Message: Okay, how good do you have to be to play in this golf tourney? I can handle an executive course, but not sure about the big ones. Can only drive about 120 yds, so needless to say, I get my money's worth on the longer holes. Not sure if this gal wants to make a HHS fool of herself. LOL, Annette
Hey Annette, you do NOT have to be good. I know because they're begging me to play and I haven't touched a club since 1975, when I launched them into the lake at Western Av.

Message: When I was going to Peter Burnett and Dana I used to wear wing tips. My mom wouldn't buy us taps cause it would catch on the shag carpet and pull it. But what I did is I would take a bunch of thumb tacks and stick them on the bottom of my wing tips. By the end of the day, the flat part would wear off and I would just have this little stubbles. I would pull them out with a pair of needle nose pliers then repeat the next day. I guess I can admit it now. I used to get the tacks from Off Ramp Liquor Store. I would go in and take as many packs as I could at a time.
You know Keith, now don't spread this around cause it might catch on, but if you'd push the tacks through from the inside, you'd have instant GOLF SHOES!!

Message: Neil Larson - Not sure what the story is today but back in 1994 Emmit Rhodes was still living in Hawthorne and had a studio in his house. A couple of friends of mine spent a couple of evenings there with him recording some stuff. I think the house was around 136th and Eucalyptus. He might still be there. I think it was his parent's house originally.

Message: Hey Effler Boys! I'm not a golfer but my husband Mike is, a pretty good one, he says... He's not an HHS grad, but, since we are kissin' cousins anyway, maybe he can be your fourth man... I would love to have him golf at the HHS Tourney (we haven't been able to attend in past years) so if you would accept him as an honorary Cougar I will start working on him to golf. Hey, how hard can it be to tell a man he HAS to go golfing????

Message: AM I mistaken or wasn't the Kenneth Chevy location once the home of Prince Valiant, at the corner of 120th & the Lower LA Brea Blvd? I notice a Plethora of early 60's Cougar alumni on feedback recently, it appears the 60'Somethings have time enough now that retirement looms near. PS>>>> We were chatting about musicians last night and an old Emitt Rhodes tune came on the radio, As I recall , Emitt bailed before his official graduation from the Scarlet & Gold because someone in the admin office told him he had to cut his hair!! He hung up Hawthorne and went off and signed with Dunhill Records! He was one of the first solo multi-track artists ..in fact Paul McCartney mentioned something about Emitt as being one of his (Paul's) influences! Has any one seen Emitt in the last decade???
Chaffee Motors and Keefer Chrysler Plymouth were at the 120th location, along with a few others. Kenneth was originally called Suburban Chevrolet.

Message: To all class members of 1966 and 1967. I was going to try to put together the 40 year reunion, but the days are passing by, and I just don't have the resources of time to put this thing together. If someone else would like to do it, that would be great. It would probably be best if you just use a company. Although I don't think they do a very good job, it is the easiest way to go about organizing a reunion. Hope someone jumps in and does this. Sorry.

Message: What year was the bottom picture taken and the top one also? I remember when we moved to Hawthorne from Lompoc, California back in 1955. Mom went down to Kenneth Chevrolet (pictured) and bought a brand new Chevy, a 1955 two door sedan two tone powder blue and white with a six cylinder and automatic trans. I inherited that car in 1960 and the first thing I did to modify it was install vibrasonic on the am radio. While I was in boot camp, mom wrote me and told me my step dad had painted it a solid powder blue, I was so jazzed. When I got out of boot camp I returned home and in the driveway was a nice looking 55 Chevy. But wait something was wrong, when I got close I noticed he did it with a paint brush. I hope I never see another sheet of wet or dry sandpaper.
Thanks Pat...The bottom picture was taken in 1948 or 1949. The top picture was taken last Wednesday.

Message: Hey good to see old friends checking in, Martha Amour I thought you were living up in Las Vegas. Re your X Bob Johnston he was the night-manager at Taco Tio, many nights I would run 2 dozen Tacos or so to Gary Persinger who was the head cook at the A&W on Imperial Hwy. I?m sure you guys remember there were two A&W?s right? Persinger would give me a gallon of root beer plus a dozen hamburgers and I would drop them off at Taco Tio?O I did get a little commission on the deal you understand. I guess that?s why I?m still a trader working between China & the USA. Martha I lost Dave's website if you have it please post it. Thanks

Paco-----Your name dropping of Gary Persinger, Bobby Bausman, Kenny Blomsterberg bring back memories of good times with my brother, David Amour,'60. Dave is well and lives in Mt. Shasta City in Northern California. He is retired and makes guitars and violins. I'll try to get him to check in.

Message: John, question. On the old picture of Hawthorne Blvd. I wonder, on the corner with 2 story bldg., was the upstairs the office of Dr. Tibbs. dentist. I went to him from age 11 to my mid 20's He moved his office south on Hawthorne Blvd., later I think. Did anyone else have him as a dentist. He was a great guy, and his son took over after him. Carole
Hi Carole, Could have been. I know Mr. Schlimmer owned the building and had the hardware store, but he may have rented the upstairs out.

Message: Mr. Jones... I never had the pleasure of driving a Shelby Cobra; however, during my charter flying days in 1981, I had the distinct honor of flying Carroll Shelby to Catalina Island. He was one of the distinguished judges of Catalina's annual chili cook-off. I was unfortunately unable to chat with him, as he spent the entire crossing chatting with another distinguished judge, a young up-and-coming politician from Sacramento by the name of Gray Davis. And now, after that shameless display of name-dropping, I'll get back to work. Aloha.
How about Carroll Shelby for Governor?

But Toni Cook Sweet, Class of 1962, and I who have remained friends since high school re-established ties recently with Linda McVeigh Mathews who is in Washington, D.C. putting together the front page of "USA Today." Kathy Taylor is married to a Historical Preservationist and living in Minnesota; Chris Sidwell Eubanks is in San Diego and Betty Severance Weatherly and Chuck Weatherly are still in business in Hood River, Oregon. Toni and her husband, Don, a retired executive for a major electronics company and my husband, J.J., a retired Los Angeles Police Detective, celebrated our 25th and 30th wedding anniversaries together in Ireland and Italy at the end of last year.
We were wondering if anyone knows the whereabouts of Frank David Rubin or "Moochie?"
