They are also bulldozing everything up to and including where House of Raymonds use to be, so who knows how big it will be. It's just what we need...another parts store.

"duz i git it?"
I assume he means; does he get the cheeseburger, fries and ice cream. Since he is the only "person" that has ventured a hint or guess I will wait ?till this next Friday 25 June 1999 to certify that he deserves the prize. (Maybe we can just get him certified...) If no one has figured the question, "Let's see if he rides in early on Friday, stayed all day, stayed the next day, stayed all day the next day and leaves early the next day it would be Wednesday." How come it is Wednesday?
I?ll give you some hints.
1.) The horse?s name doesn?t matter.
2.) The same thing could happen if you went on a Holiday on Friday and returned 3 days later.
3.) You have a better chance of seeing Wednesday when reading Cougartown than a newspaper.

Message: Hey Patty how goes the working trip with sis, but for the Butt jokes! As for the Butt Page... Well, John is just keeping cougartown from being butt out of web page humor awards, don't you know!!! When Gloria calls you Mom... Smile, and ask in a loud voice if she took her medication... That may slow her down a little. Very often when I introduce Maria I explain that plastic surgery is a wonderful tool today.... That brings a fair amount of heat back my way, BUT I'm not worried. Ricki... don't get to upset about ABC, A&E or any of the media. What is important in any of these stories is getting a solid relationship with the producers and even then you can't be sure what will hit the air. Brian Ross (ABC Primetime) and his producer Rhonda did a wonderful job a couple of years ago on a project I was involved with, and the producers at A&E that I worked with on City Confidential presented the story very well. I quess its all a matter of what we expect to see and hear... more so when we're in the project. When you break it all down... Everyone at HHS that knew the Beach Boys as the individuals that they were... or only their music has to be very proud of what they have accomplished... So! Bottom line... Don't sweat the small stuff.

Message: I found the BW video on Biography.Com and ordered it. It's back ordered for 4 to 6 weeks. From the sound of the feedback about the program, Brian and the BB's were exploited by the media. Sensationalism and exageration are usually associated with popular people, so I'm still not surprised that Olivia Arias Harrison has asked her friends and acquaintances not to talk about her to the media. I know this is an old subject (page 18, I believe), but it is important for us to understand that anything can be misconstrued and sensationalized by "journalism". It's sad that this happens.
Also sad is the destruction of Holly's. Just when the 50's type restaurant is popular again, they let someone take a landmark that is a true 50's eatery. I don't understand the logic in that one! Of all the old buildings and dives on Hawthorne Blvd. that could've been torn down, they take the one that meant so much to everyone. Does anyone know what will go in it's place? JB, do you have any pictures, before the bull dozer, of Holly's?
Enough sad stuff, I'm goin' fishin'. Hope to catch that big catfish for you JB.
Thanks Karen, Yes I do have a picture of Hollys/Hawthorne Grill. I will have to find it though. OH....and if you do catch that catfish. Please do not send it UPS ground.

I was going to purchase the video but after hearing the feedback, I won't purchase the video to show my respect for the memory of Brian. I now have more respect for an alumna that asked everyone not to give to any information about her to any media. I have had some experience with the press while working with a disaster relief organization. The organization told us to never talk to the media. Maybe I was naïve, after seeing one reporter stick a mike into the face of a family member who lost most of his family and saying something to the effect "How does it feel to lose your family in a single disaster?" I just thought that it was one journalist. I guess I was wrong.

Message: The destruction of Holly's really put a knot in my throat. What are those people thinking? What do they value?
I did see the BW special and I felt very sad about what happened to him. I read his book when it came out so I was prepared, but I guess watching it is somehow more heartbreaking. I sat next to Brian in Algebra II for a whole year and I never saw the sad, depressed side of him. He was always funny and entertaining. I know feelings could be hidden and all of the psycho-babble but it seems that he was greatly taken advantage of. "Someone" got rich there. Robin, I knew that you were a good friend of his and I'm sorry if you got used. My husband says that, "A&E is owned by ABC, so what do you expect?" He calls it "ambushed journalism." It makes me sick when it happens to anyone, but when it happens to people I know or knew it makes me sick and very angry. It just goes to show how low the standard of journalism has gone. We quit our subscription to the L.A. Times a long time ago. I only catch news on the radio when I'm driving. How does one know what to believe? Regarding BW, I did enjoy the early movies. I wish it had stopped there.

Message: Hi John...Just finished sending a fax to the producer of the A&E joke and to be honest it wasnt pretty. I had been aware of this project for over a year now and agreed to participate ONLY if they kept the format as they had promised. ie..Late 50s early 60s Hawthorne and a lighter side of my good friend Brian. Well as you saw it was another drawn out "say no to drugs" commercial with more errors than Leeroys S.A.T. test. Because of this I refused to an interview and consequently the film I sent was for the most part left on the cutting room floor...Its too bad because there was film of at least 25 Cougars from classes of 54 to the mid seventies that we all could have enjoyed.I wont labor this venting other than to say that the kind of people I dealt with in the last year or so on this project reinforces the reason our family left that area 30 yrs ago. I guess I could have been one of them but my parents were married....enuff said...Sorry Cougars..Wish I could have helped make it a better story for all of us....Bummer to see Hollys fall too...Some good friday jokes ..Was racing in Washington St. or would have sent a couple..4 now later Cougs...
Robin, On the other hand, we all know the drug part, so no shocker there, but I thought the "home movie" aspect was well worth watching. Just my 2 cents.

But those times are locked away safe from the machines that would take the building away. As for the Brian Wilson A&E program. That's the tough part of doing one of those shows... the producers and editors can really do a number with the final cut.

I have been going through all the feedback that I missed out on for the past week or so and we are really making some progress towards our 100th page!! Wow, it took me nearly 4 hours to get caught up!!! LEEROY is quite a character and I loved his picture and the outhouse. It doesn't look like anything I remember seeing in the Hawthorne area though. Where is Lick Slicker or whatever it was called? Must be a suberb of Hawthorne!
I also noticed alot of you guys are interested in the '57 Chevys. I know of a few that are for sale, so if you're interested, give me an e-mail and I'll tell you more. I always wanted a '58 Impala, turquoise and white with a white interior. I never got one though. I always drove a black, red and white '55 Ford convertible. I loved that car. Maybe some of you remember that one cruising down Hawthorne Blvd. with a bunch of my friends. It was alot of fun with the girls sitting up on the back of the car after football games especially. I also used to take my brother and a bunch of the surfers to the beach in that car with those long boards sticking up out the back. The boys would have to scrunch down on the seat under the boards. I even had a boy or two in the trunk!
Anyway, it's good to be back and I'm really looking forward to getting together with all of you at the 100th page ice cream get-together and/or the homecoming football game. Should be fun!!!
Hope all you DADs had a GREAT Father's Day and I hope you had a special one too, JB. You are the Father of Cougartown and deserve a special day of your own!!
