This week my daughter will head to the DMV to get her driving permit! Anyone remember those days and how you couldn't wait to go to school the next day and tell everyone?? John thanks for all you do to keep those memories alive and allowing us to share with others. Keep up the hard work.
Thanks Miaaka, and thanks for the tip for the Hotmailers. So Look In Your Trash Files as lots of these "signin" (Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL, etc.) emailers ARE aggressive.

Message: I was a Navy Corpsman and my active duty was spent in and out of medical training in San Diego, California. I was a reservist and never made a duty station. I was discharged in April, 1964 and drafted into the army in June 1964.
I was told I needed to get my personal life in order and bring clean underwear, shaving gear and if I had prior service to bring my discharge papers etc.
Now picture this, an Army Sergeant yelling attention, dress right dress and all the Army stuff he can muster up to get your attention. His cap sits firmly on his head, with the bill of his cap just above his eyes and he has to tilt his head up so he can see you.
He notices a large manila envelope that I am carrying with my personal items and asks; ?Is that proof of prior Service?? as he snatches it from my grip.
After he looks at the papers inside he hands them back to me. He steps back, snaps to attention, salutes me and says; ?Your country thanks you for your prior service and you are dismissed from any further service.? and he added; ?Have a nice life soldier, now go home.?
As I turned to leave he yelled at his recruits; ?Now there goes a man.? pointing at me. I figured it was a slow day at ?Cougartown? and as a Hawthorne resident, you might want to learn about the early life of one such resident. The Navy is where I received my high school education, but I still call myself a Lawndale High graduate from the class of 1963.
My wife read your venting speech about the new ?Alumni Information? and she saw where you average about $40.00 a month for all the work you do for all the Hawthorne High ?Alumni? and for all alumni where ever they went to school during the 60?s, 70?s, 80?s or 90?s. she asked me what kind of dues you received and I told her you didn?t ask for anything, but a suggested $10.00 a year would be appreciated. Cindy told me you should ask for a mandatory $40.00 a year for all the work you do. Like three postings a day, plus all the comments you add with each post. I?m rambling, what I?m trying to get at is, she went out and sent you a money order (in my name) which amounts to about an .80cent a month raise. Rock on buddy
Well thank you sir, may I have another? Thank you Pat and Cindy. Coming from a Lawndale Grad that IS something. Actually I have received dues from other school grads in the area, and it is totally appreciated. I do appreciate all the dues from our Ctown Members too, but Hawthorne was my home and that's where my allegiance lies, dues or not. All that said, Cougartown dues are not mandatory and will never be mandatory, as long as I'm here. I just love all the HHS and Hawthorne talk.
We all came from the same piece of real estate - Hawthorne, CA - and that's what keeps us together. Thanks again Pat and Cindy for your generous contribution to Cougartown.

Message: Hi Ray ~ I didn't make it to the 20th reunion, I wanted to, but it just wasn't possible at the time. I have been checking the reunion page here on Cougartown regularly to see if there are any updates on the class of '81 reunion that is being planned. My sister and I are planning a trip to CA in the summer and we thought we might try to 'crash' that one if possible. It would be nice to catch up with some of those people I knew back then.

Message: In reference too Neil?s question about dodge ball at HHS. I don?t remember playing dodge ball in high school but it was one of the main recess activities at Trinity Lutheran just down the street from Hawthorne High School. If after playing dodge ball you didn?t have a fat lip or a black eye, you just weren?t playing it right. Oh yes, Daria (Sanders) Nickel, your senior picture is ?HOT?.

Message: As a reunion contact person let me add my .02...The way things have worked in the past is that when people have signed on to the alumni list John would send me an email and I would copy it to my reunion file. That worked pretty well until my computer crashed and I lost several contacts as I admit I'm not the best at backing up my system. With everyone listing themselves on the info page reunion committees don't have to worry about lists getting flooded out in hurricanes, computers crashing, storage sheds being raided by ex-spouses or my personal favorite...dogs eating reunion contact lists. They simply work in the 21st Century and log on to Cougartown~~~could life get any simpler??
I think not....although Cougartown's server is in Chicago and if the wind blows the Sears Tower over and it comes crashing down on the server, it's back to square one.
Actually the biggest thing now is keeping the reunion committees updated. Say your Reunion is in August and people are continually adding to our list, I'm going to have to figure a way to make sure their info gets to their Reunion Committee as they come in here. No hill for a climber. Thanks Laura

Message: Just a suggestion, when you post your info on the Frappr Cougartown map, how about putting your grad year in the information so we know what class you were in. Hey John, saw where you posted that you had lived on the corner of Burl and 111th St at one time. I lived on Burl also, about halfway between Lennox Blvd and 111th st, but long before you. I moved away in 1947. Lennox Hi wasn't built yet, it is located on a field where I played as a youngster.
Yep, Joyce and I lived there after we got married, from about 63 to 70. Great neighborhood then.

Message: Trivial question - regarding "PE" -There was a type of dodge ball which I was witness to only two times during my quadra at HHS - I think it was during a rain season - no outside play- Can anyone please fill in the blanks here? It was all the boys class during one period so we are talking at least 200 dudes- The idea was to leave one man standing ...It was harsh! Can anyone give me the "Offical" name for this fiasco?
I am thinking like... Killer Ball , or fatal dodge ball , Or Terminal Ball?
We played something called Jungle Ball, I think
