Got to pack, the womans on my back, but Pacos Pics take all.Good stuff, Kind a reminds me of an old poker game. 2's,4's,10's, one eyed Jacks, Man with the Ax wins, but...natural 7's take all. This is a 7-Stud game that happened when we were back in the 60's , or maybe later. I guess it came to quarters or Bulls Eyes at some pub in MB for pitchers of beer. Mickey Wood , Doug Frohoff, Skip beal, Ray lyons most of em remember when. Mick just remembers the parking tickets. Had a Bekins box full. I do think he had to pay the , not polictically correct to say "the Man" ,I guess it would be a "person" at this point in our lives. But he has perservered. Stilll get a chuckle every now and then from Mr Dry sense of humor. And he lives a tranqil life up in the good country. But hasn't invited us for some reason. Jude is it that dang perfume? No perfume in offices. The Homophobes or the others take an offense, or maybe it's a brick wall. OOOhhhhwwweee. To take it back to now, March Madness...UCLA...UCLA...UCLA...Fight, Fight, Fight! Message: First of all, John, "the check's in the mail" for my membership.
And while its been a while since "that weekend" in October, I want to thank all the Cougars who supported me with my 3Day Breast Cancer Walk. I did it, but I must admit, not happily. These mountain trail feet aren't used to concrete and 60 miles in three days on the dreadful stuff is enough to make me want to be part of the 3 Day Volunteer Crew instead!
It was a life changing event - one I will never forget. Being picked as one of the four women to represent all survivors in "The Circle of Survivors" at the opening and closing ceremonies was quite a honor. Why I was chosen to lead the 3 other survivors off the stage and lead the walk out the arena is still beyond belief, especially when I saw and met with other survivors who suffered much more than I did with breast cancer. If anything, I am a poster child for early detection - so Cougar ladies, stay up on your mammograms and even if you don't have a family history of breast cancer, remember that it always starts somewhere.
Time to get off my soap box, and again, thanks for all your support and John, thanks for the teeshirts. I wore them proudly and continue to wear them as I trek on much more reasonable soil.
To all of you, my heartfelt thanks!
Roberta Moore
Thank you Roberta for the Cancer Walk story. I thought it was a little funny though that the walk was in October and you're just now telling your story. Did you just cross the finish line? Thanks again....

Hey Bill, My dad had the exact opposite reaction..."Let's go to Gardena Speedway and see the races".

Message: O.K., does anyone else remember dress codes. We guys seem to have gotten away with just about anything (as long as we didn?t go too far with it), but I seem to remember the girls having to kneel and if the hem of the shirt (no pants for them back in ?64 and before) had to touch the ground or else. My post isn?t so much about that, but about a memory about my junior or senior (?63 or ?64) year. Anyone else out there among you vintage Cougars remember ?Grub Day.? Someone (or several someones) at dear old HHS decided they were tired of the existing dress code. Word spread and the next day about half of the class or several classes showed up in what the administration considered inappropriate attire. Needless to say, about half the class (I think there were 465 of us in the class of 1964) were sent home. It was, I think a Friday, so the ones who left probably celebrated, while the rest of us probably trembled in fear that the dominoes would fall on us as well. The following year the dress code was relaxed and it was a downhill slide from there. I can?t believe what some of the kids wear to school now. Does that make me an oldster or what?
Hey Glenn, yes it does. Thanks for the memory flogger as I'm sure a few still remember Grub Day.
BTW, tell Dave I need the April in Carneros info.

Message: Does anyone remember Jim Dandy Market on Hawthorne Blvd. in Lennox? I remember one night my parents, my brother Leo('64), sister Cynthia('66) and I walked from our house there late one Saturday night. I was probably about 10 years old and it seemed as though we'd never get there. Our car had broken down and we needed groceries. It was the only store open close enough for walking, about one mile. I think that we kids were taken to help out with carrying bags home. I can't imagine walking anywhere, after dark, safe enough to do that now.
I've learned that here in the foothills of Tucson that there are more than human critters to about which to worry. Javelinas have come around to visit us. They are the boars of the desert. We've got scorpions, tarantulas and snakes to name a few.
I love all of the reminiscing many of you have written about. Cindy, you are incredible. Keith, I feel as though I know you. What a full life you've lead. John, you have contributed so much to us all. There are so many of you that I should mention...but just know that you are all appreciated. Tucson seems so far away from friends and family and this site brings me back home everyday. Judy, I wish your dad well. I remember you as a fine artist at HHS.
Thank you Ricki, Your presence is missed very much but it's so nice to know you're still with the group. I received a letter from a class of 77 person today. She also misses her roots, living back east, but says she's not as homesick with Cougartown and us nearby. It does mean so much to lots of displaced Cougars.
On the Jim Dandy issue, I remember the name but don't remember where it was. I'm sure someone can help.

Message: Wow Brooks Hardware there is a name I haven't heard in a longtime. I loved going in there with my dad. I remember they all knew my dad and they would talk forever. They sponsored my Little League team in Wiseburn called the Phillies that my dad coached too. They had all the pictures of the teams they sponsored. Remember back then when all you got was a shirt with the sponsors name on the back. You wore you own jeans and tennis shoes (Converse All Stars of course). Man I had the biggest holes in my knees in my jeans.

Message: One of my favorite places to spend my allowance on was Aloha Drugs. The candy counter just seemed to go on forever! My sister Sam & I would walk from 126th street, cross the railroad tracks behind Jiffy lube to get to Aloha Drugs. As I got older, I became fond of Mr. Ferguson, the pharmacist, he was always so nice and seemed to enjoy talking to the kids. As for my influences and hero's, besides my own Mom and Dad, it would be none other than Konnie Krislock. Besides teaching who, what, where & when, she taught me that if I believe in myself, that others will too.

Message: Anna Marie's Gift and Hobby originally started out as a children?s clothing store in about 1929. Anna Marie closed her doors in 1968. Most remember her as a grumpy old lady who thought that everyone was out to steal something from her. She was not! She was just cautious. She lived above the store for as along as I can remember. A great card player. A wonderful influence in my life. I had the opportunity to work for her one summer. One of the other wonderful families that owned a store across from Anna Marie?s was the Brooks family. John B, what year did their children graduate from HHS? I also had the opportunity to work for Mr. and Mrs. Brooks one summer. Another influence in my life. John Brooks had a very interesting story on how he got started in the Hardware business. Where did all of the ?Mom and Pop? stores go? I miss them.
Nancy (Cheryl) Brooks was the class of 62. Her older brother, Larry, I'm not sure. Yes. the Mom and Pop's were plentiful when I was growing up. I believe Super Markets and Home Improvement Stores of the world were their demise. Thanks Bob....

I think that may be what you're thinking of because it had slot car and hobby stuff in the back, too. The part I liked best was in the front - the candy section! Growing up, I spent a lot of my allowance money at Anna Marie's.

Message: Good news class of 81, Scott Maples and I have emailed and we are starting to plan the 25 year reunion. Keith, I missed all the hoopla about you but I must say you look the same as you did in high school. Well maybe the hair style is a little different now. Hawaii must agree with you. Don't worry about not having the stud muffin body anymore. We all change, we may look better than some or worse than others but it really doesn't matter so long as you are happy with yourself. Also, Bevan Feist will you be at cruise night? I knew you and Billy (he was in my class). Tell Billy hi if he remembers me. Why can't more people from the 80's make it to these cruise nights?
Hey Lori, Glad you're still with us and see you and Mario there on the 25th.
